That looks so good! Thanks for that Smile

I've always wondered what some of my weirder skins would look like rendered...

So shiny! Cool

If you're not done with FXRs yet, would you mind throwing this on it to see how it looks?

Cheeky, I know. Big grin Don't sweat it if you have other things to do.

Yes, I do like it!

There's a few rough edges, but nothing a few higher res bitmaps couldn't fix. You could also try breaking certain parts out to vary their shininess too (looking at those carbon-fibre bits in particular)...

Looking forward to seeing more Smile

Quote from daftKow :4. Would love to eventually get a VR setup; or maybe a 3 screen setup. Does this require a lot of computer power? I'm trying to find what are recommended specs for a 3 screen or VR setup; it's difficult to find any feedback! Any would be appreciated.

Hi daftKow - welcome to the forum.

I can't comment on the 3-screen setup, but I'd suspect it would need far more power to run than a VR headset. I myself have been happily running an Oculus Rift DK2 on an i5-4590 with a GTX660 video card without any problems (no overclocking either). It plays other VR compatible race sims without complaint too.

My headset recently bricked itself, and I've had to go back to driving on a screen - it's so difficult! There's a whole lot of directional feedback that comes in directly through your neck and eyes that is totally missing on a flat screen. I could compare it to having your steering force-feedback switched off - it's that dramatically different.

Luckily the price of the Oculus is falling quite rapidly right now, so I'll definitely be investing in another soon Smile

So it is real-world constraints that prevent racing in the opposing direction irl, but fatal accidents don't factor in game/sim life, other than your leaderboard standing. which is why I'm thinking it might be exploits, which are hard to do on an oval...

tbh, I've don't think i've ever driven R'ham in reverse now i've thought about it, so I wouldn't really know... Big grin

Maybe they only digitised it while only going in one direction? XD

Quote from PlSTOL :yes, it makes sense, but due LFS has already an Oval track I was wondering why they haven´t added that INV option in Oval - Rockingham too so on the others Rockingham traces, after all it is just a game... pity.

I see what you mean, true - the oval at least should run both ways. Excluding the oval, i was thinking it could be that as R'ham is a real-world circuit, Eric hasn't had the luxury of being able to remove exploits that become available in reverse layouts, maybe?

It has to do with the side of the car that the driver sits on - for safety, they try to design the fastest sections of the track with the track barriers on the opposite side from where the driver sits.

To use oval-racing as the clearest example; in Nascar they go anticlockwise which puts the left-handed drivers' position on the inside of the track - in Auscar, the drivers are sitting on the right so they race clockwise.

On tracks where an infield circuit connects to a super-speedway, the direction of the super speedway section generally dictates the direction of racing.

Sounds like a corrupted installation file - try downloading the installer again, and when prompted for a location, make the path C:\games\LFS or something similar rather than using the default program files folder. It seems to work better this way.

Quote from BeNoM :By using common sense, the term 'hacks' = tweaks on this forum.

If Speedtron had used common sense, they would have used the search function and taken some time to read a few other threads before posting. This would have showed them that there is a vast difference between tweaks and hacks, and that telling everyone on this forum that you happily use hacks is the internet equivalent of swimming in shark-infested waters in a wetsuit made of raw meat.

Quote from Racer X NZ :Maybe it's a retro 1980 thing. https://youtu.be/rbeMk0fWfvk

Their whole image/style is mid-80's Thrash/Speed Metal - so the cassette was meant to evoke memories of that golden age in peoples' minds.

Not sure if trolling, or genuinely doesn't know... Uh-hu

The term 'racing cars' covers any car that has been modified, or built, for the purpose of racing - this includes all types of open-wheelers, GT cars, drag racers, rally cars, etc... and, of course, sports cars.

To qualify specifically as a sports car, they have to be built as if there would normally be 2 seats. Of course they only put 1 seat in it, same as any other racing car (except rally cars), but you'll notice that the seat is always set to one side of the car.

But you'll need to download the fonts that the person has used, otherwise Photoshop won't find the font it needs when you open the file, and it'll switch out for a default font like Arial.

So like I said earlier - If you're needing to download the fonts anyway, then you might as well just build it from scratch yourself...

It not easy to do - most physics simulation works with what is sometime referred to as 'zero-point calculation'. This means that the world and all of the action taking place is contained in an easily computable area. The further away from the zero-point you get, the more unpredictable and slower the physics become - hence the max-size restrictions given in other moddable sims.

Open world physics have to work in different ways, as the distances involved wouldn't work with a fixed zero-point, and it's probably also the reason the cars in open-world games are utter pigs to drive...

Disclaimer: I'm not a programmer, and I don't really have any idea how Scawen has coded his engine. This is only a simple breakdown of the systems from other sims that I've attempted making tracks for...

If you cycle through the different views using 'V', you will find one view that isn't in-car, or a chase view, or helicopter, or a spectator/TV view.

Using the camera position sliders in Options/view, you can make this view whatever you want, from wherever you want (within reason - you can only move a certain distance away from the car).

Note that you have to be in the car, and in this view, to change the settings. It will only save this view setting for the particular make of car you are driving at the time. If you drive a different car, the custom view will be different for that make of car until you change it.

This is already happening, and not just random youtubers either - dedicated Sim racing channels have been singing LFS's praises for years.

There was a resurgence a couple of years back with the advent of VR, when LFS was making headlines because of its seamless VR integration, but since then it's calmed back down.

Until something substantial in the way of updates comes along, there's no point throwing money at promotion. For now, at least...

Unless you have an all-consuming desire to drive at Rockingham, there isn't a lot of incentive to upgrade to S3 at this time. Most S3 purchases have been on the basis that there is more content on the way.

Sadly, upgrading your license isn't going to fix the lack of racing servers. B2R has some excellent S2 open competition on weekends, and there are still a number of teams running their own events (some of these may be hidden from the public server list).

Of course, there's always plenty happening on the demo servers Big grin
