Using a Logitech Attack3 jostick as a direct handbrake here.
The analog axis sits at rest in the centre and registers halfway along the axis so it's always half pulled on in LFS. :/
So I used DXTWEAK to fix that so the top 1/2 arc of the Joystick is interpreted as the whole range. However some games can't even register more than one controller (wouldn't work in RBR) and some have the axis inverted which cannot be changed. :banghead:
To make all games work with it I just assign the joystick axis to the "D" key using JoyToKey program and assign the handbrake in my games to the "D" key. Not a true analoge handbrake no, but the hassles when changing games is painful enough to make me me sick and I find I never want just a little handbrake, when I pull it I need full handbrake anyway, so meh works for what I want. This way all games work and I don't have to reconfigure stuff everytime I change games.
Positioned it perfectly so I can rip on the e-brake and then change gears quickly. Also the Joystick comes out easily for flight sims to.
I turned down the global device settings >> Overall Effects Strength to zero as follows.
And then just like yourself, the movement button test in the G25 Racing Wheel Properties wouldn't respond.
Make sure you have overall strength set at more than zero (100% is good) for global device settings and for any individual game profiles you have set up.
edit: RE: your PM
If you're really worried about your G25, test it with your old PC or on some other PC.
Try another VGA cable if you have one spare, sounds just like a problem I had once. The cable was causing the signal to be very fickle something was right near the plug end. Cutting in and out. New cable and no more problem.
Make sure the cable is attached at both ends securely using the thumb screws that come with VGA connectors.
When you reboot the PC does the wheel spin around on it's own and self calibrate?
When you run the profiler and go to this screen
you should be able to tap the 4-way POV hat switch left/right and the wheel will spin flat out left or right. Does the wheel spin then to?
This is a good way to see if the driver is working correctly. If it is good, then it might be a problem with your LFS install. Redownload LFS and try a fresh version.
Maybe the resolution is set wrong, something out of range in Wnidows(100mHz or too high resolution) for the 19"
Try booting into safe mode (F8), that reverts back to a low resolution tthat should work almost any monitor. Then you can change the resolution in safe mode.
Obviously you have access to another PC, you are posting here. Have you tried the 19" monitor in another PC? Maybe the monitor has co-incidently died at the same time you got another PC. It's possible.
Do you use another monitor in the meantime on your new PC? or have you just always conencted the 19" ?
Have you managed to get any monitor to work on your new pC? If not then your PC hasn't been conifgured or the graphics drivers haven't been installed. I don't know, just all guess wor here. Don't know what has beeen done so sorry if any of these ideas seem obvious or stupid.
He didn't even metion LFS?
The correct place to post it would have been here since it's not directly an LFS technical isssue.
No problem anyways, if you change monitOrs always reboot the PC with the monitor turned on and plugged into the PC, then the graphics card can detect new resolutions available.
You posted your PC specs, but no mention of the LCD brand/model.
Try breaking more before changing down gears. You have to match your speed more to the revs if you're not going to use heel/toe or downshift through all gears.
AI aren't smart really. They used to be a lot dumber about 2 years ago. Now they break a little bit at least. It's probably going to be a long time before AI are improved again. It's not LFS's focus to have uber AI.
But seriously don't waste time with LFS AI. LFS is the "on-line racing simulator" Go online. You're only going to piss people off if you deliberately drive like an ass or you crash on every corner or you have dangerous net lag.
Some people can only race the racing line so get annoyed when someone is a little bit slower on the track. They freak out and don't know how to pass and blame you for it. You're doing them a favour being a back-marker and teaching them how to pass slower cars.
Depends how old the games you play are. The oldest game I play is RBR and it doesn't support wide screen. BUT, there is a free cam-hack program available that allows you to adjust RBR aspect ratio in game so you can fix it easily.
Any modern game will support widescreen, you may have to re-configure them. For example LFS I just deleted the card_cfg.txt file and selected the new widescreen format in LFS. Other games have a config file to run.
List some of the old games you intend to play here and others here will be able to inform you if they are widescreen compatible.
Also some old graphics cards cannot support all screen resolutions so you should look what resolutions your graphics cards spports. For example I had a Radeon 9600 pro which could not do 1680x1050 the radeon 9800 pro could though. A guy at my work bought a cheap 16" 1360x768 LCD for his home word processor PC and his on-board graphics could not do that resolution, everthing had to be stretched to 1024x768 so we found him a $30AUD AGP 4400MX and it supported his widescreen okay.
Random info tidbits.....
Not too long ago - pre version V times (before your time at LFS :P) the ability to edit layouts on an online server was not even possible. You could only do it in single player mode. The message "A new guest is connecting" was in use even before that time. As you said it is good to see though because you know to stop adding objects. But I imagine it was there initially so people know someone is connecting. To help locate bugs and problems that might occur during this Joining process.
BTW: I thought JOOS was an acronym for Join Out Of Sync. (or Joining)
I've been playing a bit with this at 10% FFB in game. It's really fun to get some more lively FFB in LFS. It will be cool to be able to add some tweaks to this. I love how in gtr-evo the wheel shakes a bit when you lock up the wheels. My whole rig shakes and that's gotta be more realistic than a butt kicker shaking just because the wind is low freq.
I think you will find that all the details in the side mirrors are also replicated in the main rearview mirror. I think the side mirrors are just the left and right side of main mirror chopped into two and the field of view(?) changed slightly. So you could use the virtual mirror (Shift+M) and see what is already present in the side mirrors.

About your view:
Personally I don't feel that the most realistic view for a wheel controller is sitting on the bonnet. When you are in a real car your view is restricted by the pillars, the dashboard the door panels even the top of the bonnet (hood) obstructs the view. Some are happier to use "bonnet cam" and that's fine and I understand that view is nicer for some reasons. - Just that it is not the most "realistic" when talking about realism. Everyone has their preferences so that's fine. I tell you what's funny and that's seeing peeps with fully decked out cockpits in their living room and then the view on screen is the actual cockpit again. So they have two cockpits
If you are considering that the LCD screen is the actual car window and that's why your view is put to the bonnet, I think you should sit on the left or right hand side of the monitor or shift the view left or right depending what side the driver seat is on. IMO that would feel more real then sitting directly in the middle of the car bonnet.
