It was important to me to separate [what you consider to be] the fundamental differences between RL-racers (or, more accurately, karters) and sim-racers.
Unless your proposed league/server is solely for karters, that seems pertinent to this topic.
e: @ AS: that's why I withdrew the comment. Incidentally, you're very defensive.
Just to clear this up, would I be right in supposing that:
1. in conventional tin-top / open-wheeler (?) / sim-racing, passing requires that the overtaking car be half-way along-side the target car before claiming the inside line, and that,
2. in karting / (?), the aggressive 'dive-bomb' technique prevails; i.e. it's clear to the driver with the outside line that he is being overtaken, and adjusts his line accordingly.
[Are there limits? Does the inside 'dive-bombing' car need to maintain its line to be a legitimate pass, or can it run wide? Please clarify.]
I totally understand your desire to race like-minded individuals. I don't want to race you, but I do wish you luck
I know that it was a provision of my finance that my car be comprehensively insured and it's certainly no sports car
You don't need horsepower to kill yourself, though. A proper defensive driving course incorporated into the licensing process would be a good place to start.
very cool
Interesting to see the XRT gets better economy in cruise mode than the XRG. Gearing I suppose :cyclops:
With the very notable exception of the FZ5(!), I would have thought the cruise figures are a bit low overall.
Shame you diluted your poll with that third option, huh
I've done over 110,000 kays since s1; I reckon I've raced every combo that interests me. Even a single new high-quality fantasy track, made by the community, would go a long way towards renewing my interest
Pissed I missed this [threee times fast]
That's about 4am for me, bugger.
If anyone a bit closer to home wants a run, I'll be there today about 6am GMT.
I prefer a couple of sprints, say 15 laps/20 minutes or so. An Aussie league does this, and does a reverse-finishing order for the second race.... good fun, although T1 is pretty interesting :yikes:
I do enjoy an enduro though, it just seems to take more time to get prepared.
When I'd race on a Redline server running LFS-Lapper, I found that it could add another dimension to the racing.
You'd have kind of 'split war': you could apply extra pressure - and perhaps even force an error - simply by setting a handful of quick splits. Get them watching their mirrors, or just break their spirit
I agree though, it can get a bit much, and it really needs to be configured properly.
Typical  Just when I was starting to enjoy this thread, along comes someone who's actually done tests, made pretty pie-charts, and er... examined molecular structures, composites... um....
Based on the footage I've seen, it seems that, the trade-off for a stickier tyre is a more sudden and dramatic loss of grip when it does 'let go'.
Of course, if you have any video evidence suggesting that LFS's slick modelling is indeed accurate, I'd be happy to eat my hat, yum
edit: sorry JTbo, kinda hijacked your thread.
I'd have thought that if it were possible for a modern open-wheeler to get the bum out 20 or 30 degrees in a controlled slide, there would be a goggle of youtube video replies by now.... <plug> because, as we all know, Youtube has all manner of crap!</plug>
Fair enough, I haven't seen that. You sure can get those RWD GTRs pretty damn sideways, though :cyclops:
That video is pretty much a one-off from over twenty years ago. I'd hazard a guess and suggest that tyre technology has advanced somewhat since then.
The FO8 is based on a modern open-wheeler, with modern tyres, and you can do that on pretty much every corner. Fun, yep, forgiving and good for online racing, most definitely. Realistic.... I have my doubts.....
I disagree I can see quite clearly when a car is in a lairy sideways drift in a video.
You haven't!? You really should get out more, then
I base my comment on open-wheeler video-footage. If such slip-angles were controllable - or even possible - I'd imagine we'd see a bit more of it, tyre-temps be damned.
The first step is admitting you have a problem Congratulations! I only counted eight exclamation marks....
..... er, eight, plus the three in your sig :cyclops:
My only grammatical vice is full-stops [*cough* periods]; though I do like dashes and semi-colons a lot, too..............
I think the problems you describe lie largely in LFS's tyre physics - they're just too forgiving. And I don't think it's limited to just the FO8 (which I love BTW ) - I really don't think such lairy powerslides are possible in anything with racing slicks
