You are right klutch, i have changed no end of clutches, gearboxes, done head gasket changes etc, and it isnt difficult, but all those times it had been on front wheel drive cars, so all you need to do (as im sure you know) is hoist the engine up so the gearbox pokes out and away you go, but now im faced with the same job on an RWD car, no such luck, got to get the thing so bloody high off the ground to even be able to consider doing it, plus those big bolts that hold the diff to the big steel frame under the car are notoriously a b@stard to get undone, and i dont have oxy acetyline here lol

My plan is to buy this cheap run around (i have edited my above post with more info) and then save up the money to fix the mx-5, its deffo needs a clutch and possibly gearbox bits to get it done, plus the MOT is nearly out on it.

EDIT: This is what my 5 now does, its not good

my mx-5 is dead, so in a minute im going to cambridge to buy a mk3 astra.

Its a 1.4, K reg, which is quite old but its a 1 owner from new jobby, 80k genuine miles on the clock, in mint condition, no rust anywhere at all, has bags of service history, dealership serviced all its life, has 6 months tax and a full MOT, and its 400 quid, cant be bad.

My mate has very kindly offered to lend me one of these so i can at least get it to a garage.

His has a beaver tail about 2 foot longer than the one in the pic, and a bloody huge electric winch that successfully pulled a 2.8 v6 mk2 granada estate out of long grass that had all 4 brakes seized solid up onto it so it should make easy work out of a little miata!

My cousins husband has also leant me one of these, so at least im mobile again.

What a beauty lol
I broke my roadster, but what have i broken?

its either gearbox or clutch, or both, but how do i know which, i guess i wont until i get it all to bits

first of all it started to feel really tight when changing gear, i know 5's are clunky on the stick anyway but this was worse, literally fighting to get it in, especially when changing down.

then i went for a gearchange and the clutch pedal went straight to the floor with no resistance and the clutch wasnt working, so i was rev matching to get gears for 2 or 3 miles, then there was an almighty bang when i changed down and the car had no drive whatever gear i was in, just this jingly metallic noise and the clutch pedal went rock solid.

So i managed to roll home (luckily i was that close) and turned her off, and upon re starting it to make this video, the clutch pedal will move about half way down and then goes solid, and it will not go in any gear, even when the engine is off.

My guess is the thrust bearing has shat itself and the clutch fingers and/or the bit the fingers are joined to (forgot the name) have therefore disintegrated which why the pedal gets jammed and it would also explain the noises its making, or the pressure plate could have mashed itself.

Heres the video... (click to view)

Any ideas at what is the most likely cause?

Many thanks in advance! :-)

Cheers for that.

I ran cpu-z but it didnt really tell me anything more than pc wizard already had

I too have googled, and i also mailed HP to see if there is a mobo manual available anywhere for this board, but to be honest i aint holding my breath on that one.

Look in Options >Misc and see what your Multiplayer car draw setting is, if its too low then LFS will draw cars that are any further away than that distance in a lot lower detail, which will give you what you call box cars.
Mobo, or more precisely, socket 775 LGA...

Heres the thing, this little PC that i have bought came with a pentium4 2.8 ghz, which isnt exactly gonna set the world alight, but it uses a much more modern board, (compared to my last 2 p4 powered PC's which were all socket478) a Hewlett-Packard (HP) 09E8h, which runs the socket 775 LGA setup, which seems to be intriguing, as according to wiki anyway, this socket can support upto an intel core 2 quad CPU @ 3.0ghz, which im guessing would be pretty amazing performance wise as opposed to the p4 it has now.

Now i know bits and bobs about working with and building PC's but i have only really replaced things like processors on a like for like basis, for instance remove a dead p4 chip and refit an identical working p4 chip, so i havent had any experience on an upgrade of this type, thats if its possible.

Im presuming that i will need a massively larger heat sync and fan(s) if i want to do this, plus many other things that i probably do not know about.

Would there be much involved to do this, will i need to replace loads of other parts such as PSU etc, or would it be relitavely straight forward?

Many thanks in advance!

That is all it says, pci express, so it must therefore be a pci e 1x socket, just gotta find a decent 1x card now then lol

Well i liked senna's full 360 at quite a speed whereby he was totally out of control yet miraculously missed everything that he could so easily of hit and then just drive off again as if nothing had happened
Graphics card issues, cant find much to fit my PC....

I have just recently bought another PC, its an hp compaq evo d510 sff, sff standing for small form factor, tiny narrow PC, which wouldnt be too much of a problem, i can notch the back of the case out to take a full height card if needbe, but, theres something else....

As this PC is only about 3 years old it does not have an AGP slot, and the bad news is it does not have a PCIe slot either, all it has is a tiny little black slot, (god knows what it is, see pic to see what i mean) and 2 old style PCI slots.

See at the moment, im stuck with onboard graphics, an "Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family" to be precise, which is, well, shite, and i was hoping to upgrade so i have something playable, as with this onboard shizzle, it simply aint.

However, im struggling to find a way of doing this, is there any kind of PCI to AGP adapter or something, or if not s there such a thing as a sensibly powerful PCI graphics card still made, something around the 256mb mark??

Heres a pic of what im faced with...

I have had a quick scout around on ebay and places but all i can seem to find are PCI-e cards that are listed incorrectly.

I have made an epic fail in my purchase a few posts above....

Somewhere i have a 256mb nvidia slim form factor gfx card, which i was going to fit, until i come to discover that these things dont have a f*^%!ng AGP slot!

It depends blueflame, spinning someone out as you come up behind you (or as they have passed you) is regarded as a legitimate move, a typical stock car tactic, however, side swiping/barging, following into the fence, or lunging at oncoming traffic is not.

Quote from dadge :is your anti skate turned down on those technics? track 1 your beat scratching is jumping? could be a loose record too. can be fixed easy enough though. tone arm height could also cause it to skip.

Could well be the case mate, i have had these decks for ages but have never known how to set the skate stuff up properly so its possible thats the problem, needles are fairly new ortofon concordes aswell so they are all good, or it could just be that i am indeed sh!t at scratching

Hybrids as they are called in LFS would almost certianly follow the same characteristics as real tyres of this type, which means that they would be more grippy on tarmac, because these kind of tyres are of a lot softer compound than a standard road tyre would be, stickier tyre = more grip!

Quote from brandons48 :These things take serious skill to drive, 9 litre big block chevy engines in something light like that, and sideways all the way round a shale short-track oval. Awesome.

Seen them in person before, the noise is petrol head heaven.

QFT!

Driving something that powerful, we're talking 800 hp easily, with a locked diff on shale (which is slippier than mud) is not an easy thing to do at all!

Been brought up around autograss, and then later national bangers, so have seen the saloons and brisca f1 and f2 stocks as well hundreds of times, plus my mate races f2's as well, it is a hell of a lot harder than it looks!
