How do you know that there is copper in those fumes? There may be ozone from the electrical discharge, or a coating on the wires that's burning up. And if there is copper, how do you tell if it's only the pure metal (which is non-toxic), or one of the 1000s of chemical compounds that contain copper ions?

If you worry about this, think about touching all those coins that have copper in them. Or <shudder> nickel...

Tell them that you'll spend so much time on LFS that you won't have time to:
- Nag them about buying a games console (plus a bunch of games, each of which cost twice the price of LFS).
- Do booze or drugs (because they're bad for your laptimes).
- Hang out with the wrong kind of friends (because they're NFS fanboys ).

But don't tell them you're also likely to forget doing your homework, cleaning up your room, and spending quality time with mom and dad...

Quote from Mp3 Astra :Now I have a wheel it feels like I'm relearning the entire game as it's so completely different. I can't even control a slide in the XFG!

Try racing a different type of car (single seater, LX, whatever). After a while, go back to the XFG. By then you have (hopefully) forgotten the reflexes that you learnt when you were a mouse driver, and that make you screw up when driving with the wheel.

There are several ways to look at it, depending on what you see as the "benefit" that you should pay for:

1. Benefit = staying in the house for a day
You get the 27 person-days calculation by StewartFisher.

2. Benefit = having 1/nth of the house for yourself
This means that the days when there are 5 people are cheaper, because you share the cost of 1 days rent between the 5 of you (but you also get less "house" for your money). This is what tristancliffe calculated.

If the house can comfortably accommodate 5 people, then I'd say method 1 is fairest. But if the place gets crowded when the whole gang is there, use method 2.

And there is also another method:

3. Haggling
The guy who booked the house tries to extort as much money from his pals as possible. His friends wish him luck staying there on his own, and go to the pub.

These pains seem mysterious to me. If you were 30 or older, I'd say you should read up on ergonomics and adjust your seat, desk and PC position. But your profile says you are 14, and an average 14 y.o. body can take a lot of un-ergonomic (ab)use before it starts to hurt.

That is... unless you have had an injury from sports or from an accident. That may have pushed some bones and joints in a wrong position, causing pain. (Note: It could be an injury in the shoulder region or lower down in your spine. The cause of the pain does not necessarily have to be where you feel it.) In that case, consider a visit to a doctor. Another possible explanation is that your body has had a growth spurt, making it extra sensitive to a wrong working position.

In any case, take the pains seriously. The neck is a delicate piece of machinery. If the muscles in the neck go haywire, you can get terrible headaches.

If you plan to buy a wheel, then do it sooner rather than later, because if you have been a mouse driver for some time you will need to re-learn some of your skills when you get a wheel. (And you will need to get different setups, too.)

Jakg has written a good guide to buying a wheel.

Quote from Chrisuu01 :Driver B to me is just the bigest idiot on earth

If he is, he's got some tough competition. A while ago I watched some races of UFR @ AS Cadet (a public server, I think it was ConeDodgers)... Idiots galore.

@ MP3 Astra: Is it possible to get the chat log as scrolling text, instead of having it read to us? I find it a bit hard to follow.

Quote from El_TaxMaN :One suggestion... It is possible to add translations in new versions?

At the moment LRA does not support translations. I haven't really considered it so far because I live in the Netherlands, where everybody has a fairly good command of English. In other countries it is different, I know.

I'll see what i can do.

Just checked, and it's a replay from patch X31. (It was FBM at SO6, so I assumed it would be compatible.) Not compatible with patch Y, apparently.

Sorry, false alarm.
Replay OOS error [solved - old version]

This may be a known error, but the test patch forum is closed now, so I can't check. This replay from the Inferno site gives me an OOS error after 2 seconds in the replay.

B is to blame because it's B's fault 6 times out of 8.
MP3 Astra, how do you choose which car to name A and which one B? Is A the one who's in front when the incident begins?

BTW, I like the new intro and REM as music choice.

Quote from Shotglass :honest oppinion ? the day the devs decide to go down that slippery slope of in game adds and selling emails ill abandon the game and feel ashamed for all the times i recommended this sim to anyone

Quote from Stefani24 :i have a spam folder anyway, and id like to drive south city.

There is the catch. If Scavier decides to sell ads, the ad companies will require guarantees that the ads are not only downloaded, but also seen. Some guys may build tools to circumvent the ads (e.g. by replacing them with a blank jpg on-the-fly). Scawen will need to program countermeasures. And that means less time to develop features for the legitimate users.

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :I think driver B has a bad attitude and a messed up idea of what an overlap is, however he did get fully alongside on the next turn.

I agree on the first two things, but not on the third. B only got overlap in the second turn because he tapped A in the first turn. It's possible that he wasn't aware of the tap (because of lag), but even then he shouldn't have attempted a pass there. He was just barging his way through.

Quote from St4Lk3R :I doubt that any of these demo drivers will find out soon that they can actually buy the game and the XRT is magically back again.

I'm sure they know. My guess is that to them the word "Demo" doesn't mean "trial version without any warranty" but something like "fully functional version with less content that you get for free". And now that some of the demo content has been taken out, they come complaining in their role of dissatisfied customers.

Scavier could offer to give them their money back, of course...

Right now the idea is tempting, because there are so many threads from demo users, moaning about "rights" taken away. Most of them haven't posted here before.

But before patch Y, demo users on the forum were usually posting sensible and/or nice stuff, just like licensed users. After all the hubbub has calmed down, the freeloaders have left and the other demo users will still be here, contributing to the community.

Quote from chrisfromda909 :Definitely will not be buying this game ever now. Ill stick to networking on Patch V.

Wait!! Wait! Wouldn't that be too rash a decision? After all, you took 2 years to evaluate the previous releases, perhaps you need some more time to think this over? Try it out for another year or so, then decide if you want to spend all those precious $$$ on LFS.

But seriously... You have been freeloading for so long, and then have the gall to complain?? ROFL Razz

Quote from Ian.H :That sounds positive, but the lack of awareness is what really worries me.

Have you tried patch Y? In my experience, the awareness is already better than before. When I go side-by-side with an AI into a corner, the AI often brakes and lets me pass. In patch X, they would invariably push me off the track.
Version 0.7

Here is version 0.7. There are no spectacular new features, but a new release was needed to handle the new car and track in Patch Y.

New features:
  • Buttons in the trackmap to select the track sectors. (These will be made user-editable in the next version.)
  • Tooltips option shows the X and Y values in graphs, and the units in the X and Y axis.
  • New data types: Wheel speed, Power.
  • New wheel types: Delta F-R, Delta FL-FR, Delta RL-RR.
  • Patch Y updates: recognises new car and track (Formula BMW FB02 and South City Chicane Route.
  • When you add a new graph, the last graph is "cloned": the data type and other settings are copied to the new graph.
Bugfixes:
  • Changing the data type often also changed the selected part of the track.
  • "Open file" dialog also showed files from subfolders.

Thanks! I always hoped that setupfield would store setups for the non-aliens.

Perhaps it's good to categorize the setups, so that you won't download setups that you can't use. For example:
  • Drift
  • Cruise
  • Short race
  • Long race
  • Hotlap (WR)
And it would be nice if there was an indication of the controller. Mouse and keyboard drivers have different needs.

Quote from Yiots :What a coinsidence... I had just ended my Racer fetish when I found LFS. Ofcourse LFS is wholly better in all terms, as Racer is open source for the community to mod, if Im not mistaken.

You're not the only ex-Racer fan here. Development continues to crawl along, and though Racer's graphics still look pretty good, it's outdated in the physics department and in gameplay.

It never was open source, but all cars and tracks were made by the community. The moddability was its strongpoint -- until rFactor came.

In glass, damage can accumulate. Small hits appear to have no effect, but there is damage, invisible to the naked eye. The glass may break at a later time, after what seems to be a light bump.

Oven doors are from hardened glass, which has an internal tension. The tension is intentional (caused by the production process). This makes the glass extra rigid, and when it breaks it will shatter into relatively harmless "crumbs". This tension also makes the breaking extra spectacular.
