i remember suggesting this 2+ years ago, at RSC... and being given the  "it's been suggested before" treatment. I reckon i've seen it suggested 5 times since
If you can think of a way to poll for names, and then manage to get them into general use, good luck to ya!
I hope that this thread might give an idea to server admins what the general population is looking for, when it comes to pick-up races.
Server A has the combination you want to race, server B has the same combination. They have the same amount of racers, but different variables. What do you look for?
If you can think of any options I may have missed, please post 'em.
I don't really, either My guess is that LFS lets me know more accurately (or perhaps faster, or more intuitively) that a wheel is about to break traction (for example) than, for instance, an ISI sim.
That's pretty wishy-washy, sorry... perhaps someone more technically-minded can explain it better. Also, bear in mind I've done a lot more miles in LFS than I have with any 'sampled-sound' sim (tho I did get right into GTL, briefly), so it's possible I've just become accustomed to generated sounds
It just doesn't seem to offer the feedback that realtime sound does Mind you, I'm very non-technical, so that's just my take. For me, it's a matter of feel.
LFB in open wheelers, RFB with heel-toeing (G25) in tin-tops.
I'm experimenting with some left-foot braking in corners where there's no need to change gears, but so far not much success... shit I'm un-co with the heel-toeing caper
I guess there are exceptions. For example, if I let him go, and he has a mishap ahead, then unless he gets right on my tail again, I certainly wouldn't be doing him any favours.
But ten laps with a blue flag message... my perception of courtesy aside, I reckon that might get just a little annoying, too
I think you would get a warning (maybe a voice warning from your pit crew ), and if you fail to comply quicksmart, the penalty would be imposed. Like mrodgers says, I think the blue-flag code would need to be refined tho.
Gotta say tho, if someone was close enough to me to trigger constant blue flags for 10 laps, I'd be letting him go
edit: by auto-enforced, do you mean your car would lose power, or something similar? If so, boo :P
perhaps Fordman meant, which, of the two, rate the highest. That is, do you want absolute, brutal realism (eg. touching the walls at the city equals a three-wheeled car), or are you content with realistic physics (otherwise, I doubt most of us would be here) with some liberties taken (eg. restarts, forgiving damage model, HUD and radar/map).
good point... I rarely even notice the 'yellow flag' tbh.
Maybe something 'bigger' is being worked on, but a temporary solution could be a time penalty added afyer the race for those that overtake under yellow.
@ Bob Smith - yep, the FOX is relatively easy to drive. For me, the challenge lies in refining each section, chasing [my own interpretation of] the perfect lap :cyclops: Like hotlapping, I spose, tho much less irritating
Plus it's a fun car to chuck about, i reckon, and like the MRT of old, it usually provides clean 'n' close racing. I voted Green, love that place.
I'll only hotlap if I need to qualify for league races. I find it painful and annoying; i'd rather just race :cyclops: I didn't vote, none of the options apply.
I lasted 3 months. In my defence, I think I've had more than my fair share of shit lately... but perhaps I was just looking for reasons to start again.
I'm planning on quitting again next week, good luck to those who are having a go
I'm learning heel-toe atm, too... and I'm pretty shite at it I've always left-foot braked, so it's a matter of reteaching my muscles/reflexes I s'pose. One thing I'm trying, that you may have use for... once you start to master a combination, look for places where you can left-foot brake. This of course frees up your right foot to ride/dab the accelerator under brakes (tho I hope to get better at doing this with right-foot braking).
I'm not real fast either, but I find if I visualize the perfect entry, line and exit-speed for the following corner, I tend to do quite a bit better
