Don't get me wrong - I understand the pain of high ping, but what they are talking about there is lag-spikes. I've seen drivers with perfectly good ping who also happen to jitter. It can be caused by sudden movements, other apps, or faulty equipment even.
Lag spikes, on the other hand, no-one should have to deal with. The disappearing/reappearing thing is annoying and frustrating for everyone.
I've raced for some time on Cargame in the last few years, and although my ping has raised a few eyebrows, it very rarely causes me or anyone else any problems - The CG crew have certainly never kicked me, let alone threatened to kick me for it.
I think the key is to be aware of the problems that high ping causes, and simply avoid them. Don't make sudden movements, try not to drift around corners during close races, leave enough space for other cars to pass safely, and don't actively fight for positions that you know you won't get.
To be kicked from Cargame, you really do need to be causing quite a lot of drama, from what I've seen...
Dawesdust, you have no experience in VR, most of your statements seem to have little-to-no basis in fact, and you rely on sensationalism and overstatement to put your opinions above others who have more experience and knowledge than you.
If you ever were to make a valid point, no-one would see it because of the torrent of utter rubbish that cascades throughout your posts.
You can start an AI-only race in single player, but then enter the editor and place objects while the AI continue to race. The addition of a few 'surprise jumps' really spices things up a bit
edit: I should add that you need to start with a standard circuit that AI are happy to race on.
Sorry, my fault - not being able to see your pictures, and your choice of words led me to believe you wanted a skin 'rendered' in 3D software, which is why I sent you here...
this section is the one you want to use for skin requests.
There a couple of things wrong here: 1, your links are broken so we can't see your skin, and 2, you should be posting requests for renders in the 3D Renders section. There are lots of other threads in that section on the subject of rendering too, if you wanted to have a try yourself.
It would definitely need to be 32bit format - Targa (.tga) files would work for that. The alternative would be to have a seperate jpg for effects, and some sort of naming system to tie the files together - that way you could use one channel for shine/specular, one for bump mapping, and another for some other effect, materials maybe. I believe AC does it this way, or something similar...
Anyway, now all the shaders are written by me and in HLSL, it allows the possibility of writing new shaders to allow new types of shadow and of course many other effects in future.
So there's a possibility for specular/shine maps in the near future? This would make a lot of skin artists very happy
i'm lazy and can't be bothered using search - can someone type it all here for me? btw, I'm too lazy to read as well, otherwise I would have figured this out for myself.
AutoCross track on demo, stolen skin, worst edit possible, deleted the "SKIN BY BURN" on top-right, next to the roof and the upper trunk. Nothing else to say, ma' cracker boy
Actually, anyone can drive around in the BL carpark, and there are no signs of any layout objects used. I agree about the skin theft - very clumsy attempt - but honestly, you need to get your facts straight before tearing into somebody and accusing them of being a cracker.
Gotta say; thanks Scawen, for being the most onto-it developer out there. No exaggeration whatsoever! LFS is the only finished game, racing or otherwise, that works seamlessly in VR, and perfectly every time. Never any loose ends
Elite: Dangerous was a close contender, up until the point they told everyone not to upgrade to Win10 and the latest SDK or else they could suck it. They won't be doing any more VR updates until Oculus releases the V1.0 SDK, so I can't/don't play it any more, and might not ever again, given their attitude.
Just out of interest, what's the Vive's SDK version at, and when do they predict their V1.0 will be ready?
Unless you want to get that close to your competitors' cars, the only car you need in 4096 is your own, and even then, pretty much only in single-seaters as you're closer to visible bodywork - and you don't need to upload that particular file. So, no - unnecessary imo.
People could still share 4096 versions of their skins for people to download and install themselves if they want to, so same effect in any eventuality.
Sorry for the bump, I only just found out about this
JPG format (use the .JPG extension)
car skin dimensions, minimum / maximum : 1024*1024 / 2048*2048 pixels
helmet skin dimensions, minimum / maximum : 512*512 / 1024*1024 pixels
the uploaded original may be no bigger than 1.5MB
Big up the ScaViEr - always pashing the antelope! Hoorah!
I was thinking the same thing just the other day. Consolidation of LFS servers would concentrate the community and possibly filter out the crackers, but it might also channel them towards servers with genuine, rule-abiding racers too.
The cure may be worse than the disease :/
Everyone with such a device up to now is slower concerning racing compared to an old fashioned monitor. Until proven otherwise it doesn't work and it cannot replace a monitor or multi monitor setup. Probably funny to cruise around but thats about it.
Going by my own personal experience, I don't think that's true at all. My demo FBM pb was set on a monitor pre-VR, granted, but although I haven't beaten it yet, my ab is climbing steadily and I get 12s more and more regularly.
You might have noticed a marked improvement in my performance on your S2 servers (or you may not have, I won't take offense ), and that is mostly to do with being able to see trouble coming and staying away from it.
Also, as I said before, VR makes sim-car control more intuitive, in a similar way to force-feedback. Better control = faster laps.
I should add that I am somewhat of a freak - I rarely suffer from any kind of motion-sickness or discomfort at all, unless you count the condensation droplets that gather in the bottom of the housing and then drip on your upper lip when you're least expecting it. I'm quite comfortable in there for hours. Unless I need to type. Anything. At all.
Okay, so touch-typing would be a good thing to learn, but yeah... the non-awareness of reality is really my only problem with it.
