Nice renders, but the odd scaling of the different cars ruins it a little bit for me...

It would be nice to see a render where all the cars have been placed in the same scene, so that they show in each others' reflections, but I'm assuming you've done it this way to cut down on rendering overheads and time?

If you're not averse to some advice, one possibility I could suggest is placing the cars in the same scene and framing the shot, and then hiding all but one of the cars for each render in turn, and then compositing them all back together once done. This would keep the scale and positioning constant and realistic. It wouldn't have the realistic reflections of the other cars though, but it would make the render times a little more manageable maybe.

Also, look into rendering Alpha channels when rendering the main image - most rendering software will do them at the same time, incorporated into the image as a 4th channel, or as a separate file. They take all of the headache out of clearcutting, and make semi-transparent parts such as windows much easier to deal with. It would also help to avoid that hard edge that shows where the floor ends in each rendered image when comping them together.

Quote from dasilva94 :...does over 18 months without a single change constitute 'active development'?

If you're going to try to argue a point, try not to exaggerate easily check-able facts. New Version 0.6R - Blackwood Update, Sun 29 Jan 2017

Also, the time taken to produce a watchable youtube video is time better spent on actual development, don't you think?

You're talking about someone else's work like you have some sort of shared ownership of it. Uh-hu

Yes, it really is! And for LFS you don't need a super-machine to run it - my i5 coupled with a GTX660 was more than enough for perfect results on the Oculus DK2.

@Aw3som3G4m3rzYT: Single player races against a single car are good for training. But don't try to 'race' them. Challenge yourself to stay as close behind them as you can at all times. This will start to give you an idea of where you can improve things like braking points, corner entry, momentum preservation and acceleration points. As you improve, you will start to find places where you will be able to out-drive your opponent and gain advantages.

Did you get touch controllers with your CV1? I have to say, it's a huge changeup over using an xbox controller. If you haven't already, I highly recommend you get a set. They're incredible.

I'd say that none of those 90 people are using the same technique for connection.

It sounds like the wifi connection might be weaker than your phone's 4G connection, and the server is refusing the connection based on high ping. I don't know if there's any way to reliably test wifi signal to your device, but if it is possible, you might want to try it and see.

Failing that, I recommend investing in a long ethernet cable.

I'll hit 217 at the end of the main straight consistently, but my setup's gearing is tailored toward exploiting slipstreams as much as possible. With a perfectly executed 2-car draft I can hit 226 before braking for the corner. If I wound 6th gear down a bit I'd hit 218 easily, but I wouldn't have anything extra for overtaking.

Over Christmas, my dad found a box full of slides that haven't seen the light of day since he came to live in New Zealand almost 50 years ago. A few of the smaller cases packed in the box contained photographs of some of his racing exploits from Australia and New Zealand in the 1960s. Every slide came with a story, and we spent most of a night going through just a couple of cases.

I'm going to be giving him my transparency scanner so that he can digitize his collection properly, but in the meantime, I took a few shots with my phone as we went through them. They're a bit soft, the projector should have had a really good dusting beforehand, and the dining-room blinds weren't an optimal screen, but one day soon we'll rectify all of these small problems.

The 34 car is my dad, the number 20 car it's next to in one of the photos is his mate, Des. They drove together as Team Fair Deal Motors for a number of years.

Until we get some high-res pictures organised, I hope you all enjoy looking through this small sample of motor-racing nostalgia.

Wikipedia: Herbie

This might be a bit gutting for you, but please don't be discouraged - there is a problem with your skins, in that when they are applied to the car they get stretched out by about 20-30%, so the circles turn into ovals.

You can correct this by reading JazzOn's excellent thread on the stretching of skins here:

https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/64975-The-Stretching-of-Skins

Once you have edited your skins, you can re-edit your posts with the corrected files and bring much joy to the Herbie fans of the world - myself included Smile

If you can find a second (or third) hand G27, I would recommend it. I've had mine for almost a decade and it's still going strong. The only maintenance I've had to do on it was cleaning the pedal potentiometers with some contact cleaner, and they've worked flawlessly ever since.

Lujaka: have you contacted the devs about this?

https://www.lfs.net/mailus

They'll be happy to track down your order and sort out your license, but I wouldn't hold out much hope for a refund - it's very much a caveat emptor situation. In other words, this isn't Steam...

My server-sitter runs on a Pentium Dual E2180 @ 2GHz with 4gb of DDR2 and a 9800GTX GPU running Win7 64bit - still gets 100fps at best, but drops to 20ish when the server is full and everyone is fighting for T1 Big grin

Anyway - back on topic - DemonicVampire stated that Westhill runs okay, and as far as large maps go, that one's the killer. I think it's more likely a corrupt .wld file or something along those lines, or, he has tried to keep some files from an older version of LFS which are incompatible with the latest version of Blackwood...

Being the player furthest from the servers I normally drive on, my ping is a constant 320. This doesn't appear to have any effect whatsoever on any of the other drivers on the server, or their performance. A player with a ping of 60 looks just as you'd expect, with no jumping or swerving. My appearance does, although I try to mitigate that as much as I can by driving as smoothly as possible with no sudden corrections, if I can. As far as I know, my connection's performance has never affected anyone else's connection to the server. They continue to be updated by the server every 60ms without fail.
The few times I have seen massive lag affecting all players is when the our server provider is having connection problems, which I'm happy to say, have been sorted out within minutes of a ticket being sent - big thanks to the Rackservice support crew (unsolicited testimonial, but hey, they do an excellent job in my honest opinion).
