You obviously haven't raced in an XFG on the IHR server then, which is where the OP just happened to have spent most of his online races. The difference in speed between the XFG and a GTR car is so huge that there is less than a second (ONE second) between you getting the blue flag message on your screen and the GTR car flying past you, on faster parts of the track. I've done a couple of races there and I found it to be downright frightning. There is no way you can anticipate on a car coming up behind you at that speed. One instant you look in your mirror and there is absolutely nothing there, the next you get a blue flag message and before you even have time to check your mirror or map again the car flies past you. In those cases it is simply impossible to move out of the way in time and it's entirely the faster car's responsibility to overtake you safely.
Any rule that states that lapping drivers should not lose time when lapping cars is ridiculous beyond words. I understand that that is, in fact, the way many servers are run but it ridiculous nevertheless. And I can very well understand how the OP has gotten a completely wrong impression of LFS racing by racing on the IHR server.
That's not really unrealistic. I reckon most people use something along those lines, except maybe a bit more force in LFS. But I wouldn't go so far as to set restrictions on the FFB values, although one might argue that that, too, can give you an advantage. But I think that may be taking it a bit far
Yes It's no different from disallowing people with a certain rank to drive a particular car (eg. LR Race Center, IronHorse Racing etc...) or disallowing chase cam. I find it funny that some people always throw a fit and play the "discrimination" card when stuff like this is suggested; people are being "discriminated" against all the time in LFS. Except not really, just in the eyes of some people when they see fit.
I'll just comment on this one sentence. Many people don't have the time to dedicate to a league but still like racing that's a bit more "organized" and maybe gives you a sense of achievement whenever they do have some time to race. For those people there was CTRA
I bought a ACT-Labs RS shifter. I was going for the SST but decided on the ACT-Labs because it has a sequential option.
While the SST doesn't feel silly in the way the G25 does and it actually feels very solid, it still feels unrealistic (not the same as silly) to me because of its very short travel. And I still think it looks silly, even more so than the G25 one That being said, it's definitely the better shifter, no question about it, especially if you're looking for sheer performance (ie. fast shifting) rather than a realistic feeling. But I really wanted a shifter I could use for sequential shifting as well.
I'm guessing because, depending on where on the track you are (ie. on the racing line or not) things will go off the edge of the screen at different points on the track.
Yes. But then I'm a materialistic person Lack of money can put a serious strain on a relationship, though. That being said, you don't have to be rich to have a good relationship, either. It really depends on the kind of people in the relationship.
Yes, admins make mistakes, too. They're only human, after all.
Anyway, from looking at this list it looks like you're not the cleanest racer there is.
As for the incident itself (I watched the replay), you rubbed the barriers, went wide in the chicane and there was no way the guy behind you could avoid you. Incidents like that happen a lot in that spot, it was just unlucky that LFS' buggy collision detection decided to launch you into orbit.
It seems to me you're awfully quick to point the finger at someone in case of an incident/accident and demand bans or kicks. That kind of behaviour usually doesn't sit well with admins.
And, in the end (it's been said countless times before): it's their server, they can do whatever they want to whomever they want when they want for whatever reason. Racing on any server is a privilege granted to you by that server's admin (the people who pay for that server), it's not a right.
Also, did anyone notice it says "P V L 2" for account in this list? That's a different person if I'm not mistaken.
Definitely your shifter. I had (have) the same problem with mine - with 2nd gear especially - and it kept getting worse with time to the point where it was costing me positions and races very frequently. So I bought another shifter I suppose it's just a bad contact somewhere in the shifter unit but I can't be arsed to take the shifter apart; I don't know enough about that kind of stuff. Besides, the G25 shifter feels silly anyway.
I did have the problem primarily in LFS but also in other games, just a lot less frequently. I think this is because of how LFS simulates the clutch and gearbox. In most other games you can shift without using the clutch, even if you've got "manual clutch" selected in options. So when the shifter "pops" out and in again in a fraction of a second you won't notice it in other games, but in LFS it's enough to put the car in neutral as you can't shift back in gear without pressing the clutch again.
You probably mean RSR. They had their hayday shortly after CTRA closed down; apparently their server was very popular for a while. I guess people just stopped driving there after the "novelty" wore off, like they usually do
I think there are distance markers on every track, no? That's what I always use anyway (I think). I never really paid much attention to which reference points I usually use, it just comes with practise I guess
Well there ya have it, you're basically saying I should revert to using paddles + auto-clutch and a ridiculously low wheel rotation to stay competitive. And that's a darn shame, IMO.
That's quite a cockpit you've got there petervsp! I wonder how you analog handbrake works in LFS, though, as I always thought that LFS doesn't support analog controls for the handbrake. It's either on or off, no?
How nice of you, I was just about to say the same thing You don't have to be fast and you can be sure that everyone there will treat you with respect and help you when asked, as long as you're not a numptie, which I don't believe voight is
Server is most busy between 7pm and 10pm GMT. This week's combo might not be for the inexperienced driver, though. FZ5 @ SO Long
