I was thinking the same thing just the other day. Consolidation of LFS servers would concentrate the community and possibly filter out the crackers, but it might also channel them towards servers with genuine, rule-abiding racers too.
The cure may be worse than the disease :/
Going by my own personal experience, I don't think that's true at all. My demo FBM pb was set on a monitor pre-VR, granted, but although I haven't beaten it yet, my ab is climbing steadily and I get 12s more and more regularly.
You might have noticed a marked improvement in my performance on your S2 servers (or you may not have, I won't take offense ), and that is mostly to do with being able to see trouble coming and staying away from it.
Also, as I said before, VR makes sim-car control more intuitive, in a similar way to force-feedback. Better control = faster laps.
I should add that I am somewhat of a freak - I rarely suffer from any kind of motion-sickness or discomfort at all, unless you count the condensation droplets that gather in the bottom of the housing and then drip on your upper lip when you're least expecting it. I'm quite comfortable in there for hours. Unless I need to type. Anything. At all.
Okay, so touch-typing would be a good thing to learn, but yeah... the non-awareness of reality is really my only problem with it.
I have an i5 coupled with a GTX660 - in LFS that's good for about 250fps on BL1. It'll drop to 100 on Westhill, but that's understandable. It's never fallen under the 75hz (DK2 refresh) mark. I might think about upgrading to a 970 next year, but a lot will depend on game developers and the direction they decide to take.
I've been racing using a DK2 for about a year now, and believe me, once you get used to it, going back to a screen is really very difficult. VR makes driving so much more intuitive, and it's been a massive help to me in improving my drifting. Having the ability to look in the direction of a drift, no matter where your steering is pointing, makes a huge difference.
I'm a little bit disappointed that LFS is still the only racing sim (that I've played so far) that has fully implemented VR - and I'm taking about menus and everything here, not just the driving. On the plus-side, it keeps me coming back to LFS...
So, all I can assume then is that you have pictures of the sides of the car which you are hesitant to share, for some reason...
Sorry, but this job is shaping up as a major ****-around, and it hasn't even started yet.
I think you need to go back, read the skin request guidelines properly, and then adjust your approach, because expecting someone to expend their time and effort when you seem unwilling to do either for your own benefit is kinda insulting.
Can you please not? It's obvious from the screenshot that the guy has a hacked copy of LFS, and now he has the audacity to rely on handouts from people who have actually supported the game and community.
It seems he hasn't learnt from his last acct getting banned for posting licensed content. Just ignore him...
Hey Texpelt88 - if you're looking for logos http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/ is pretty good - most of them come as vector eps files, so they're infinitely scalable without any drop in quality.
I'm pretty sure you won't be able to open eps' in Paint, and not 100% sure about gimp either tbh, but even the preview jpgs they have would be usable in most cases...
why does a DEMO Racer uses sky textures for Westhill? bcause crack player!
I'm sorry, but where's the proof of that? Where did he say he was using them? He might just have looked at the pictures attached above and given his opinion based on that...
[edit] I saw a video that he posted of drifting at Fern Bay which kinda ruins his case, but calling him out based on the evidence above is pretty weak...
Under 'info' in the pit screen, there's a set of RGB sliders - some cars have a second set that affects the bonnet and mudguards' colours. Play with those until you get a colour you like. Note that it works best with black and white skins - other colours may have unexpected results.
If the default white skin doesn't show in your list, you may need to add a new colour scheme and select 'default' from the list of skins that appear.
Personally, I stopped using them to host my pics a long time ago. I kept getting angry posts from other forum users claiming that I was linking them to malware sites.
I've been using Imgur ever since, and it works really well. The community is pretty hilarious too
Whenever I try to view anyone's links to their images on Imageshack, all I get is a video promoting Imageshack's new-and-improved service. It's been like this for months now and I'm yet to see anything other than this stupid video. Editing the url has no effect, neither does clicking on their home links.
Anyone else getting this? If so, is there any way to get around or past it to view the images?
I feel like I'm missing about 50% of the content on these forums, just because Imageshack's promotional activities seem more important to them than providing the actual service that you go there for...
What you are experiencing is not lag. It's just low framerate caused by trying to use graphics settings higher than what your computer can handle.
Go to your graphics options, and switch everything to 'off' or 'low', especially shadows and anti-aliasing, then see how it runs.
If your framerate seems ok, go back to the options and switch things on one at a time, going back to the game in between each change to see if the option you have changed has affected the framerate.
Changing the option to download hi-res skins (1024) to lo-res (512) can also have an effect, as the GPU won't need to load as much texture data into the Vram.
FYI: Lag is the effect of a driver with high ping on an online server. They'll appear to 'teleport' from place to place, or they may appear to be swerving off the track, only to reappear on the track again every few seconds. This is because the position information sent from their computer over the internet is taking longer to update due to their connection being slowed by either their location relative to the server, or by another application running on their computer which is also trying to use their bandwidth. The server tries to approximate their position on the track, but if the driver adjusts their line or speed, the server won't update that info until it receives the new packet a few fractions of a second later.
Unfortunately, the small knock you gave the driver who went wide meant that it wasn't a legit pass. If it hadn't happened in the very first corner it would have meant that you would have needed to surrender the place you gained from it.
