The speedo doesn't represent an accurate speed when you're breaking heavily. If you locked up one of your rears, the speedo can drop rapidly without the car actually slowing. LFS's pitlane speed limit detection is generally pretty great, unless you're lagging really badly.

@vane: It's been sold, it's not closing. The circuit will still be operational. TOCA, the organisation that owns the BTCC were not comfortable putting Rockingham on the 2019 calendar because of the uncertainty of what the circuit's situation would be next year.

Quote from neonmateo :Just out of curiosity, how much money is worth that kind of track?

Don't quote me, because I can't find the source right now, but I read that it was up for £14m. It doesn't sound like enough for a facility of Rockingham's quality.

LFS's demo is already far too generous in my opinion.

Reason? Name one other comparable sim that offers that much content for free.

Quote from Scawen :For me, having a good life and plenty of free time to do the things I like is far more important than being rich. If being rich was a high priority there are many other jobs I could have done, and probably would have had to work 9 to 10 hours a day and only have a few holidays a year. But what's the point in that? So I could wear a fancy watch or clothes with logos on them so other people would be impressed? I don't get it. Life has to be about doing the things you like to do, not wasting money on expensive crap to show off to other fools.

Words to live by.

Quote from Scawen :Our plan is to do a small presentation in August. We want to write a little about the shadows and lighting and do some high resolution shots to illustrate.

Anyway, to thank you for being so patient, here's another medium resolution Westhill shot from a different angle in that same weather.

Again 1600x900 at this camera position:

Well. Damn. That is some incredible sheen.

For me classics are meant to be changed : no problem with this Big grin
Let's imagine Fern Bay and Kyoto a bit more designed for some corners, it would not hurt !

I'm not against subtle changes, just nothing too drastic.

Quote from Scawen :There will not be a "full Westhill" job done on every track.

I'm actually glad to hear this.

The changes you made to Westhill made the race track better, and arguably it was never really finished when you originally released it with S2. Some of the corners on the original track were in need of change when they were initially released and the changes Eric made in the most recent version are quite genius. But that said, changing any of the other track layouts too drastically now might not be smart because they are considered 'classic' tracks to many people. The visual updates and off-track features you added to Westhill would be a welcome sight if they were added to the current set of tracks, but I very much hope that there are not too many updates to the underlying track layouts that alter the flow too drastically.

Nevertheless, I am stoked to see what's new and just hope that we really will see the fruits of your labour in August.

Quote from Scawen :A couple of weeks after the release of this full version, we plan to show some images of the new track updates Eric has been working on using the new graphics system which supports specular lighting and a new shadow system.

This teasing is getting silly, you said this back in March on Twitter... Cool

But it's good to see this patch is finally going to be released.

JOOS = Join Out Of Sync
OBJS = Objects

JOOS OBJS presumably means that a layout was loading whilst players were attempting to connect, or something went out of sync whilst the layout was loading for that client.

This happens occasionally and is unlikely to be linked to this test patch.

Quote from Scawen :...we have textures that use the alpha channel to control the shine level

This has peaked my interest. Having that available for skinning eventually would be brilliant.

Quote from Scawen :That is the priority, yes.

These are the last few days of this test patch.

The full version is coming soon and I'm pleased it is more interesting (at least for some people) than simply a more robust way to connect to the master server and a fix for skin downloading.

Fair enough, thanks!

Don't think that I'm not appreciative of the layout editor updates. For Degats, Chuck and I, these sorts of changes are especially welcome, just don't want to have a repeat of the connection issues we had last month.

Nice updates and all but shouldn't the priority be to get a stable patch out with the new master server connection improvements in case you get another flurry of issues without warning?

Quote from GreyBull [CHA] :Amazing, thanks. This is a lot more fun than I expected. The way you have to feather the throttle, it feels like a 4 wheel superbikeBig grin

Nice to see how the old tracks looked like too, gotta love the retro-futuristic style of the South City breaking marks, aswell as its dodgy pitlane...

Try a lap of KY3 and check out the section before the underpass Wink

I missed the music when they first released a version without it, so much that I re-added it for nostalgic reasons. I turn music on occasionally to listen to gems like 303 Forever Tongue
