No improvement for me over Vista, no problems with it either, or my connections to servers. If anything, they've improved. I haven't timed out once since moving to 7, compared to once every 30 mins with Vista
I'm more interested in the things Scawen said he wanted to implement before moving to Beta, rather than the Scirocco itself.
Namely:
- Improve collision physics
- Break off wings instead of bending
- Finish and release Westhill updates
- Improve track shadow rendering
- RB4 / UF1 / UFR interiors
I'd hope that a good chunk of work is done on these behind the scenes by now, which would be worth the wait, for me at least. Who knows, maybe Scawen will surprise us all and release a test patch on Monday with DX11, 7.1 surround and the doppler effect on horns
I know how it works client-side (and how epic and amazing it can be ), but if it can affect things server-side isn't that a major problem? I'm thinking massive hacks springing up and whatnot...
Ubuntu also includes a nifty little "shred" command for deleting single files/folders, that overwrites the old space with blanks. I'm nearly sure that if you booted into a Live CD with Ubuntu, you could use shred on the whole HDD
Just finished the installation, can't say I notice anything different, other than having to resize my HDMI output and my dual wallpapers. The taskbar seems to be "bluer" than usual, maybe that's just my imagination though. I do like the upgrade facility though, it's left nearly everything as it was
E: The graphics are also slightly less "vista-ish", but I preferred them the way they were. Now it's full of flowers and crap And the start button turns baby-blue when you click it...
I'd like to see an option in the cfg to load a layout along with the track. Then again, it only means waiting 10-15 seconds for a track to load before loading a layout manually
My machine is currently upgrading from 7000 to 7068, seems to be fine, but it takes AGES if you have a lot installed. It does let you use the PC fine while it's upgrading, but it'll probably need a restart when it's done...
It'll be released next month or so according to microsoft, so it probably was them that leaked it now to get some extra "unofficial" testing in
Not really though, I get ~15-20FPS in LFS on my laptop in Vista, where if it actually runs in Ubuntu (it usually crashes, or else refuses to load anything, like the attachment) it struggles to hit 1 or 2. I can draw 4 wheels and half a man in the time it takes to render it
And no DirectX apps run on my PC under Ubuntu using WINE, they just crash out and die. I've tried upgrading the GPU drivers to the latest Nvidia Linux ones, but they won't install either (complains about some missing lib, even after I installed it due to something else needing it before)
I use Ubuntu on my laptop, where it is infinitely faster than Vista. On my PC though, it has no proper driver support (800x600 with no sound or internet, not fun), and actually runs slower than 7. It seems to be a kind of hit and miss affair at times. And also the only way to run Windows games is through emulation, which is slower than hand-drawing the game
I bought S1 before S2, but I think S2 was released almost straight after I got S1 :/
Now is a good time to get S1, as a lot of servers are running TBOs. When I was S1, you couldn't join servers unless they were specifically S1 licensed, even if they were running S1 content
I'm by now means "fast", but I find the RAC a lot easier to drive fast than the FZ5. With a good set, the RAC is really nice to drive, and hold at the limit. I found using intake restrictions and slowly removing them helped me to drive it enormously. It is a very tricky car if you just give it beans IMO
