its not something specific to Z8 or Z9, but during replays, when the lower progression bar is visible, all other information (f9 f10 f11 f12 screens) disappears. http://i39.tinypic.com/2rz6ond.jpg
It doesn't bother anyone, really, but I cant tell if its a bug or not. So, heads up

One thing that does bother me is not something specific to Z"x" either but from the beginning of s2 till now.
The asphalt markings (white lines, yellow lines etc...) suddenly pop up very close to you. You can see them loading into the track. It happens during reverse tracks. As club rev, after the chicane, for instance.
cheers.

the grip sounds now are really realistic in heavy braking into a corner. I didn't played the game since april and was surprised.
But the sound doesn't match so well when drifting... still weird as always.
The engines are good. The ITR sounds orgasmic up to 8k rpm!
Gameplay wise (speaking of timetrials only, no racing) is pretty good. I do miss the setup tweaks of LFS, making the suspension stiffer or jumpier would make me see how good it is.
Right now in time trials, If I want to reduce the oversteer from the really oversteery cars, I can only change the front tyres to worst ones.
but because we (I) play it in these big hdtv at 1.80m of distance (my cockpit) it would need way more than 4xFSAA to look "clean"
In my 40" 1080p set, it looks ACE at 3 meters, but you can see many jaggies at 1m80cm.
the replays add motion blur, more AA, depth of field, and cuts the frame rate from 60fps to 30 fps (most footage you see online is from replays).
but is good to drive, good to look at, orgasmic to listen (sounds were recorded from both the cockpit and the outside, so they are real).
well does lfs have to be played with mouse + kb, cause its a pc game? (ahah, you see what i did there? )
things are changing on console, ever since gt4 bundled with a wheel.
I found it a nice surprise with the G25, you dont feel the suspension working as much as lfs until you get to the S class and quick tune is unlocked, default setups are sucky sucky. Especially the mercedes slr.
I also loved the low speed grip. It doesn't slide or squeells like lfs. It feels so good.
GT5 uses different aproach to the hotlap system... There is no customization (although it is available in other modes of the game), so everyone drives the same setup, and thats it I think many people in this forum asked for such a feature in LFS.
The "hlvc" type system is very very very forgiving, thats why I stick to the holaps in the real tracks where there is no rails and other cheats the n00bs can use. If they decide to implement a tuff system like the one in LFS, it will be okay I guess.
no, I used automatic clutch. Yes I am driving with the G25
I can take probably 1sec from that lap, the last corner before the bridge and before the chicane were slow.
I played for 5 hours yesterday, time trial (I dont care for offline racing. I just want to evaluate the physics).
Mostly BMW M3 and F40 at susuka.
I had to use all the tricks and "know how" I had, and about 2 hours just to get 2nd spot on the world rankings for this combo. 35ms from world record.
I tell you. There are hardcore PC sim players playing this game.
This game isn't toy game. For sure Its very scalable, from the very arcade options to the very professional simulation aspect.
So driving wise, Its a sim. I have no doubt.
Racing wise, If all players drive as they should by ignoring the allowed bumper car, It can be acceptable, but shitty compared to lfs online racing aspect.
The hotlap online intergration is great! You finish a lap and a box popups telling you your place and stuff... And you can download right away the ghost image for all the top ten places on each combo. Its wonderfull
Lots of stuff missing though. fuel tyre temp etc.....
The option to choose the wheel degrees is also missing... I have trouble setting hotlap pace with 900º
Also, most of ps3 users probably have lousy net or never played online.
But when the race is lag free and people are playing with steering wheel, I can't really say that this is an arcade game. It is not, really. I can see same basic principles of a simulator in there, just not refined, or whatever.
Go into Bios, apply overclock, or reduze the default speed. Check for changes on the benchmarks and lfs.
Disable throtling on bios. If its software bottleneck, you wont notice a thing when applying or reducing speed.
Forgot to say something important. Sometimes when a computer fails to boot properly, he resets to the lowest speed possible and stays that way until you into BIOS and set the speed right. Some motherboards don't even tell you that it happened. The cpu is still recognized by its model number and you read "p4 3200mhz" but in reality he drops to 1600mhz or something.
USe cpu-z in windows to check the true speed (and please, disable throttling)
Check for AGP speed. Must be 8x (although in my tests the difference between 8x and 2x is almost nothing).
Don't keep the tests to LFS only.
try cpu benchmarks, ram benchmarks, graphics benchmarks.
Without loosing much time, using the current windows configuration, try:
superpi
everest
3dmark (try 2001 version, its dx8)
Compare the results online to see if you are close. Try to compare to the same cpu/graphics model running at the same MHZ (most of those guys are overclocked).
Write those results down on paper. They are your new standards to compare when you do the following:
Remove hardware from the system, or disable it on the motherboard Bios. Disable sound, run the benchmarks. Disable USB ports, run the benchmarks. Remove every peripheral except keyboard/mouse, run the benchmarks.
If this fails, format and try winxp with different directx (don't update to the last dx9).
These are basic diagnostic procedures you should do.
Use hiren boot cd, to ghost your c: so you don't loose time installing everything again.
I suck hard at setups. I can make a good one, but not good enough for the big stcc standards (for example).
What I know is to change the "ONE" setting I know I must have in two categories.
First I start with the suspension. I found that if the suspension is jumpy just enough, I have good grip by default. So i just make it jumpy-ish.
Then, without tweaking anything else on the suspension, I go to the tires and apply what i know it works. Camber and pressures.
After these 3 basis I try the car and I start to tweak the suspension and tyres in order to give me oversteer or understeer, without the tyres burning up. You know. Softer rear suspension than the front = understeer etc etc.
To gain the extra 1 or 2 seconds, is where I fail completelly and proud of it! the ones that lose to me in a race are losing to a sucky setup but good driver
i say they are not idiots but underage guys without license to drive a car in real life. Perhaps pretending to be grown ups. I can see why they think its fun.
And some grown ups just go there to chill, but i'm sure they are a very small minority.
all in all, like you said, cruising servers are always full and race servers are empty. These days I login to LFS, I browse the servers, I stare at my 250€ G25, and leave again because no ppl racing, just cruising.
