Quote from gohfeld23 :I really miss the old clean days of LFS as well and I'm affraid LFS will never go back to what it once was.

I don't think that the dev team has brought this upon us however, the recent changes that have been made/added have attracted a very "young and competetive" crowd that many of us old LFS'ers don't agree with.

Races have also become much more dirty then they used to be but there is a simple explanation to that.

Back then, you knew everyone you raced with as there were only a very limited number of players.
People had to take care of their reputation as respect on the track was much more important the simply fast laps.
This has changed quite a bit, as many might have noticed.
As devs obviously like the increased popularity, I don't expect the devs to cater to the needs and wants of the old minority.
I simply just race cars that the new crowd doesn't like, for the most part (LX, RAC, etc)

The good old quality is still there, however limited and hard to find. But its sure worth looking for it.

I thought that 3 years with LFS doesn't make you old school

But anyway, you are so right. The nature of races and general attitude of the racers have changed quite a lot in those 3 years I've been in. In 2005 everybody just raced, raced and raced. A restart after a finish, and another 5 laps of fair racing after T1 mayhem. Now the T1 habits have gone better but everything else is worse. That's why I only race in controlled environments like CTRA servers, because I want to make use of those few hours I play instead of getting an end race vote on the last and 12th lap (like last week) or get hit by a guy zooming the pit lane wrong way (like week before).

Tell me about it. Took 15 minutes to get a contraceptive pill into the other one's mouth, and I still failed to notice if she really swallowed it or just stashed it. But I bet they hate me as much as I hate them

I admired his driving in GP2, but in F1 that 'talent' seems to be all gone.
Kubica and Kimi are a lot better imo.

Quote from Mustafur :You realise this road sweeping is getteing so bad bascially anyone can win now.

Well, that's not a bad thing to happen in money driven top level motorsports.

But then again, the idea of rally is to drive as fast as possible, not to win by slowing down.

Quote from morpha :Just imagine how interesting racing would be if there was a way to really mess up your setup, like fitting a bigger engine and/or a bigger turbo without installing an appropriate cooling system (Clarkson style ). That would certainly make LFS the most realistic sim there is

Imagine what? It would make no difference in racing.

If I had to choose, like one of them would be coming into a deserted island with me, I'd take Vicky.

Quote from Glenn67 :I've never detected abnormal behaviour at the high settings only when I go above 100% do I feel abnormal FFB, how can you tell if it's clipping as you say?

You can tell it just by testing, after you've get used to those smaller values of course.

The clipping doesn't appear as "abnormal", it just means that you feel a maximum force in your wheel even when it's meant to feel smaller. Set it at 15% and you feel absolutely everyhting, set it over 100 and you only have two forces, "on" and "off". Anything between, I guess you get the idea.

It also depends on a car and setup (caster), but Nils has said that the maximum safe setting for G25 is around 25%

You should lock it to some value which is divisible with your monitor refresh rate, eg. if your monitor runs at 75 Hz, lock the fps at 75, 150, 225 or 300.

Stable fps generally feels smoother than bouncing, but I'm not sure if it'll make a difference in your case since you get 300+
Same for vsync, it depends on your set. Disabling it may cause image tearing but enabling wasn't smooth at all for me, so I decided to leave it off and lock my fps at 75.

Quote from Glenn67 :How can you guys drive with such low FFB?

I have 90% in the logitech drivers and 100% ingame, setting ingame arround 25-30% just feels so lame

It depends on your wheel though, but I suspect that your force feedback is clipping and you actually feel less with such high values.

With red MOMO the optimum was 101% in profiler and about 40% ingame, and with G25 it is that 20-25.

I think it would be cool to be able to export all the driver and control related settings into a single file you could just take to a friend for example, to avoid the hassle with the settings. (been suggested before)

Would also work in your and your brother's case, even though as BBO said, you are breaking the license agreement.

Quote from [DUcK] :@frokki yeah, maybe. Though I get more nervous and stuff in LFS that I do real life... In real life I manage to get myself into another world whilst driving on the limit.. in LFS i'm always thinking for some reason, and not as relaxed as I could/should be... maybe that's why I'm slow

From my very limited karting experience with these 8hp go-karts, I also am more relaxed with the kart than LFS even when pushing too hard and racing friends wheel to wheel. When I get in my "zone" in the kart, the forces do all the work and also the air breeze cools you down.

Maybe my driving position in LFS has it's part in the show? I have limited room and the furniture is what it is for estethic reasons. The wheel is too high and I also sit high, it's like a 5 year old driving a bus

Maybe your RL racing background helps to relax in a sim? (Assuming it's you on your avatar).

I don't use much force either, 20-25% with the G25, so the thing is not physical, but mental.

As much as I love your artistic pics, this is not anything less IMO.

Sure the talent is lot more than just copy & paste? You managed to get the lighting and reflections fit perfectly with the other picture without even editing!
