Pitting rules:
Race requires a minimum time spent in pitstall of 10 seconds. That can be done either with single pitstop or sum of multiple pitstops. Driver who has spent less time will receive penalty time added to his finish time, which will be calculated by tripling the missing time to complete neccesary minimum time and adding additional 5 seconds. Drivers failing to pit at all will receive 1 minute penalty added to finish time (10s*3 + additional 30s).

Round 5

Sunday,18th February
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

The 5th round of AWS 2024 series brings us back to standard LFS content - the good old TBO class car RB4 will be run in Westhill, however RGE have decided which course to take during the race and that is a 3.82 kilometer custom circuit, mostly run on Westhill's support roads. It's actually a return of the circuit as it was used in the 2nd Westhill Street Cup in 2018,won back then by the series champion and RB4 Master of that season - Fast. For laptime comparision feel free to refer to unofficial results (official results few posts below).

In the race for championship there is a significant leader, who has finished behind any of his two closest rivals just once this season,so the rivals have to improve their game if they still want to have any chances. What gives some disandvantage to both Thehemuli and Lorenzo - Sobis has finished on podium 3 times in the history of Westhill Street Cup,including 3rd place finish in 2018,in which the same track was used.

Round info:
Track: Westhill Central Road Course 2 (WE1X)
Laps: 22 (84km)
Car: RB4 GT
Previous winners : A.Valta (2023), LLM.V Laguckas (2022, 2019 & 2017), S1DUS*R.Kardol (2021), RGˆDzidoris (2020), B2マ FasT (2018)

* PENALTIES :
Figols (licence name Figols) - receives a disqualification from race results for leaving car unattended on grid, multiple incidents, including incidents with lapping cars, lack of awareness of surroundings, general ontrack behaviour. Since the driver has low online experience (~6800km),it has been decided to ban him for 1 month from RGE hosted events in hope he gathers experience and track/surroundings awareness elswhere before he can return to our events. Future incidents will lead to longer ban.

The short 1.2 kilometer 4 turn raceway was not really crowd favourite as many complained about the selected combo, however everyone has to agree - the short track does produce intense racing as with 30+ drivers it is very crowded and noone will feel left alone on track. Racing was spread in "multiple levels" as drivers on different laps had their battles with direct rivals while needing also to deal with drivers either lap ahead or lap behind or sometimes even both at same time. Unfortunatelly the event host was so slow in his test run,he misjudged possible race pace - normally RTFR races are 30 minutes + 1 lap long, however this was not the case yesterday as race should have been 56 laps long to fill the requirement.

After winning 4 races in row Gábor retired from the chance to win the 5th one and took 3 race break from RTFR,yesterday he returned and scored yet another clean sweep - the pole position was his 24th,in race he led all 55 laps to break the 600 laps led mark all time in RTFR (still 2nd most),the fastest lap of the race was his 27th,the race win started his 4th decade of wins as it was his 31st and additionally he scored his 57th top5. The winner of the latest RTFR XL race Zesty finished 2nd with just over 1/4 of track length gap to race winner, scoring his 7th top5 finish - the 3rd place in qualifying was a repeat of his previous best performance. Dark made his 2nd RTFR appearance, improving his previous qualifying position by 1 position and also finished an RTFR race for the 1st time by taking the lowest step on the virtual podium. M had no arguments in this race to keep his winning streak alive - despite starting from front row,he could not keep up the pace through the intense race and finished 17 seconds (effectivelly more than half a lap) behind winner in 4th position to score his 16th top5 finish. Another brazilian closed the top5 - Sixmoon made his RTFR debuth and could celebrate it with a top5 finish.

VOD at Youtube:

Next week it's turn for the longer RTFR version - the 86th RTFR XL will be run in Westhill International reversed with the PROTECH 92 GT3,making the 2nd appearance of a GT3 car between both RTFR versions this year. The previous try with other GT3 car made itself badly famous so next week can only be better, additionally racers should be more conservative in first laps as the race is more than twice as long. In 2 weeks normal version of RTFR will return with a slower car on longer circuit - which and where you can find out when watching broadcast recording of this race. But the next RGE race is already this sunday - AWS season is closing to it's deciding phase, everyone is welcome to be part of it,taking the challenge of Westhill Street Cup,where RB4 will be raced on a custom support roads based track in Westhill - info and signups in AWS forum thread.

The 2nd season of RandomCar was started in Aston's custom configuration named Classic Boot - a configuration, which is a mix of Cadet,Club and National configurations, introducing 2 new turns. The mix has 2 long straights and rather low speed turns complex, each part of the track benefitting different cars, helping to mix the field even more. A total of 18 different cars were represented in this round, some models had even 3 drivers, including 3 of the 4 new cars - the 4th one was drawn, however the driver who received it did not attend. The car on top however was the same as 2 days earlier in AWS - Fraud Wheeler.

Current Main Hotlap Rank leader and most World records owner J.Holmes proved once again he can do more than just one fast lap - he led all 14 laps of the race with his Fraud Wheeler, however saw the closest rival getting bigger and bigger in the mirror to finish with less than a half second advantage. By being fastest in qualifying, the englishman scored already his 2nd pole position in RC,but the win was his first. Driver with a single letter name M finished 2nd,bringing the last season's 2nd best car Talot from 3rd position on grid to runner up position in finish, setting fastest lap of the race during the chase. His teammate got the light XF Coupe - he used the advantage of the handling well to qualify 2nd,however the disadvantage of this forced him to fight back from lower positions after race start - he rescued at least a podium finish.

After just a single round there is not much to say about drivers standings - the order in table is exactly the same as 1st round finishing order, only notable differences are the point gaps. J.Holmes has a 2 points lead after round 1,M is 2nd,closelly followed by Twincam just a single point apart. Since the top3 scored all round bonus points, rest of the drivers are seperated at least by 6 points. The defending champion R.Kardol hasn't even signed up for 2024 series, however also last year he missed season opener.

With 2 podium finishers B2R of course leads teams championship - they're currently 13 points ahead of defending champions RGA. 3rd is Yes Motorsports, which is already 25 points behind the table leaders. The nations championship starts the season with same fight it ended last season - Lithuania versus Finland. Lithuania currently leads over defending champions Finland by just 2 points,UK benefitted from race winner and another points scorer to take 3rd place with 7 points deficit to top of the table. In manufacturers championship the top3 finishing cars now are also in table top3 - Fraud Wheeler leads by 2 points over Talot and 3 over XF Coupe, defending champion received a performance lowering update between the seasons and currently is 11th - following races should reveal it's new performance potential and then we can decide if balancing is required to be updated.

The randomizer decided to put a new car as it's favourite pick - Talot got 3 draws and with it overtook the all time leader Imprezzive for most draws, while URC1 tied it for 2nd most. Another noticable draw fact is Motimoukari's 4th draw for the Nortz XR2 - he ties T.Soini for most same car draws, who got Imprezzive 4 times last season. The Zafiralis driver did not use the car however this week. Twincam scored best ever results for his car XF Coupe - 2nd in qualifying and 3rd in race, previous best were accordingly 5th (by Unite) and 6th (by Nosle). RD2 repeated best finishing result for Coquette (5th),while 3 drivers set the initial best results for 3 new cars - Nosle was fastest with Dorito (Q: 20th and R: 16th),Arska with Saliva (Q: 17th and R: 18th),but Loco took the lightest and least powerful car in the field to the top10 - Stellar was qualified 11th and finished in 8th position.

Round 2 will take place in Rockingham - only previous RC race in this environment was the test race before start of the 1st season. The racewinner selected the longest standard configuration International Long, but without the 1st chicane - 1st turn is oval's turn 1. It will be a 16 laps race, setting the 2nd lowest race distance in league history as the average speed of the track is quite low.

2nd oval round of the season was run in the Rockingham with Fraud Wheeler - a car that originally has a rally background. But already last year we used it for oval racing and it worked out well,so the return of Rockingham 150 was a logical decision. This year however the race for win was over pretty quickly - the leading duo dropped everyone behind and were pulling away while the rest had it's own struggles to settle in. This time there was no 3-way close finish for race win,but quite similar situation evolved in race for 4th place.

The standings leader Sobis got a support for this race - another seasoned oval racer and his help directly led to 2nd win in row. Both lithuanians worked well together to extend the gap over competition to 13 seconds, but with 5 laps left Sobis lost control over the car and barely rescued the 2nd position. On the final lap he was even gifted the race win as his collegue waited for him to let by - a rather questionable move not in the spirit of racing, however it does not breach any rules. Trespasser is scored as 2nd place finisher despite being fastest in qualifying (1st ever AWS pole position),leading almost all laps and being in secure lead when starting last lap - he settled in voluntary for runner up position on his 1st AWS race this season. Best of the rest was Thehemuli, who was out of reach from any chase attempts from behind, but his tries to follow the leaders failed early.

2nd win in row advanced Sobis into 19 points lead in the standings after 4 of 7 rounds - that is 3 points less than maximum possible score from a single round. The closest 2 rivals for championship are Thehemuli and Lorenzo, seperated only with tiebreaker of best finishing positions (two 3rd place finishes versus two 4th place finishes). A total of 18 drivers are still eligible for main title, however only top5 are considered as at least realistic candidates. This round was also counted into Oval trophy standings, also here Sobis is the leader - he has 9 points gap over Thehemuli, meaning a top3 finish in season finale at Kyoto would grant him this award for the 2nd time.

Best rookie in this round was the standings leader RD2,who now doubled his lead over S.Martin to 6 points,Stiefla is 3rd with 12 points distance to leader.

With 4th and 5th place finishes RGA scored most points between teams and with it increased their lead in teams standings - the defending champions now are 19 points ahead of WCL while LLM is 3rd,represented only by drivers standings leader. Lithuania scored all possible 39 points from this round, but the gap to defending champions and standings leaders Finland is still 34 points - next round will show if there is some battle left for the nations cup. Single driver nation Italy is 3rd with 72 points gap to lead.

Round 5 is set to support roads of Westhill racing circuit - something we have used plenty of times for racing too. This year the RB4 will run in the Road Course 2,which was used already in 2018 edition of this round. 22 laps around the 3.8km temporary circuit will be a good test for all the racers and this will be the round which will either sharpen up the race for champions title or settle down.

I personally don't object optimization (even if I'm personally not stroken with it - had no framerate problems even in the badly famous Deene massacre),using hacks to avoid limits is surely a no go from my point of view, however I would suggest not to go extra limiting because of these who used hacks.

Round 4

Sunday,4th February
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

2nd oval round of the season and the 2nd fastest round, but overall it marks the middle of the 7 round season. Rockingham 150 last year was thriller where the result was decided in last lap between drivers running in different situations during the race. One thing is clear - as always on higher speed ovals there is no replacement for teamwork, however the gain of successful teamwork is not as huge as known from Kyoto oval. The midengined coupe Fraud Wheeler is equipped with R4 slick tyres, which do not provide a lot of grip, however are much more durable during the high loads experienced in oval - that relieves drivers from need to take care about tyre temperatures.

As always in the oval rounds we will use hotlap qualifying to ensure solo effort being decisive in order to take high grid positions. The running order of qualifying will be decided from Drivers Championship standings - lowest placed drivers will start qualifying while standings leader will take his run last. Everyone will have to run 3 laps - outlap and 2 timed hotlaps, after which driver should spectate, only fastest lap counts of course. 2nd timed lap is optional - theoretically cars are faster in 2nd lap,but in case of a mistake, driver can spectate without finishing 2nd timed lap.

As usual,to avoid many questions,Race Green Events' statement about bumpdrafting:
"With closed wheels cars it is not forbidden, but in case of any reported incidents it will be treated as intentional contact,so everyone has to make sure that he knows what he is doing!"

Current series leader has a healthy advantage over competition, however constanty doing way above 200 km/h during the next race one mistake can have much higher impact on result,so the situation in standings can change quicky. But the 2019 AWS champion has also one important minor award under his belt - in same year he also secured the oval trophy (winning also Winter 200),meaning he's deffinitelly no beginner in this kind of racing.

Round info:
Track: Rockingham Oval (RO3)

After the huge misshap 2 weeks ago,it was very refreshing to see things back to normal - despite the badly famous turn 2 of this South City configuration, there was no trouble and besides few stronger or weaker bumps, the race went rather clean as there were some complaints but no actual reports/protests. But that does not mean that people were simply cruising around the city without intention to improve their current positions,on the contrary - some raced so hard, they found out where exactly the limits of RB4 tyres are and some overpushed them losing pace and positions. However that was more the case on lower positions - from top5 starters only one did not finish in same position as he started, more amusingly - 4th and 12th place starters traded the positions in finish.

Just like 2 weeks ago, driver with a single letter in his name led all the laps of the race - M once again dominated the event, allthough not in absolute domination fashion - he was just 0.16 seconds faster in qualifying and finished with over 6 seconds gap over competition. The lithunian is the 25th driver in RTFR history, who has scored at least 4 race wins, while his pole position was also his 4th,addionally scoring his 3rd fastest lap of the race and 15th top5 finish. The 2nd place in current season standings (despite finishing just 3rd in 1st race) will keep the position also after this round - R.Kardol was the 2nd best in the latest race, scoring record breaking 87th top5 finish, taking over sole lead in this chart. Another lithuanian finished 3rd - Loco's previous best results in both sessions were 7th position in 4 started and finished races, yesterday he improved both of these to 3rd position. 4th was True Alpha, who started from 12th position,he did a lot of overtaking to score his 23rd top5 finish,top5 was closed by 3rd B2R driver in yesterdays top positions - Twincam scored his 5th top5 finish.

RTFR server now has been set up for laptime testing of next RTFR XL - the combo is PROTECH 92 GT3 @ Westhill International Rev. But on coming sunday AWS will feature it's 2nd fastest round of the season, where a 250hp midengined coupe will be run in Rockingham's Oval, info and signups for this are to found in AWS forum section! In 2 weeks RTFR will return with some short track racing with one of the slick tyres wearing cars - which and were was mentioned in the broadcast of latest RTFR,full info as always in the weekend before the race.

Between seasons there have been several changes in cars lineup, here is the overview:

First of all there was a car with rather low performance, which was supposed to be put on voting between the seasons if it should stay. However the car received update from it's creator, which made it heavier, thus rendering the car even more uncompetitive, therefor no voting was required as organization decided to retire the car from RandomCar by default.

The VGI-6 TEDAVI was drawn 17 times through the season of 2023,it's highest qualifying result was 6th position (achieved by S1DUS*FasT in round 4 at Kyoto National Rev.) and it's best finishing result was 14th (achieved by B2マ Rayman in round 6 at Lindoring). The car finished 24th in 2023 Manufacturers championship, scoring 23 points in 5 attended rounds.

- - - - - - - - - -

Between seasons 2 RandomCar eligible cars have received approved status, which grants addition to the series lineup by default:
First of those is FEND TORUS,an all wheels driven sedan which will become the most powerful and also the 2nd heaviest car in the list. It will receive 4% restrictor as balancing measure.

2nd approved status car is SALIVA15,a japanese coupe with pretty much equal performance to the LFS's standard TBO class, therefor it will join the league without any kind of balancing.

2 cars have been added via voting - one of those is an approved status car that has more than 300N@40m/s total downforce, which allows cars to be added by default, therefor the DORITO FD7 had to receive users approval first and it succeeded. The coupe with a simulated rotary engine will start it's journey in RC with 13% air restrictor.

The new addition from standard voting is the new lightest car in the list - STELLAR K61 tipps the scales to 841kg together with it's 80kg additional weight required for balancing, while with 190 horsepower it is also the least powerful car in the series.

The new year of RTFR XL was started with the fastest original LFS car - the BMW Sauber F1. Despite high drag from it's wings,it still easilly passes the 300km/h mark. Also it's the quickest in terms of drying out it's fuel tank - that made differences in strategies for the race as some were able to complete race distance with single pitstop, some needed 2,but some decided to hit walls and go for more than 2 pitstops. The combination of all these factors made the race completelly unpredictible when watching from aside as few drivers early on top positions finished way below their expectations while some from behind rised up the field.

Exactly 5 weeks after his 1st RTFR win,Zesty scored his first also in the XL edition - the malaysian took over the race lead twice before taking it permanently on lap 29 to lead the latest 2/3 of the race distance. At one point he was right behind 2nd place driver, being close of lapping whole field, but the 2nd pitsop put him a bit back and he finished with 57 seconds advantage over closest follower, clocking 10th highest margin of victory. Zesty's 2nd place in qualifying was 4 positions better than previous best and the race win was the 3rd top5 finish, previous best - 3rd place, also adding 1st fastest lap of the race to his stats. He is the 30th different race winner in RTFR XL history, while his country is the 12th in winners list. Ayoub Maroc led a total of 19 laps during the race, however had one too many mistakes to get set back on low position, but his return to top positions succeded as his finished 2nd,repeating his best achievement. 4th position in qualifying was an improvement of a single position and the moroccan scored his 6th top5 finish. The best of europeans was the event host, who finished 3rd and last on lead lap, scoring his 30th top5 finish in RTFR XL. Arska finished right after the race winner, but being lap down does not score him 2nd position - it's 4th place finish instead, increasing his top5 count to 11. The polesitter M had plenty of adventures during the race and led just 4 laps in 2 runs, finishing just 5th - the day brought him his 4th RTFR XL pole position and 6th top5 finish.

* FUN FACT OF THE MONTH :
Selecting fast paced races has became a trend latelly in RTFR XL - only 1 of last 4 races had the average speed below 200km/h,the latest one just shy of 223km/h.

* CLOCK PITTER OF THE RACE :
T.Soini returns in this paragraph - he spent 10.28 seconds in his only pitstop, clocking the lowest legal time in this race. He refuelled the car as everyone else.

* FIELD RUSHER OF THE RACE :
The 3rd try to finish RTFR XL race succeeded for Rex - he finished 10th with 9 positions gain between start and finish. Also Michal gained 9 positions, but he finished a position lower.

VOD at Youtube:

Next week it's back to the shorter distance of normal RTFR - combo was mentioned during the previous RTFR broadcast, full information as always in the weekend before the race. Combo for next RTFR XL in 4 weeks is currently still unknown as the winner hasn't decided yet.

This round was back to the classics in a certain way - the AWS idea was created on race in Blackwood, back then running the slicks only wearing FXR. Now we have come a long way as the GTR car is replaced with a lightweight buggy in the 12th edition of Blackwood RXGP which is even faster than the origins car. Just 10 drivers gathered up for this round, recording season's lowest attendance,4 of them doing "double duty" of having 2 events on same day.

The fastest in qualifying was Lorenzo, who outrun the competition by very slim advantage, scoring his first ever AWS pole position. His previous best was 3rd place in qualifying, recorded first year ago in the same car on same track, just in reversed direction. His race however was not so convincing as the italian fell down to 4th position. The best in race was the 2019 AWS champion Sobis, who started from outside of the 3-wide front and rallied up positions to lead the last 2/3 of race distance. It was his 3rd AWS race win, previous 2 were scored on his championship season. Arska started from 1 position lower than race winner and eventually followed him through field to finish 2nd,also repeating his previous best race result in the league, however his previous 2nd place finish was achieved in 2017. Another front row starter finished 3rd - Thehemuli led 13 laps before losing lead of the race, eventually losing also 2nd place.

With standings leader winning the race it's clear who keeps the lead in the table - Sobis trippled his advantage over competition in this round and now is 12 points clear of 2nd place which is now taken by Lorenzo. Thehemuli and Rony are another 2 points behind, the first of them is ahead on tiebraker. If reclaiming champion's title is still long way ahead,Sobis has set sights on repeating the Cross challenge winner's glory - he needs "only" top4 finish in last race for the award to secure the award. Thehemuli is currently 2nd with 10 points disadvantage. The fate of this award will be decided in round 6.

Rookie of the year standings lead has been retaken by RD2,who finished 5th this round. S.Martin is 2nd just 3 points apart, not attending Stiefla has fallen down to 3rd with 7 points gap to leader.

2 teams scored 26 points in the latest round and both are now leading the table - the defending champions RGA took over the standings lead and is now 11 points clear of WCL. LLM is now 3rd,while previous leaders S1dus have dropped down to 4th due not attending. For the 3rd round in row Finland has scored most points between nations and the northern country is on the best way to defend the title. Lithuania is still 2nd with exactly half of the points count of leaders,Italy has climbed up to 3rd.

Next round marks the middle of the season - 4th round of 7. It will be a repeat of round 7 of previous season - Rockingham 150. It's a 150 kilometer race around Rockingham's oval with the 250 horsepower car hailing from the 80ies,which has R4 slick tyres in it's equippment, meaning the car certainly does not lack grip through the turns of english oval track, teamwork can be an important factor in the race. Last year the race ended in a very close 3-way finish - can this be repeated once again?
