It's a bit oversteery at first if you're used to the normal LX4 setups you're likely to come across. But it's bloody fast. Works well on most tracks with a few tweaks.

I can't sell my mom yet (still need her to do the cooking until I move out) but I might know a guy who might have a mom he wants to sell - I'll check with him.

That might actually be really fun with good elevation changes, cambers etc. Make us a 3D model.

Kev, Kyoto GP (and Rev) are an absolute blast in: XRT, LX4, LX6, RAC, FZ5, FOX, FO8, BF1, XFR, UFR, FXR, XRR, FZR. Probably RB4 too. The only cars in which it's probably not so awesome are the UF1, XFG, XRG (too slow for such a long track), MRT and FXO (which are gay by default). It is, IMO, by far, the best track in LFS. It takes some learning because it's got so many corner sequences and blind corners and turns with weird cambers. I agree with sinbad that it is somewhat ruined by how easy it is to cut certain corners and that's a shame because it has the best chicanes in LFS if you don't cut them.

But frankly, LFS racers bitch that the fast tracks in LFS aren't technical. You give them a challenging techincal track like that and no-one uses it. Westhill's another example of a fast techincal track and so is Aston North. Also, Aston Historic rev is a good challenge in a faster car (LX6, RAC, FZ5, all GTRs, FOX, FO8, BF1).

Thanks - that looks quite nice for covering a wall or something actually. Trees would probably work nicely too.

Those look absolutely fantastic! Do you reckon you could test normal maps out on a tree? I'd really like to see nice trees in LFS - it lacks seriously in that department. Would this help much?

I highly recommend Harvey Danger. But give them some time, it's a weird style at first... after you've listened the album two or three times you'll start to like it. Their one album is actually free for download from their site:

Also, as someone said: MUSE!

What I'm getting at is a model suggested for tyre force combination: you take the lateral and longitudinal forces as per some curves, plot the vector on a graph and if it is outside some traction ellipse, you trim it so that it's on the edge. This is a bad model (but what ISI's engine uses from what I've heard).

I just pointed out that racing drivers will be mislead into thinking forces drop off when they don't. And there's real data floating around online. Avon publishes some of their tyre data (albeit up to a low slip angle) for one. LFS' tyre curves are the very reason that it actually drives somewhat like a car unlike ISI stuff. The harder challenge is doing combined forces. Correct me if I'm wrong but that book suggested the tracion circle approach in one of the pages you posted? I rest my case.

z3r0c00l: Do NOT believe graphs that do not show measurements plotted, and a line of best fit drawn based on the plots. Also, it's best if the source of the data is shown. These graphs don't even have values on the axes, so they're just an impression of "what happens". The thing is, these impressions are usually suggested by racing drivers whose experience might be mislead by a few things. Firstly, up to the slip angle at which lateral force peaks, that force is rising rapidly and it suddenly flattens out. It seems like there is a drop of grip but there isn't. Secondly, lateral force doesn't mean force perpendicular to the car's frame of reference but that of the tyre. The tyre is rotating with steering and perpendicular distance to the lateral force of the outside tyre (which generates more force as it is more loaded) from the center of gravity of the car is decreasing as the driver steers more. This decreases the rotational torque generated. So these curves are misleading.

Real tyres plateau after the peak only barely dropping off right up to some ridiculous slip angle. There is a lot of bogous data floating around because of the above-stated reasons. Don't buy it.

Wouldn't trust that textbook . Normally, with genuine data, you'd see points being plotted here and there and a curve to match the data. That just looks like what someone thinks those curves would look like.

Leprekaun, what Tristan is saying is more along the lines of "do some real racing before setting your hopes high of a career in motorsport, especially F1". Because there are thousands and thousands of tallented drivers that you're competing with. You need to have backup so that if it doesn't work out, you can still make yourself a good living doing something else. Hoping for a career in F1 on the basis of a few kart races and ignoring other things in your life is... just childish.

EDIT: Anyway though, seeing as you're getting into karting quite old... just out of curiosity, how much do you know about cars? How they work, setting up a car, and all the technical stuff? And the theory of driving? Because you can bet your ass Sato had read thousands of pages on the theory of how to get a car around a track as quickly as possible to shine through as a tallent when he started.

To quote Alonso again, "I know there have been suggestions of favouritism within the team but in the end I was always provided with an equal opportunity to win".

Quote from mythdat :Have you been listening to "honest Ron" and McLaren press releases?

Alonso is another in a long line of McLaren drivers who will be relieved to get away from Ron's façade of equality and lacking man-management

So... you're saying that Ron Dennis should have just said to Hamilton "look, we're gonna let Alonso win because he's a double world champion even though you as a rookie are out-classing him"? The problem is not Ron Dennis' policy but Alonso's attitude.

To quote Alonso himself: "I know there have been suggestions of favouritism within the team but in the end I was always provided with an equal opportunity to win". About time he stopped whining.

Great news!

Quote from mythdat :Good for him for getting out of there, though I pity whoever takes his seat as goldenboy's number 2 in that hellhole of a team

What the hell?! McLaren have kept their dignity this year in my eyes after a really really bad year. Have you been reading Spanish press rather than FIA hearing scripts etc. to make up your own mind about it?
