I meant one of kegetys mods such as ghostcar / motion blur, the d3d8.dll would be in the same directory as LFS.exe.

If you've got one of kegetys d3d8.dll's in your lfs directory, try renaming it before you record.
Why not let lapper automatically load a standard named .cfg if there's none provided by commandline?
'raw' are three letters added to the end of a filename, the content can be whatever you want.
You can edit the sound files in any editor which supports the format, soundforge seems to autodetect the format which is quite handy.

If you're not running something obviously resource-heavy in the background, i'd say this is probably the very last place to look for 0.1 extra fps.
