yeah i'm loving the whole new transmission model and especially the lotus, just wish they hadn't took away the limiter as it's not very realistic. i know why they've done it, to stop people flat shifting, and i'm all for it, but a better solution would have been to make the limiter switchable and set at a lower rpm than the safe max, that way people would have had the choice between max engine performance and safe engine.

actually what really peeves me is when i posted about how the real one did have a limiter, a member of the staff posted that they thought it hadn't and weren't able to look for "obscure" information off the net, maybe they should have bothered to ask divina, read mario's autobiography or even just asked the owner of the car they scanned, after all they did put the rev limiter switch in the cockpit model !!!

send a PM to tristran as he runs (or did) an MX5, i've driven a few and if you can put up with the "hairdressers car" jokes they're great fun to drive. Mk1 and Mk3 MR2's are good fun aswell, Mk2 version seemed to forget it was supposed to be a "Midengined Runabout 2 seater" became a seriously fast car and, along with a few handling issues on the first versions of the MK2, lost a lot of the chuckability / fun factor. having said that i've enjoyed myself a lot driving MR2's aswell.

i've got a sort of half way house between the two, fiat x1/9 (the car toyota based the MK1 MR2 on), like the mX5 a "hairdressers car" thats light and fast enough without being so fast you can't extend it without seriously endangering your licence, but at the same time midengined with the balance and response that gives.

oh and if you do go for a MK1 MR2, watch out for rust in box sections etc, that's something else they seemed to copy from the x1/9

to be fair even the guys that look hopeless in F1 are bloody good drivers, i remember watching rupert keegan after he'd spent some time being totally outclassed in a season or so doing grand prix, when he was at oulton park in the british F1 championship . he almost lapped the second place driver after about 14 laps. similarly about 10 years ago a magazine did a feature on the launch of a new italian supercar and how the test driver (who's name the journo hadn't heard properly ) was amazing in the way he judged things whilst driving at a highly illegal speed on pubilc roads, when the journo rechecked the drivers name it was a guy who'd done a couple of (slow) part seasons at the back of the F1 field through pay to drive deals.

Quote from GreyBull [CHA] :Yea, sometimes it clearly was like destruction derby. A good part of the field should realise that quali=/=race, it is simply ridiculous to see at every single race 2 or 3 drivers trying to take the hotlap breaking points in the first lap. Really, I can't recall of any race with no first lap pile-up, except Silverstone perhaps.

lol eurosport reconned that danny sulivan had drawn the short straw being chief steward there, they reconned it would take him to wednesday just to sort out the gp3 runners

from what i read i gathered it was the standard FIA spec center section the row was about not how much the outers are dropping under load as they're tested for flex and have passed.

also red bull could just be running a suspension that colapses easier under load which would explain how in a lot of the pics the wing is lower than any other teams, that would also explain why the redbulls are not so affected by ride height when in qualifying with a low fuel load, in the early 80's when skirts were banned and a minimum ride height was first brought in a lot of the teams got round the reg by running variable rate spring systems so the car was high enough in the pits but the first layer of springing colapsed under the aero load by 60 mph.

other teams were even more clever, williams originally ran a sytem which lowered the suspension when the car was in third or higher till one had a pretty spectacular spin when it jumped out of fifth gear and the suspension raised itself up, brabham were just blatent about it, they fitted a lever in the cockpit to lower the suspension and when asked said it was a handbrake as the car wouldn't roll away when the suspension was dropped so the bodywork edges rubbed the track.

whatever the legality of the order, massa has to take a lot of the blame for getting ferrari in this mess, given he'd already been having trouble on the harder compound judging his braking points, all he needed to do was to make a show of being a little bit ragged after being told alonso was faster before appearing to brake too late at the hairpin, couple of momentary wheel locks to suggest he was struggling and then running onto the nice wide tarmac run off area and loosing the place to alonso.
everyone would have said he'd tried to speed up after getting that message and no one would have pointed the finger. in making it obvious he was gifting alonso the place, massa was making a point that he could have won to satisfy his own ends, though it has resulted in a certain loss of respect back in brasil, if he'd have appeared to have fought and lost, he would have been judged as being poorer than alonso but also as someone who tried to keep alonso behind.

having said that, ferrari could have avoided this just by deciding what to do before the race, when alonso dropped back the BBC suggested it was to save fuel so it would have been far easier / believable for ferrari to instruct massa to switch to a fuel saving program and then alonso powering past , in fact the fuel program wouldn't even have had to exist, to use mclaren's radio as an example if "lewis go to G8 " had actually meant" lewis slow down let jenson past" no one would have known and would have just assumed button had managed his fuel better

what i find really upsetting is not the team orders, as many have said all the teams do it. it's the fact that ferrari did it so blatently and then insult my intellegence by saying they did not. if they feel they've done nothing wrong then be honest, don't treat the fans as idiots.

button and hamilton must be thinking about how the four cars in front all managed to make a mess of battling with their team mates at silverstone , to quote prost from australia 86 " all the drivers in front of me hate each other, i think i will have a quiet first lap"

having said that the two mclarens will probably take each other off on lap 1

nice list but everything in there that i'd want to do, my current phone does ok, so i guess there's no reason for me to get one

pity, i'd have loved to have one but if i can't justify it, especially the bit about paying for the contract and extra for the handset, with a plan thats matches my usage i'm looking at £269 for the phone, that'll go a long way towards a decent graphics card

thats fair enough boris, you've obviously got a need for one but despite being very open towards getting one i'm afraid i just can't justify it for me on any grounds apart from it's "desirability" (oh and +1 about gps but i've got that on my current nokia 5800 and it's more accurate than my fathers tom tom)

maybe it's just me, as i dont really get twitter apart from specific uses such as updates on services etc, i certainly have no desire to know who stephen fry is sitting with, what he's eating or if he's having a shit and i wouldn't expect anyone else to want to know the same about me, similarly facebook, why broadcast every little detail of your private life (and then complain that face book doesn't protect your privacy). if someone wants to get in touch with me by email it can wait till i'm ready to read it, if it's urgent then they can phone me, if they haven't got my number then it's pretty probable i don't want to hear from them, i certainly don't want to waste time clearing adverts etc out of my email box when im away from my pc doing something else

exactly, the more i look the more i see that the iphone and the HTc are both pointless for me, i have no desire to play games on my phone (which is touch screen and responds very nicely ) whilst i go to work as i drive to work, and in break times i prefer to read a decent book, usually complicated historical references which have picutres and diagrams etc which often are missing from their e book equivilent.

what i'm asking is what in people's experience are the most usefull apps for either platform as i'm struggling to convince my self i couldn't spend the money elsewhere and get more from it.

EDIT just had a look at the iphone apps of the week archive and the only app that would be vaguely of use to me is the star maps app and thats only if i managed to completely forget 40 years knowlage of studying constellations etc. and why a shazam app? works perfectly well on any mobile phone just by pressing 4 numbers and the dial key

Quote from Boris Lozac :Well only a couple of 200.000 + applications, nothing else..
You can have pretty much everything that iPhone has for half the price, but you won't have some cool iPhone only applications, the awesome acceloremeter and the best touchscreen experience out there.

ok so what do all these aplications do for me, what are the most usefull apps? is there actually anything i need or are they all just toys to help people justify their phone ? will the "awesome accelerometer and best touch screen experience" do anything for me that my current phone can't do?

ok serious question to both the iphone and anti iphone camps

what exactly do you use your phones for?

i'm not knocking them just wondered what i'd gain as my current phone allows me to make calls, text, take reasonably decent pics and vids, multiple alarms, calander and planner, gps, watch videos, use bbc iplayer, calculator, listen to podcasts and music to a reasonable quality on the speakers and has enough space on the memory card to act as a usefull portable storage medium.

what extra's am im missing out that i'll actually want to use ?

anyone else se that rather strange case of an iphone 4 catching fire due to a faulty USB socket ? despite apple saying it was a fault it sounds rather suspicious to me and more like a user error (faulty mains to USB converter?) having said that there's also been reports of some getting hot when in use and not connected to anything.

personally i think there's a lot of people trying to come up with a fault just because there is this issue about reception and to have their little 5 mins of glory (and possibly a fee for the story). apple probably feel it's easier just to replace things and keep their heads down rather than defend themselves and make the story larger.

as karun and ant said hamilton did too good a job with the spin, if he'd not caught the first slide he'd have just gone round same as everyone else and not hit anything rather than spearing off to the right when it snapped back. i wonder how much difference the blown diffuser made there as i'd assume he'd have lifted when it slid and then lost the extra downforce.

Quote from Töki (HUN) :Meh, subbed for another month yesterday, bought the V8 and Zandvoort. And had a go with skinning, I tell you, it sucks. Can't beat LFS' templates and quality.

+1, haven't actually done any skins yet in iracing just because it's not as slick as lfs' system. i can understand why they won't implement a central database with Us copywrite laws etc but they could have made the templates easier, currently it's very obvious they were originally designed just for the iracing workers to design the insim paint designs and not intended to be used by third parties

given the way certain "stylish" race gear wears you have to ask yourself a question

"do i want to look good in the padock before a fire or do i want to look good anywhere after a fire ?"
