@Breizh: I don't understand how you can dismiss the practice of death penalty as irrelevant? Of course, in an ideal world, only those who "deserve" it are put to death (for me that's actually nobody, but that's a different matter). But in an ideal world, we wouldn't need punishment at all, so practice is all that counts. And yes, punishment on the whole can never be perfectly just, but that's still no argument for taking someones prime human right (=life). On the contrary, for me, that's an argument against life sentence just the same.
I agree, that imprisonment is inhumane, but don't you think it's less inhumane to imprison someone than to take someones prime human right? It's about the difference between taking away a human right and circumscribing it. A judicial system can always err and death was irreversible last time I checked, imprisonment is not and it's therefore alone already the more humane punishment.
And about this:
No, that's not the critical difference. The critical difference is, that I think the validity of human rights (with life being the most important one) is the indispensable basis of a civil society. Money is utterly irrelevant in that regard.
And here's another critical difference. I would never, ever call any human being "useless ballast". That's an offence towards human rights in itself.
I have a different questions about how points are awarded:
Racing on race2, I noticed that you seem to get a lot more points in the GT2 class than with the UF1. Is that the case or just my imagination? Also, setting the lap record in the UF1 doesn't really seem to make much of a difference as to how many points you score. Is that the case or is it again just my imagination?
I wish we could agree on a guideline as to how bars should be displayed, but I guess it's impossible to find a general consensus. And it's probably just me being anal and wanting everything all tidy and organized.
Afaik, anything that can be thrown around a turn fast enough to lift one wheel, will have problems bringing the power down with an open diff. The thing is, that the setups people usually drive with, are very low and very stiff compared to what you'd normally have on a Daihatsu Trevis. So a UF1 with a realistic road going setup would probabably not benefit from an LSD. So, realistic setup options would cure that problem in LFS, I think. (I don't want to start the discussion about limiting setup options again, though. We've been there before :tilt
Soo, since I don't know anybody in rL who would be geeky enough to play gpmp for me while I'm away -- would anybody around this forum like to manage two teams at a time? Would be quite a long time, though. I'm leaving on August 19th and will not be back until September 9th (that's like two full seasons, I think). In case anyone's interested, let me know and we can work out the details via pm.
(seems somehow a little strange, to let somebody else manage my team for such a long time, but even after only 6 races, I already feel attached to my team and would like to watch my drivers progress etc.)
Afaik, the Autobahn is statistically the safest type of road in Germany*, despite the fact that there's no speed limit in some areas. Trains and planes are of course a lot safer -- with the latter being generally much faster than cars on the Autobahn. Most lethal accidents happen on tree-lined country roads. Trees and maladjusted (=excessive) speed are a very bad mix.
Well, btt: The fastest I ever went was 220 km/h in my Clio and in several rental cars. More than that makes me feel rather uncomfortable for some reason.
*) On a different note: For some reason traffic seems to flow much better on highways in countries where there is a speed limit. Must have to do with the fact that the differences in speed is generally smaller between cars and you have to do less braking and excellerating. It's better for the environment, also. So, I might actually be in favor of a speed limit on the Autobahn, as long as it is something around 150 km/h (I seldomly go faster anyway).
Besides the fact that I find economical reasons a rather poor excuse for taking someones life (no matter if done by governmont or robbers), most people who are sentenced to death in the US are usually imprisoned for several years and sometimes decades before they are actually executed. So, they do cost money. Maybe even more than regular inmates because they keep the legal system quite busy up to minutes before execution.
Apart from that, the American constitution forbids "cruel and unusual punishment". Why death penalty should not be cruel and unusual, especially the way it's practiced, is beyond me. It's unjust, too, of course.
But looking on lfs-world is almost like reading the last page of a book first. I'd much rather wait till the broadcast is out. Much more fun watching then .
Actually, the lowest I've seen is teaz-r at 7%, which is quite remarkable. Mine is at 17% right now and the lowest I ever had was 15%, afaik. But then again, I know rather well, why I'm up by 2% again -- racing the UFR at FE Gold is not good for your yellows, if your just getting used to the track (can anyone say "flip"? :tilt.
Hey guys, I'm going on vacation next week and I was wondering if it was possible to set the account to hibernation or something for that time. Because if I just let it be, my team will participate in races and stuff, but I won't be able to manage it, which would be bad, I suppose, especially for sponsors etc.
So, does anyone know if there is an option somewhere? Maybe at the end of the season?
As others pointed out to me above, it's not really that secretive. The licence ranking pages give a pretty good idea as to which licence requires how many points.
CTRA race:
Bronze=300pts
Silver=1,300pts
Gold=4,300pts
Platinum=12,300pts
Titanium=anywhere between 50,000 and 50,500 pts (wild guess: 50,300pts)
SS Licence:
NatB=300pts
NatA=between 1,300 and 1,500pts, but probably 1,300pts
As National A is the highest anyone has, yet, everything above is pure guess-work, but I'd guess it's 4,300 for Interntl. B and 12,300 for Interntl. A.
Feel free to delete the figures, if it's against the spirit of CTRA to post these here.
There's really no need to get all worked up about the yellows count, imho. The system treats everybody equal. Sure you'll have the odd race on a server where you throw quite a few yellows without it being your own fault, but it's the same for everybody and in the long run, it can be considered a good indicator of how clean a racer is. After all, the important thing is what CTRA makes of this count and, as Becky stated several times, anything below 20% is considered a decent percentage. With the average being 28% for all CTRAers, this shows that the staff is sensible enough.
