Perhaps it's just a Northern thing. The only other official track up here is this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v ... k4l0A&feature=related (yes it's a real track : no it's not speeded up, and yes, these guys are seriously seriously mental.) No nancy boy Southern softy circuits for us yunno
It's a shame really if you're just driving from home to the circuit and back again. I guess you've not got the time to do the touristy bit when racing. Some of the circuits in this country are in really nice areas, and it would be good if you got the chance to have a look around. If you get the chance the next time you're up in Croft, try to check out Richmond and Barnard Castle, lovely towns, lovely countryside (perhaps a bit too twee for your tastes, but your dad will love it )
Shame, but, WOW, how much do i want that in my life
Just strap a portaloo under the seat, get Tescos to deliver a bag of food once a week and ask the neighbour to walk the dog, Bob's yer uncle Fannies yer aunt. I'd never leave the house again..bliss..
Scawen could do Timotei adverts, Vic could open a cannabis farm in Amsterdam, and Eric, well, Eric looks like he could be the next Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World.
People will moan whether they have any right to or not, that's a given.
From experience, the Dev's have been pretty tolerant of all the complaining, it's only when it reaches a head that they tend to respond. From all the whinging posts i've read, i get the distinct impression quite a few folk in here simple don't "get" LFS, they don't understand the ethos behind the game, they don't understand the working practices, they don't understand the basic character of the game/it's community or the Developers, they don't understand the amount of work involved, or the spirit in which the whole enterprise lives. LFS is a bit like a cottage industry, or a friendly little country pub that only serves real ales and home made food. It's not a place that endlessly churns out insipid fizzy lagers or mass produced tasteless boil in the bag chicken tikka. It's a niche product, it's a quality product, it's a hand built, coach built Rolls Royce or Morgan car. LFS isn't Toyota or GM, it's a bespoke product, it's a thing of quality, not quantity.
I personally find it odd that people are complaining about the pricing of S3 if it only contains 1 track and 1 new car. I've happily paid twice that for only 1 plane for FSX, and over 4 times that for a bit of scenery. I guess the masses have been spoilt by the superfast developements of large faceless companies releasing addon after addon for all the big budget games out there. However, in my experience, these addons only have a shelf life of a few weeks at most, then the whole game is consigned to the back of a dusty cupboard. Not so with LFS, at least, not for the diehards who "get it".
(I'm not preaching to you Andriod, i know you already know all this stuff )
It's possibly the best performance v's price Winmobile phone out there. Although if you can get an HTC Hero or a Toshiba T0G1 cheaply, then they're perhaps a better bet.
Have to comment on the Sirf III. I've got a little keyring bluetooth one for my phone, and it's bloody fantastic. It picks up strong signals even indoors (at least 3 satellites), and outdoors i've never had less than 9. Cold starts take less than a minute to get a lock, and "hot starts" are instantaneous.
Battery life hasalways a problem on every phone i've ever had, so, simply buy an extended battery. Mine is about three times the power of the original, and i only have to recharge once a week on (normal use) It'll run either Tom Tom, Navigon 7 or Memory Maps for about 12 hours on a single charge. The only problem with an extended battery is the extra bulk of it.
I'd also highly recommend you install PointUI and look for the PointSense Suite theme. It's never gonna be as good as an iphone interface, but it's a million times better than win6.1 or even 6.5/6.7.
Although, i must admit, i've recently had a play with the iphone 3Gs, and, by god its lovely, so so much nicer to use than anything winmobile based, i'm sorely tempted to make the leap (if i can afford it)
It's rather dry and boring, but fascinating non-the-less. There was some serious arse kissing going on from the spokesman of the Renault company, but it also brought up quite a few more questions that i'd like an answer too.
Who exactly is this mysterious "Witness X" character, and why did he/she keep quiet for so long ?
Who exactly came up with the idea in the first place ? Was it Symonds or was it Piquet ?
Piquet is still a snivelling little shitbag, and i'm still not happy with the immunity he was offered. The reasons for his immunity simply can't be justified considering his strategic role in the conspiracy. I really hope someone brings a civil case against him for his actions in these events, he doesn't deserve to get away "scott free".
Still no explanation for the lack of a huge fine for the Renault Team/Company, obviously the arse kissing worked. Then again Maxie likes that sort of thing, so...
And, it's so so obvious this whole event was turned into a Briatore witch hunt, in a way, i'm actually starting to feel a bit sorry for the guy. I still think he deserved to get a ban, but, it does feel he's been targeted for extra special punishment. Poor guy, -ish.
So Renault got off lightly...(or in other words, the FIA were shit scared of loosing them from ALL motorsport)
Can't help thinking there's a disparity between the McFezza-spygate thing and this obviously politically motivated response. Especially when they brandish such terms as "unparalleled severity" and "compromised the integrity of the sport, endangered the lives of spectators, officials etc", then only give them a suspended sentence, it's not like they're gonna do it again any time soon. And no fine ? come on, what the hell ? Ok so they have to help fund a few safety bits and pieces, but really, is that enough ? Just makes me wonder what would have happened a few years ago if Mercedes had been threatening to leave the sport prior to all their spying nonsense.
The Briatore punishment is deserved, and it's tough on Symonds, but probably merited. But, and this really angers me, Piquet jnr's immunity from prosecution, nah, not on. I don't care how young, inexperienced or under pressure he was, at the end of the day he was the one sat in the car, he was the one that crashed, he was the one that agreed to it, and then kept his mouth shut for a whole year, and only opened his gob after he got the boot (and let's not forget he got the sack for being shit). I'm aware his father had words with Charlie Whiting at the Brazilian GP, but he (jnr) didn't have the balls to follow through with his accusations at the time (so he sat on it until he could use it as a bargaining tool perhaps ?). That tells me all i wannna know about PK jnr's character. Maybe Flav was right to accuse him of blackmail. Either way i sincerely hope we've seen the last of him and his father, neither deserve to be involved with F1 anymore in my opinion.
Anyway...Just a wild idea to spice up the races that i've just thunked up whilst reading the above posts.
How about having the starting grids based on either the results or the fastest lap times from the previous race. Then, on the Saturday they could have a three phase fastest lap session on low fuel loads for extra points. i.e, get knocked out in 1st phase = no points, get knocked out in 2nd phase = all get 1 point, then the rest fight it out for the big points, fastest time = 12pts, 2nd = 10pts, 9, 8, etc. Then in the race, the winner gets 25pts, 2nd get 20pts etc, similar to Moto GP.
I'll admit i'm not entirely sure if this would work, but then again i've never ever complained at the lack of overtaking in F1. F1 has always been boring to watch since, well, since as far back as i've been watching it. In "Ye Olde Days of Yore" part of the excitement came from never knowing if the cars would actually make the distance. Mechanical breakdowns, missed gear changes, bust tyres, drivers skill were always an unknown factor in determining the race order. Nowadays the cars/tyres/drivers are so damn reliable its almost enevitable that the race will be won by the guys on the first few rows of the grid. If anything, it's these factors that have made the sport "boring" and not the increased factor of the modern day aero modelling. By the very nature of physics i'm not sure if it's at all possible to build a car with F1 levels of downforce and make them easy to overtake (at least not without making the cars look bloody ridiculous). So perhaps the only solution is to install sprinkler systems at each circuit and have them come on at completely random periods. Just a thought...
{edit} Oh great, i took so long to write that, the topic's moved on to Briatore's knob. Might have guessed....
The "word on the street" is the head honchos at Renault were'nt convinced of Flav and Pats innocence so give them a hefty shove towards resignation. They're probably expecting a huge fine (or worse) so they're obviously hoping this sacrifice will go some way to lessening the blow.
Possibly not, but they still have to face the FIA hearing on monday (the charges were levelled against the team not any one individual).
As you say they may still get a fine or a suspension though. However, Renault have been considering leaving the sport for the last few years, perhaps this is just the excuse they need. They probably don't want to be forever associated with something of this magnitude.
Interesting times in F1, interesting times...
p.s, have to say i'm pleased to see the back of Briatore, but it's sad to loose such a stalwart as Pat Symonds. I never would have thought he would be party to something like this, but, i guess you can never tell what really goes on behind closed doors.
Initially they'll start working on the team/car in Norfolk (apparently 10miles from the Lotus Cars factory, dunno if thats this RTN place). However, they'll move full production to Malaysia when they've built a "state of the art" factory over there. This whole venture is being funded by the Malaysian Government and a consortium of businessmen, and led by the 15th richest man in Malaysia no-less !!.
I'll let you decide if this is gonna be a real Lotus F1 car or not. But the thing that gets me is how have they been given the nod over BMW/Sauber who've just found a new buyer ?. They're already in the sport, they've already got the car, the drivers, the manpower, the infrastructure, the factory, the history. Is this a case of money and advertising revenue talking, or is Bernie settling a few scores here after the BMW-led FOTA breakaway saga ?
I've been using Windows Mobile based phones for the last few years, and although they can be - sort of - made to function like an iphone, and - sort of - made to look like an iphone, and have similar-ish apps to an iphone, it's an absolute pain in the arse to get them to do it.
One of the main problems is WinMobile takes up too many resources just to run itself, then you have to asking it to run a dedicated Ui as well, then you're asking it to run all the apps and stuff you've installed. My phone's not too slow tbh, but that iphone i tried was so silky smooth, so fast, so intuitive, it was like night and day by comparison. And with the iphone the apps are so so much easier to find, (i would guess they're easier to configure to), and probably cheaper. The iphone camera's not great, but not too bad either (better than mine). And i would guess the mp3 files are much easier to install on the iphone than my current phone too.
The only thing that's putting me off is the cost, they're stupidly expensive over here. Another phone i was considering (the Samsung Omnia) is more than half the price of an iphone. And we can only get them on O2 contracts, which means there's no competition, so they can basically charge whatever they want. Rip-off UK, you bet
Anyway, i liked the iphone i tried, but time will if i take the plunge or not.
The reason i ask is, i've been thinking of getting an iphone recently, and although i've only had a ten min play with it in a shop, i have to say i was mightily impressed.
It's odd though, i read another post of yours you wrote at roughly the same time in another thread, but your spelling was fine in that one (that's a hint). We'll put it down to a simple typo
After he retires - probably next year - he'll be forever know as "Giancarlo Fisichella ex-Ferrari Formula One Driver". The other six teams he's driven for will count for nothing. And who would say no if offered the chance to drive for them, especially at his age.
All i hope is he doesn't embarrass himself in these few remaining races. He does seem to be having a few problems adjusting to the fezza though, but that doesn't mean he suddenly sucks. Although i've never personally rated him as a great driver, he has deserved to have stayed in the sport for as long as he has. And i don't think he should consider the switch as a bad move at all. In a few years he'll now be able to tell his grandkids he ended his career in a Ferrari, and that (especially for an Italian) is worth his weight in gold.
And for the record, i never thought you smelt of elderberries.
@ Shotglass, either way he's well and truly in the shit with this one, unless he's done a deal with the FIA for immunity. I guess from a legal point of view as long as he tells the truth in that statement then he's ok-ish, but, by the very actions he's referring to, he hasn't "ensured the fairness and legitimacy of the Championship". It's a tricky one for sure, but i can't see any team ever wanting to employ him after this, unless his dad buys him a team.
Ultimately, as you say, he's just ended up looking like a spineless idiot, and someone who had so little confidence in his own abilities he thought doing something like this would be the only way he could keep a seat in F1. It's really really sad.
I've been an avid fan of F1 since the late 70's and this sort of thing has never happened before, it's never even been mentioned in the pitlane rumour mill. It is potentially far far more serious than any spygate McFezza scandel, potentially the biggest scandel F1 has seen. And not nearly as funny as Maxie getting his arse spanked by the bunny girl branch of the Hitler youth.
