That's much better, thank you.

I'll start by giving you an F08 and if I have time possibly and FZR too.

Do you have a much bigger example of the 3d logo? the jpg in the corner of the pages is far too small to become a major feature of a skin, end the .eps files available through the brands of the world site don't have the 3d bevelled appearance of the logo on the logitech site?

As for master skinnerz, well it's emphasis is on providing the support, resources and encouragement necessary to help people make their own skins. A full set of skins is a huge job given that there are so many different car shapes that any design needs to be adapted to. Some of the MSz members take commissions but very few if any will do a whole set because of the amount of work involved. That and the fact that so many requests are made for full skin sets are probably the reasons your thread on that board got ignored.

Don't wanna put you off but my "entry level" SLR the Canon 350D cost me £800 with body 18-58mm Canon kit lens and 1gb CF card. [10 months ago]

Realistically I'd say save your £130 and keep saving until you can add a minimum of another £120 to it, particuarly if you want something with a reasonably quick lens.

Before you buy go to a camera shop and get a demo, play with a few different models, then go home find them on the web and go back to the shop and ask for a price match, buying retail means you've got a real person to take it back to if it should screw up...

Don't focus on the pixel output...a 20mp camera with a cheap lens and a crappy colour sensor is still going to take a crappy picture... that's why you try before you buy and ask if you can see the photos on a monitor or paper and not just on the screen on the back of the camera.

I'd only buy something like a camera online if it was considerably cheaper and I couldn't find a retailer prepared to price match it.

Driving offline is only ever gonna teach you where the quickest lines and the braking points are, even slow racers like me can beat the AI frieght train.

I'd say you need to get online where you've got to be taking account and sometimes advantage of other people's mistakes. As often as not your perfect lap goes out of the window because you can't drive through somebody else.

I've no doubt you'll cause a few accidents however much you practice before you play online, and I've no doubt you'll continue to do so from time to time for as long as you play the game. So does everyone else, so don't worry about it, get out there and meet some people and make some friends, I suspect you'll have a whole lot more fun that way

Quote from Slopi :What's the best way to go about finding a team, or a casual group of people to race with? I'm about fed up with public servers and the non-stop BF1 crap, and this is about the last thing I can think of to keep this game fresh for me.

I see what looks like team servers all over the place, but they are usually empty. I also see members from teams on some public servers, but most of them won't give you the time of day unless you have some 'ubar' skin or something...

So, if anyone knows how to go about this or is part of a casual/hardcore racing team that knows to brake at turn 1.... please let me know, I'd like to continue to play this game

Think I bumped into you last night... to be fair the server we were on did have a real mixture of abilities... if you were to try one of the restricted combo ukct.net servers such as FE Gold fox I think you'd have more fun than last night when you did seem to be getting a bit of a rough ride.

Alternatively you could scout around....there's plenty of teams about, not all of em are aliens and not all of em have uber skins either.

Race on the pubics, bump into people and take it from there mate.. seems to me that's about the size of it.

Chris Kerry... I'm travelling from Derby and MAY be able to organise a lift for you since it looks likely that one my mates is coming to help me with the filming... it just depends whether or not he gets his suspension rebuilt in time.....if not we're all on the train....

I needed a break from starting at After Effects and Premeire all day so I made you a quick XFR skin, I'm only a very average skinner and it's only a very simple skin, still I hope it does the job....

2048_2048 version for screenshots
1024x1024 version to upload for online

Just one more thing, please no more .gifs...

As has been said, different servers, different experiences.

As as rule I find the "might is right" mentality is a lot less prevalent in LFS when compared with some of the other racing games I've played online.

Keep plugging away, for every server full of clowns who think they can drive through you, there'll be at least one more full of racers who know they have to go around you.

Good post btw, its irony amused me this grey and crappy Monday.

Quote from traxxion :It's possible this will be England - Netherlands

No problem... I shall be in a pub in front of a T.V ready to watch England beat the Dutch. In all seriousness if it does pan out that way, then that is one match I will not miss for the world [not even the LFS version]

Aryton....no I don't do this sort of thing for a living yet

I have a BA Hons in Design for digital media :- think digital graphic design with photography and film thrown in...or at least I will have my BA by next Friday....

Vidoe cameras wise I may be able to provide up to 3, the more folk who can bring one the better, if they don't mind giving me the tapes I'll edit it all up and burn it no problem.

I use a Canon 350D 8mp SLR still camera which gives me a semi-pro result, but it does have a point and shoot mode. Anyone's welcome to steal it off me and take some shots with it, since I only have two hands

Quote from Becky Rose :A rucksack wouldn't be safe. In the event of a roll a kart does not have a roll cage ... this is because of the update physics patch: The driver leaves the kart and continues on foot until forward velocity is expelled.

You would have to attach the camera entirely to the kart or an adapted helmet. If you could mount it on the nassau panel you'd be in luck.

Right I'm prepared to commit to filming it,editing the footage and producing a DVD which I will distribute for the cost of a disc and the postage. I'll also provide stills and have a night on the town with everyone. I will not be karting myself, and may need a lift from Northampton station, depending on whether or not I can con a mate into coming to hold another camera.

I may be able to get access to a "bullet cam" which could be used to shoot onboard footage from the kart itself. However most racing circuit owners get a little antsy when people mention such things, so could Aryton [who I understand knows the circuit owner] please sound him out about the use of one on his circuit.

The bullet cam is around the size of a mini maglite and plugs into a standard DV camcorder which records the footage and the sound.
What we normally do is put the DV camcorder in a car's footwell, however in the case of karting we might have to look at having the driver wear a rucksack with containing the camcorder instead. The bullet cam has to connect to the standard camcorder with a cable. I suspect that taping the cable along the kart safely and out of the driver's way would be the limiting factor.

Given that I'll be there but not driving I wonder if Tristan/Aryton could find out if I'll get charged on the gate or something?

Quote from tinvek :chose the lighter green to make it bit brighter but possably went too far

darker version attached

Much better [in my never important opinion]

I think the shade of green you have used could do with being a little darker, and I think you could do with adding a little more to your design.

I guess I'd describe what you've got there as a good start that needs a little more work...nice effort nevertheless mate.

I've had LFS 3 years yet I still can't get round SO classic in a Fox in much under 45 seconds... why? because I play this game for fun with a logitech playstation clone type controller which doesn't have force feedback, or much in the way of subtlety. Mainly I'm slow because I'm not interested in making sure I calculate the optimum fuel load to with in a fraction of a percentage point. I'm not interested in spending hours fooling with a setup to make it perfect, hell I'm not even interested in spending hours hotlapping to make sure I don't overshoot my braking point by 5cm thus turning in .0005 seconds too late for that killer lap.

No I play this game because I enjoy it. I Shift+S when I crash, I watch my mirrors, I yield to a blue flag or anyone who's much faster than me, and since I've paid my £24 just like everyone else I consider myself entitled to race anywhere that's public.

One place I don't race is the UKCT net SO Classic fox server, I'm not a big fan of the combo, I'm slow and I know I am, and it's attitudes like do 107% of the leader's time or go away which wind me up, and keep me off it.

I can see both sides of the argument, I can understand why somebody might be frustrated to be lapping back markers within 5 laps of such a short track but I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you're really really quick and you only want to race with people who are really really quick then pay for a server, password it and invite those you want to race against to it. Don't ever complain about slow drivers on public servers, they've paid their money, and as long as they obey the rules, and behave themselves they have just as much right to be there as anyone else. and yes it is as simple as that.

The famous Vroom stop motion clip made by Beko for some festival or other, basically it's karting only without the kart.... If you've never seen it then get it, it rocks.

In practice very few servers have long pauses between races, since most people playing actually want to race and will vote to restart not long after a race has completed.

The way LFS works means that even if there isn't actually a race in progress ['cos it's finished] all the players on it can still get out and drive around the track/make pit stops improve their P.B times etc etc, the only difference being that since there's no race in progress nobody's going to win after a certain number of laps have been completed.

Server admins can force restarts with a command to the server, but you won't always find them present.

As for servers you can play on...well LFS is far less ping dependent than many other games on the market [in fact its netcode is widely admired]
I'd say don't be put off by the fact that a server may be some distance from you but try it and see if you get a smooth game, if you consistently lag out then somebody's gonna let you know sooner or later.

What you really ought to do is visit the Australasian LFS community site

http://www.austraracing.com/

and get registered for their forums, once you see just how active the LFS scene is down under you'll soon be buying the full game and playing online

I can't commit that far ahead, but if I can make it then I suspect I can sort out the filming depending on how friendly the venue is and how close we can get to the track.

If I do come I'll be wanting to bring this....objections?... no?...good

Try starting LFS first and pressing Alt+Tab to stick it down on the task bar then startign Fraps...just clutching at straws, but maybe it might make a difference.

As where would the dll be? must admit I've no idea... try windows search...

Press escape> options>game and change the replay settings until it gets back to however you had it in the first place. [in my case enabled manual save]

I think doing that starts a new replay file... I'm not sure, but it doesn't start a new race.

I get lag on a 2mbps DSL connection when somebody joins a race of 10 cars or more and has quite a few skins to get.
I've also noticed choppy framerates at the same moment, which I've just attributed to lag, unless everyone turns off auto skin d/load neither of us will be any better off, since the problem occurs whenever someone joins.

If it's LFS and not FRAPS that's falling over then I'd say you have a software conflict somewhere and I'm not enough of a windoze geek to know the answer I'm afraid.

I can only suggest the usual like make sure your video card drivers are up to date etc etc...

If windows creates an error log then I suggest you post it here.
