anyone else noticed that the first post seems to state that flat engines should be low revving, then turns around and suggests that the FZR with its flat 6 should be the highest revving?

Quote from mrodgers :The main problem that I can think of is lag. If you are connecting through the server to be a team boss, then there would need to be more slots. If you are connecting to the other's computer through say, tcp/ip address, then that person now has 2 connections going, one to the server and one to you.

Racing door to door takes a lot more online than flight simming online. I'm on 56k and have been racing and flight simming for 2 years online. If I was to use teamspeak/Vent, then I am immediately kicked from the race server. Of course, I can expect that on 56k and many use TS/Vent with no problems on faster connections. But in flight simming (at www.wspilots.com is where I fly occasionally) I can fly on the server, web surf, download files, talk on TS/Vent (though it's choppy) all at the same time. Big difference than racing and the racing sim needing to precisely know where each and every car is on the track.

You seem to have missed the point, the TP would connect to the driver;s comp ONLY, not the race server

My way doesnt need to report it, and forces things to be your way. And best of all, it can be done NOW without burdening the already much put upon Scawen. I'm sure if you talk to Dygear he might be interested ni such a project.

The bottom line on this one is pretty simple. Either settle for it ebing on your wishlist as it is now, or do something about it yourself using the tools youve got. If you don't have the tool you need, make it or get someone else to help you make it. Not having a crank handle for a bottle jack didnt stop me from working on my old truck, just meant i had to put in a little extra work to pound a piece of metal into the right shape to use as the handle i needed.

And i just realized i forgot to adress Sprint Car drive train in my last post, since it was asked about. They are direct drive, from the output shaft of the engine, to a live axle at the rear (thats right folks, no differential). This is the reason for rolling starts. The cars get push started, then form up. Theres a way to decouple the driveshaft so it can be pushed about or coast, but cannot be re-engaged from inside the car (make sure you dis engage this before shutting off the engine, if you like having control of your car)

and with that i will sign off its about 5 am local time and i just got off a 12 hour shift)

Quote from Ventu :+1 this is a new step for simulations... like rfactor!

not to state the obvious... well thats exactly what im doing because i wanna make sure you can taste your boot in your mouth...

If rFactor has done it, how is it a new step?

Quote :For a good portion of the past few months I've been writing a 2-stroke engine simulation based on what I've learned writing 4-stroke models for inclusion in Virtual RC Racing 4.0. So far the results are quite good and we fully intend to have this engine tuning in VRC as it's very much a part of real racing.

anyone care to give me the odds of running into another member fo the VRC community here, AND them offereing the same arguement i was going to?

as a suggestion, i would suggest that engines be restricted on parameters buil into the cars (bf1 would be restricted to 2.4L V-8's for instance), and that an "engine" be a separate setup file so that you dont have to transpose a crapload of numbers form one set to another jsut cause you want to use the same engine. a setup CALLING for a certain engine is another thing entirely

"Holy crap it seems there were a lot of posts while i was reading, it was only one page when i started (or ive finally got bonkers)*

One final note, this might also allow for other "Formulae". IE the Formula V-8 is what is is because of the supposed impositions on its design by the supposed sactioning body of the series it was designed for.

Some friends and i used to run a series with Mechanik, Formula V6-Lights. Lighter Weight, lower power, and a suprisingly competitive and exciting formula. I couldn't help but reminisce a little about that when i finished reading.

I'm all for this, as a member of a team organized liek this it would be a huge advantage, and especially helpful in endurance races, where the car could be set up for the next driver by a 3rd party, rather than taking the driver's attention off of the course to do it via the pit menu. Having TP'ed for one of the F1 teams in the Sim FIA F1 championship, there are a bunch of times i wished i could do this for my drivers, so they could keep pushing while i figured fuel strategy.

I'm sure if everyone else on my team loked at this they would gladdly agree

actually i would think road cars would have longer wearing pads, as they are intended for long periods between services, at least in street trim, obviously performance pads provide mroe stopping power and wear shorter

im glad to see my idea getting support, and mroe glad you tolerated any typos i missed since im typing this at 5:22 am

Quote from sinbad :Nonsense.

Button clutch is the worst of all the options in LFS. It should have been removed years ago. Anyone that thinks it's more realistic to tap a button on your wheel needs their head examining. It has absolutely no connection with using a proper clutch pedal, at all, and is nowhere near as difficult! I might just as well have a "blink clutch" where I can use my eyes to activate it, or a "spit clutch", I don't think that needs explaining.

Worse still, you accelerate considerably faster if you use it.

Button clutch is a neccessity as some people MAKE their own controllers or modify an unused button with a switch to make a 3rd pedal, as is a common practice with the logitech driving force

Quote from EeekiE :Again you've misunderstood what I'm trying to say. I don't care what controllers people are using. That's up to them. That isn't what my point is about, or what I'm discriminating against.
That's like saying wheels have a blatent advantage over keyboard users.... well obviously they do. But a h-shifter and clutch, can acheive the same functions as a seq'shifter and clutch button, as again can bound keyboard buttons. They can all dip a clutch and select a gear. Of COURSE some ways are going to be easier. Whether the limiting factor be money or preference, is up to them and doesn't matter.

I was trying to say there is a way to include a "hardcore mode", without locking it down to hardware, as I think it shouldn't be. People are free to use what they want, and if I get beat by a guy on a keyboard, I'll be amazed and praise him, not be ashamed in the slightest. I can't stand elitist gaming mentality.

And for the record I used to play Viper Racing with a clutch keyboard button and got pretty good at it as a kid.

THANK YOU!!

Quote from thisnameistaken :Big deal. Over the course of a race, or numerous races, unless you've got the co-ordination of a toddler, the manual shifts ought to pay off. If this isn't the case then yes, maybe you should go back to the driving aids.

That is the look of sensible thought. The same also applies to other aids. It should be noted that as far as i can tell the aids do not brake for you or accelerate for you, but instead back it off if youve given it too much.

Quote from Cue-Ball :I totally disagree with you here. Doing things manually in this game is never as fast or easy as using the driving aids If you make ONE mistake it's guranteed to be slower. Using three pedals is more difficult than two. Period. If it weren't then modern F1 cars would still have three pedals and companies wouldn't be spending billions in R&D to develop clutchless manuals.

There is no risk or chance of mistake when using the driving aids. When not using them there is, at best, still the *chance* of making a mistake. I shouldn't have to drive 100% perfectly just to keep even with someone who is infallible thanks to the computer.

If me, Tristan, Eeekie, etc want to play on a server with this option enabled, what's the harm to the rest of you? Why are you (not you specificially, Kev. "you" as a group) so against us being able to play this way? How is our group playing together negatively impacting the rest of you?

I've got an idea for you!

1) Start Private Server
2)use combination of insim and new scripting system to create a program that one must be logged into to not be knocked off the private server. This program resets the neccisary options using the script commands now and again, and reports to a central server that the driver with X LFS world name is in fact running the program and should not be autokicked.
3) Leave the rest of us out of it
*)when you do this, let me know, if ive solved all the issues with my home made shifter i might just race with you occasionally

Tristan, please dont fsck with my view of the Brittish as a more polite people than my own... I'm very much with filur on these issues, most of them are simply nonsensical.

Some of the views here could be viewed as quite "elitist", basicly refusing to drive with anyone that uses less than 3 pedals. If you can't handle someone who uses braking help its time to swallow your pride and a big dose of humility because that aid isnt that great. Auto clutch a problem? Not really unless you view those who simply do not want to build/kitbash/buy/othermethod a third pedal.

Nobody's stopped you from creating your own insim/outguage programs to set the view to onboard and what ever other neurotic needs you have and making it a requirement for a league. You could even make it report data toa central server for logging of violations. Whatever floats your boat. The very term "Hardcore Mode" drips with disdain for those who do not wish for it.

Quote :I mostly drive the road cars like the XRG, XRT, LX4, and FZ5 so those are the ones I'm concerned with. Also, many people have requested new cars which would use a clutch and normal manual gearbox (NASCAR, Aussie V8, Sprint Car, etc). It's important to many of us that these cars operate like they would in the real world.

Cue-Ball please check that the car youre suggesting should shift like it's real life counterpart does in fact shift. Most sprint cars I've come across and my friend Mike Morris drives have neither clutch of gearbox.
Brake heat and wear

Hey, i was jsut thinking the other day, why not use a model similar to the tyre model for brake heat and wear. This could serve as another balancing aspect and tuning option for cars.

As a balance option some cars may not cool thier brakes as efficiently, resulting in fade and extra wear from longer braking zones.

as a tuning option, there are many compounds of brake shoe and a few thicknesses of rotors out there, resulting in different ratios of "grab" and wear life.

As compared to the tyre model it shouldnt be much of a problem as the rotors and pads should heat uniformly, unless warped.

Endurance teams have been changing out brake pads and occasionally rotors on pit service stops for a while now, I'm not sure just how long but the past couple year at least.

Crazy idea but why not an LFS car in LFS?

people have been screaming for the RB4 GTR for quite a while. Some have even made thier own renditions of it.

I'm rather fond of this rendition

Tristan, easy on the IQ of oval driver please. Racing room needs to be given everywhere, and the oval being the simplest track to get around without wrecking attracts new drivers. New drivers need to learn to give racing room, something that comes with experience.

Pitspotter, good tool to have handy. Auto pitlaning for contact? Sorry but this burns my ass. LFS is a Simulator. Cars dont magically go POOF when they get a little out of shape or hit something. See a yellow flag? Its warning ahead of time that something has gone down ahead of you. Your car spun? Wait till the track is clear before pulling back out. Car spun in front of you? Tough, its part of racing, things go wrong.

Private servers are really the only way to make sure you get experienced racers. Because you only invite who you beleive is a clean racer.

Wow.... so many varying levels of self conduct.

Teams with Egos that are pissed that thier privelege to be in a series has been denied (sorry guys, next time try coming in with the mentality that it is an INVITATIONAL series, which it is)

Teams that get the idea of the support races and will race in them to build thier resume for next season.

Teams that are just rolling with it.
