Quote from Billicp :im pretty sure there is a way. and im pretty sure on the cruise insims that have this function you dont have to pit to have the restriction lifted :-)

Have you got any documentation on this? I'm sure this can't be done through InSim. It might be possible through other means, but not in a way that's centrally controllable without a LOT of hassle.

When you say "edit" do you mean take an existing project and make changes to it or do you mean start from scratch and make your own? If you're talking about editing an existing project you're going to be constrained in what you can use. However, if you're starting from scratch Java is another cross-platform alternative. JInSim is an existing InSim Library for Java. There are numerous free and powerful IDEs (for editing, testing and deploying code); eclipse is my personal favourite.

Quote from DeadWolfBones :Only security consultant movie I can think of is Sneakers.

Good suggestion (and a good film), but that's not the one. Thanks, though.

Another request, this time with even vaguer information than earlier in the thread.

I (partially) remember watching this film in the early to mid '90s on TV (so it was probably released in the early '90s). It starts off with a guy waking up and getting ready to go to work. He leaves his house and jumps in a sports car (possibly a Porsche 911 variant) and I think he burns rubber when he pulls away. The guy works as some kind of bank robber turned security consultant, so I think they do the old "guy looks like he's robbing the place but in fact he's trying to find the faults in the security system". That's all I can remember. I have no idea on actors. I've spent a while looking on the Internet Movie Cars DB but there are so many films featuring Porsches (and I'm not even sure it was a Porsche) that I thought I'd ask here.

I appreciate the info above is really vague, but it's worth a shot

Quote from tristancliffe :In a race they were probably closer to 600hp.

Hmm, plenty of engines ran over various seasons with 750+ in the races. BMW/Megatron, Honda, TAG/Porsche, Renault across 1985/1986/1987. Somewhere between 850-900bhp as a 'safe' race figure wasn't unheard of. Whilst it's true that a lot of people regurgitate the inflated numbers like "they were all making 1500hp in the '80s and now we've only got 750hp", the good engines were making serious power even in the races.

Quote from jibber :I was wondering about that aswell.

Then again...

I was thinking more about the safety hazard of litres of oil on public roads waiting to catch people out (especially if/when it rains).

How much oil did you piss all over the roads in doing all this?

Seen in the comments of a YouTube video:

Who's the coolest person in a hospital?

The ultra-sound guy.

Who's the coolest person in a hospital when he can't make it to work?

The hip replacement guy.

According to LFS Manual you should get 3 unlocks when you purchase S2. To clarify the situation, how many times have you successfully unlocked LFS? Did you receive the confirmation email for the unlock each time you unlocked LFS? If so, how many unlocks did each confirmation email say you had left? It's difficult to believe there's a fundamental problem in the unlocking system that hasn't been discovered until now.

Another testing 'livery':

If the pic stops working (hotlinking, 404 etc) it's a pic of the (almost) pure white McLaren test car from 1993.

Quote from Velociround :For instance, when I see a new code someone has written that looks very clunky and "not understandable", it may look difficult, specially if there are several loops, one inside the other. But when you figure it out, everything makes sense so beautifully that it looks very simple and sometimes very well thought out. For example, someone handed me this piece of code (that's just a fraction of the actual program):

Looks quite horrible to me. If you find yourself having lots of nested loops on a regular basis (without good reason!) you're probably doing something wrong.

Quote from Velociround :It did not have these comments, and looked an absolute mess before I tidied everything up. What you see is the result of about one hour to figure out what everything meant and understand his variables and vectors, as well as organizing the code. But after doing it, it looked really very simple and easy to understand. Then, as I always do to my codes, I commented on everything and what exactly each part of the code did so that I could get back to it even after months of not developing the code again.

Well-written code only needs a small amount of commenting. Choosing appropriate function and variable names means you should only need to give a high level comment of what each function does and some lower level explanation when you have something that's tricky or counter-intuitive. Commenting every line of code is a waste of time in the vast majority of cases.

"Bite point" or "Biting point".

+1, but the clutch system is in need of some more serious changes.

Quote from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexico :The United Mexican States, commonly known as Mexico, is a federal constitutional republic in North America

It's a bit difficult to lend credit to someone who can't determine which continent* their neighbour is in.

Quote from samjh :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0Sg8it4ZbY

Perhaps the current F1 field should do the same?

There have been karting events in the recent past that involved a lot of the F1 field (and drivers from other top disciplines too). It's 'organised' by Massa and called International Challenge of the Stars. It would be nice to see a full-field exclusive F1 challenge though.

AFAIK the drivers manually close it before they press the brake pedal. If they started braking with the wing open it would cause even more rear instability than usual.

Quote from sinanju :So, at this time, for 2011, instead of the formula1 site I got the ranking from showing

14th Barrichello 2pts
15th Perez 2pts
16th di Resta 2pts

it should be

14th Perez 2pts
14th Barrichello 2pts
16th di Resta 2pts

as both Perez and Barrichello have each had one 9th place (2pts) each, and di Resta has had 2 x 10th (1pt) places.

You have to take into account all finishing positions though, not just the points paying ones. Perez and Barrichello both have one 9th place finish, but Barrichello's next highest finish is 13th (China) whereas Perez has a 14th (Turkey).

Quote from sinanju :I think if players tie, then usually they're placed in alphabetical order, but in this case I've put them in race order as Perez got his place a race before Barrichello.

I'm not sure where the precedent of using name has ever appeared (in F1 or any other professional sport). The 2011 sporting regulations do leave room for using a seemingly arbitrary mechanism but I seriously doubt name would come into it. Perhaps they'd use qualifying results, but it's pure speculation.

Quote from FIA F1 2011 Sporting Regulations :7) DEAD HEAT
7.1 Prizes and points awarded for all the positions of competitors who tie, will be added together and shared equally.
7.2 If two or more constructors or drivers finish the season with the same number of points, the higher place in the Championship (in either case) shall be awarded to :
a) the holder of the greatest number of first places,
b) if the number of first places is the same, the holder of the greatest number of second places,
c) if the number of second places is the same, the holder of the greatest number of third places and so on until a winner emerges.
d) if this procedure fails to produce a result, the FIA will nominate the winner according to such criteria as it thinks fit.

Quote from inmotionsimulation :If you look at the telemetry data, the car does start out in 1st gear (not neutral). So when you shift the first time you're actually in 2nd gear (according to what we're seeing in the telemetry).

Thanks,

I realise this is effectively a necropost (after the necrobump from der butz), but it's worth replying anyway. The reason for the confusion over gears is probably in bold below.

Quote from InSim.txt :struct OutGaugePack

float Turbo; // BAR
float EngTemp; // C
float Fuel; // 0 to 1
float OilPressure; // BAR
float OilTemp; // C

unsigned ShowLights; // Dash lights currently switched on

char Display2[16]; // Usually Settings
