The reason I wrote this guide is that having received several messages regarding broadcasting games, I thought it was necessary.

The reason I don't use XFire, but Mogulus instead, is one of how useful Mogulus is to someone who organises and broadcasts a league.

Mogulus not only offers us a way of broadcasting to many users, but also automatically records the races we run so that they can be made available on-demand for later viewing. Added to that, we can embed the Mogulus Player into our website. As well as using the software inside the 'Studio' to add titles, scrolling messages, and all sorts of fancy stuff.

Xfire by comparison is great for what it is but for my purposes, and for those like me who run leagues and want to broadcast them, it is limited in its use.

Read the first post again - the userbars now use a script with the kind help of SamH from CTRA.

Please update your userbar in your signatures, drivers

Quote from BigTime :Regardless of who did or didn't spectate after rolling, that's something admins need to keep a little closer eye on. IMO, if a car rolls and spectates there should still be an SC irregardless, or those drivers should be penalized in the future.

Yeah actually I held off sending a SC once in the race session. This was not in accordance with the procedure I wrote. It should have been called but it was my call not to send it out. I realized immediately I was in the wrong, but it was already too late - if I'd sent it out a long time after the car had spectated I would have had a lot of puzzled drivers wondering why.

Like I said earlier in the thread, I made some mistakes in this round. I don't think it spoiled the racing on track (I hope), but mistakes were made, and I need to recognize them and move forward. I won't make them again.

I'm going through the replays and my own list of observations from Sunday at the moment. In particular we're looking at failure to observe league procedures regarding spectating and pitting, as well as racing incidents.

OK to draw a line under this:

Every decision made last night was made by me. Maybe suggested to me, but I had the final say so the buck stops with me. Any mistakes that were made were made on my behalf, so please direct any criticisms at me via PM please. I am very keen that we run the best series in LFS, so I value good criticism and would welcome advice on running things smoother. But please understand that mkinnov8 stepped in at the last minute to do a hard job, and for that he should rightly deserve praise.

Again criticism and advice to me via PM please.

Quote from dekojester :I've noticed, in my experience, that grid ordering apps tend to fail when the reorder is transmitted to LFS when not everyone is on-track at the time...people even being in garage can seem to mess with it, I've seen.

There is that to consider, as well as the possibility that we made a mistake when re-ordering - we were trying to order people by LFS Username when what we saw on LFS was the Driver name.

Just my input anyway. The ordering app works as intended but we need to tighten our procedures, I'll make sure that we're ready for the next round.

OK,he had a better time but..... wrong group.
sorry for bad english

Actually, I told him to be there

It was so there would be even numbers in both shootouts. As it happens, there were a few no-shows......so that may not have turned out to be the case.

Quote from racer hero :So if I competed in the reserve shootout for round 1, I still have to carry new entrant ballast? Even though I am proved to be slower because I didn't make it into race 1?

Correct, Kenneth. The ballast system is designed so new entrants to the races (i.e. qualifying & races) are not running at an advantage to others. I agree that in the early rounds the system may be weighted heavily against new entrants, but it favours them towards the end of the championship.

We'll be looking at how to improve this for next season. (Please don't use this thread to discuss said improvements, I'll make a seperate thread soon)

Good luck in the Shootout by the way, mate! You were in a class of your own yesterday in the FOXs, if you drive like that today 30 Kgs won't be too much of a problem to you anyway.

Clarification
Joe_Keaveney

TO clarify a point under discussion recently,

Drivers who have not competed in QUALIFYING OR THE RACES of a previous round of the iTCC
  • will carry 'new-entrant' ballast (30Kgs) in qualifying and the races of the Round in which they are competing if they make it through the Reserve Shootout of that round.
I believe this clarifies the issue. This position is in keeping with the spirit of the ballast rules.

Have posted this in the sign-ups thread also:

'Just to re-iterate this point in the rules to new drivers for Round 2 of the iTCC.

At the second and each subsequent round of the championship, any driver entering the championship for the first time that season will have a 'new-entrant' ballast of 30 Kgs for that round.

You are not required to carry ballast for your Shooutout Session, but you ARE required to carry the 30 Kgs of ballast if you are new to the iTCC for Round 2 and have qualified from the Shootouts to the Main Event. There IS a software checker on the server that WILL auto-spec/auto-pit you if you try to break this rule.

Quote from anttt69 :Sad to see all of these drop outs but it it does mean more chance for the rest of us to make it into the main event .

Just to confirm the shootout is a hot lapping knockout comp right? Based on one flying lap. Then the top 15 go into the main event.

There are 2 Shootouts. You will be in one of them.

The shootout is 20 minutes long. In that 20 minutes you do as many laps as you see fit. After both shootouts have finished, I combine the results from both shootouts and the top 15 from the combined list go through to the race meeting itself.

I hope this hasn't come across as terse, I just wanted to clarify the situation for you. I think this is written in the rules anyway, but if you need clarity then the passage above should provide it. Please let me know if you're happy with the explanation as I don't want anyone to not know what is going on

Thanks for the spreadsheet, Jack! Much appreciated

I was meaning to make a spreadsheet to work this stuff out. I do about 500 miles a week and was using a calculator to work out mileage.

I've noticed quite different figures betweeen fuels. Using Esso Diesel @ 97.9p / litre(in my little Fiat Panda Diesel) I got an average of 62.2 MPG or a cost per mile of 7.1p. Now using Texaco Diesel (again at 97.9p / litre) I've averaged 54.3 MPG!! And I wasn't driving very differently either although of course the recent weather must have played its part.

I'll keep on trying the different brands and report back sometime to give the Diesel take on things.

Thanks again!

Quote from Bee :Me and a few team mates are intrested, we're just wondering if the required laptime is set with any restrictions in place or not?

No - it's a HotLap of AS6 within 2:50.18

Usual Hotlap restrictions apply of course, no cutting, no going on the grass etc, but if it's a valid hotlap then great!

Get out on the track and do those hotlaps!

Bit like real broadcasters do?

Yeah that would be great but Flash Media Encoder doesn't allow for that. I will look into broadcasting software though to deliver this before encoding. Thanks for your thoughts!

Hi racers,

The server details for iTCC Practice, Shootouts 1 & 2, and the iTCC Championship Races are as follows:

All sessions: 'ICON Racing - Server 1'

The server is passworded in the week leading up to any round of the iTCC. It is not passworded at any other time.

[REQUEST] Layer to 'weather' advertising boards
Joe_Keaveney
S2 licensed
Hi,

I'm changing the advertisement boards in LFS to carry logos from our team, and the league we run (the iTCC) and so on.

I've done that, but the boards look a little too new, too perfect.

So what I'd like to be able to do is to apply a 'weathering' effect to make the boards look a bit more real.

If any of you graphics guys could help out or point me in the right direction that would be great!

Thanks,

Joe Keaveney
[Request] Full-Screen Race Results
Joe_Keaveney
S2 licensed
Hi!

If someone could take this project on I would appreciate it most gratefully.

I help to organise an LFS League (the iTCC) - it runs every month, and every month we broadcast the races from each round. This runs really well and the broadcasts are of very good quality. But we'd like to do one more thing.

After the race has ended, LFS gives the race results in a small box in the top-right of the screen. This is too small for broadcast purposes. What I'd like someone to code, if this is possible, is a full-screen implementation of the race results.

To avoid over-crowding of the screen I'd like to have positions 1-12 on one page (callable by $page1 or something, closed by $close), positions 13-24 on the next ($page2), and positions 25-32 on the last page ($page3).

The format of the screen would be:

<Whatever the Race Series is called>

1. Player Name Car Laps Time Penalty
2. Player Name Car Laps Time Penalty
3. Player Name Car Laps Time Penalty
4. Player Name Car Laps Time Penalty
5. Player Name Car Laps Time Penalty
6. Player Name Car Laps Time Penalty
7. Player Name Car Laps Time Penalty
8. Player Name Car Laps Time Penalty
9. Player Name Car Laps Time Penalty
10. Player Name Car Laps Time Penalty
11. Player Name Car Laps Time Penalty
12. Player Name Car Laps Time Penalty

I think it would probably look neatest with each 'cell' of the table displayed in a button? (I think that's the right word).

If the bottom 1/10 on the screen were left clear, this would also be good as this is where advertising scroll-bars run in the broadcast.

The reason no buttons for closing the windows are needed is that in the broadcast, I would have the commands ($page1,$page2, $close, etc) mapped to the keyboard so the viewer does not the GUI side of things. Instead all they see is the results displayed on the full height and width of the screen.

One last thiing, if I call $page1 then $page2, it would be good if the program first cleared the screen before displaying $page2, as obviously we would get 2 pages on top of each other

Thank you for considering my request.

Cheers

Joe Keaveney

P.S. I did (briefly) look at InSim and if I could learn C or C# but I think that will be a long-term goal once the iTCC season has finished - right now it's too complex for me to take in Hats off to you programming guys Thanks again!

Hi Tony

Unfortunately crashes happen. Maybe you've been unlucky and suffered more than your fair share, I don't know. What I would say is, crashes either happen because of stupidity on the part of one or both drivers, or because one or both drivers has acted in an unexpected manner.

I would say that you should get back onto CTRA Race 1 and keep driving, keep plugging away at it. AS your skill levels and experience increases, you will be faster and therefore more likely to be further up the grid and therefore in the comapny of better (cleaner) drivers. Also your experience will tell you what type of driver your opponents are. Either you'll have seen them before and know they're lunatics/good drivers/sunday drivers and so be able to predict to some extent what they will do, or you will notice behaviour on the track that will give you an idea of how they might react.

For example, on Race 1, I often see drivers who *ahem* robustly defend.... - when I try to pass they close the door, which is their right, as long as they do it cleanly. Sometimes they're dirty so I report them, sometimes they're clean and we have a good little battle for position.

Try to learn how to set-up your car, this will help you get round the track better and make you faster and therefore you'll be racing in the company of better drivers.

Finally, eventually you'll amass enough points to move up to Race 2! Where I try to hang out if there's anyone on there. Most drivers on here are scrupulously clean drivers. I say most ....

Have fun mate! See you online!

Joe
