Scawen, does DX9 help with doing multiple Alpha testing? (fixing the ol' disappearing fences through windscreens).

I've given the test patch a try, and I have nothing to report, other than my computer is ridiculous and runs it with obscene amounts of AA (set by nVidia control panel).

Quote from Fordman :Dawes leave it for the play ground mate....Its his opinion so let it be...Move on

Fordie

Except being senselessly paranoid isn't an opinion, it's insanity.

We all get tracked somehow. By using the internet there's inherently a trail created. By even having a job there's a trail of information with employment records and payment. So unless you're actually doing illegal jobs, and being paid in clean unmarked bills, you're being tracked in every facet of life.

The caveat being is that none of us are that interesting for the gathered data to be actually investigated on.

That said, I guess I should expect insanity from cargame considering how bipolar he is towards LFS. He slags it off at every chance he gets, but then proceeds to continue to run servers and be a member of the community.

I had always felt scammed by pCARS. It was originally impressed upon me that it was going to be a proper simulator in terms of physics. But it seemed after they had attained funding, they went back to simply making another iteration of NFS Shift.

Members of this forum tried very early on to point out physics flaws to SMS, but they simply disregarded them.

Only reason I didn't refund my funding is because of the potential of making it back (plus more).

As an aside, I hate the gaming media coverage that pCARS gets as well. Various video game journalism equates the pretty screenshots with a top quality simulator, and people have actually fallen for that. It's terrible as it does a great disservice to real simulators like LFS and AC. It's so bad that people might actually think that pCARS is more realistic because of the flaws it has, which is patently untrue!

Quote from cargame.nl :I have exactly the same thoughts, in the future it might be the best if you ignore my posts, thanks for your cooperation.

Wouldn't the best way for me to ignore your posts is to simply not make them at all? That way the NSA can't track you and read your mind!

Quote from cargame.nl :I am otherwise there wouldn't be such a big fuss about it. You must be tracked because you are not interesting! You know which population also was being tracked during 40-45?

Your argument is so poor that you have to invoke Godwin's law.

Ridiculous. I think I would have more intelligent conversations with a metal post.

Quote from cargame.nl :I like to be in control of what I want to share or not share, at this very moment I shared here my personal experiences with the whole system of buying a product and being NSA't on an official forum. I claim it backfires in a way it actually promotes hacked versions. Now you can be angry about that because it contradicts your Steam fanboyism but these are your own personal limitations.

Except you're not in control. You're giving yourself the illusion, but you use the internet so your privacy has already been invaded as your packets route through hundreds of routes as you connect to various servers around the internet. We know that the NSA has done mass data collection at network routing points.

Plus, who cares? What are you trying to hide that you feel like anyone gives a shit about what you do? Unless you're doing illegal things (which I presume due to your evasion), you're not that interesting.

Get over yourself...

I guess with unusual setups, you might have problems, but for literally 99.9% of the gaming world, unless you have irrational paranoia, Steam is pretty much the perfect service for PC gaming.

Also: Offline mode doesn't require Steam update (obviously).

Who are you hiding from to be so evasive with elementary things such as registering to a forum? Only those with things to hide tend to be that evasive.

Quote from Eclipsed :Except it updates itself whenever it wants and you have to launch it and have it connected whenever you want to play any game. What if I don't have internet connection for some reason? I cannot access ANY of the games I have payed for, sound fair to me.

There is offline mode... You aren't required to have an internet connection. As for updating, you can tell games to not update unless you want them to.

Quote from cargame.nl :It does.Correct, thats once and doesn't require all kinds of side effects like friendlist sharing.

So why are you connecting to the LFS forum? It's sharing your IP address with this server! Even the AC server is sharing your IP address. Connecting to AC servers as well shares your IP address! SO MUCH PRIVACY INVASION.

Idiot.

Quote from Eclipsed :Thanks,Dave, now I have even less interest to register to their forum. I already hate that Steam part about AC.

Why? Steam is a fantastic service. You're obviously fine with LFS requiring online activation. Steam isn't much different, especially now that they've fixed a lot of the issues with offline mode as well.

As for the forum.. you can set your Steam profile to hide literally everything from people that aren't on your friends list (or even people that aren't you) without breaking the AC connection. I don't understand the fear.

Quote from Boris Lozac :How difficult of a job is that actually, can you just convert them somehow or everything needs to be 'drawn' again?

It's more about legality. Blackwood is the only track that's been allowed to be converted, along with demo cars. It's a lot more work as well because unlike rFactor, the LFS track format isn't known. We only have SMX meshes that don't contain all the required UV mapping information.

I did not mention Iracing, and I have not played it since last year either, so don't accuse me of beeing a fanboy of it

And actually, yes I agree to subsription fees like online games have. Sure, it costs more, but there are progress every week. At least for a spoiled **** like me I prefer to pay to get an updated game

If a game gets updated frequently but makes it worse, is it truly an update?

That's what I feel has happened to iRacing. The physics used to be passable a long time ago, but each update has made them worse.

Quote from sinbad :So would you prefer that no simulator ever release anything until the tyre model is a 99.999999% accurate model of reality?

Objection, your honour, leading the witness.
Sustained!

Always so abrasive with the iRacing stuff Dustin

Well, things don't need to be 100% perfect, but the iRacing method of spraying shit on the wall and hoping that it won't still be shit isn't better.

Quote from The Very End :There is no such thing as pure perfection, it's a computer game. It never was or will be the real deal.

And the strife for pure perfection in terms of it's physics is also the reason why it died. While physics is a great deal (the biggest) part of a driving sim, it alone canot carry the weight of time.

So would you prefer the iRacing strategy of release shitty physics and half-assed content every 30 minutes?

Quote from McGherkin :I hate to say it but I think they lost Rockingham a long time ago when the V1 championship pulled away from LFS. I suspect they may have taken the rights to model Rockingham with them.

As for the Scirocco, I don't really know. If I remember correctly the Scirocco was modelled for some sort of launch event? It wouldn't surprise me greatly if this permission was removed too, and therefore if they have been working on LFS they've possibly been working on different content.

I still want LFS to be updated, I genuinely love the simulator and any improvement is a bonus IMO. But there's been no word on these two things which were almost completed (well, apart from tyre physics but that doesn't affect Rockingham) for a LONG time, and it's quite concerning.

Good thing contracts prevent an entity from just removing rights on a whim, and I'm pretty sure Scawen would put clauses in the contract, knowing how LFS is developed.

Quote from Mysho :This year's championship is just a disgrace in terms of referees. It looks like someone paid too much for this to happen in almost EVERY match... Just a disgrace.

After 8 years of refereeing, I think I've disallowed like.. 5 goals for goalie interference .

Quote from Puskin :well LFS became s**t, the same old crap with stupid users, i haven't played for some months, joined a server a few minutes ago and i got kicked , no wonder it has a few players

edit: thank God I haven't bought the S2 crap

It's funny you say that, considering S2 doesn't have the same immature and toxic players. Demo has always been a shit show because there's no consequences. People just create a new account and they're back to being pricks.

Every sim has a static environment...
dawesdust_12
No longer welcome
It requires a lot more than "drop OpenGL to replace Direct3D". OpenGLonly defines graphics, where DirectX has the full stack from networking to audio to input to FFB. All those other systems would need to be rewritten for what gain? LFS already runs well in WINE.

All that software effort would be effectively useless and just a massive waste of time.
dawesdust_12
No longer welcome
That doesn't make sense. How can something that's static be not as good as it was before? It hasn't changed, thus it's equally as good as it was before.

Others have (debatably, as I disagree that any truly have) made strides to potentially place themselves to be better than LFS, but LFS hasn't gotten worse, it's still as good as it was 5 years ago.

It's not magical, and does come with its own set of problems. Like the server changing to the next session, and your client not being aware of it.

Quote from Boris Lozac :You're kidding me.. So even if it's disabled in the main menu, some cars will have it on by default? Does RSR app takes this into consideration, when you look the laps and the settings people have?

I'm not sure. It is realistic though, considering some cars do have TC/ABS enabled by default or non-disable-able as well.
