Did you remember to correctly uninstall the PCI card drivers and install the onboard ones? Sounds like a driver problem to me.

Can't really offer a solution right away but since they are wireless things, I'd try unplugging them, removing the batteries for few minutes, reinstalling the logitech software and plugging them into another usb port or something like that.

Depends on a car too. I have a ford sierra nowadays and I just can't be smooth on shifts with it, unless I drive it really roughly (and that requires high, illegal speeds). It has an odd clutch with 1 inch bite at the top and 4 inch empty travel at the bottom. There's also something wrong with either the spark or injection at little amounts of gas.

Unfortunately I can't give you a direct answer, but if I'd want to change the knob, I'd just buy whatever knob from a local car tuning shop and glue it in place with hot glue.

You can run Linux on PS3, and LFS on Linux, but I wouldn't buy a PS3 just to be able to frustrate myself trying
