It can be annoying but it really isn't a big deal, if your wheel is broken because this happened one time then I'd consider it a problem with your wheel, take it back and get it replaced.
You simply can't control everything that other people do, not everyone takes sim-racing so seriously and you've gotta respect that. Some guys just like to have a bit of fun or let off some steam after a race.

For me at least trying to practice online is futile, not implying that races are filled with wreckers but there's just too many distractions and the races aren't long enough. The AAL runs races at least an hour long so I practice in stints the same length that I plan to run in the race so I can determine my best pace to run, factoring in fuel use and tyre wear.
I share a lot of your feelings about things Tweak and would like to get online more but I might get 5 hours a week to race which makes it hard. Also doesn't help that the AAL is so competitive

Advantage1 pedals, somewhat simple in design but made entirely of steel and very very strong. These won't be breaking in a hurry

Mine's pretty predictable, if memory serves me it was HRT Shaun who did the render

I've been racing in the AAL since it first began as an offshoot of the Endurance League, can't remember now but that'd be 1-1.5 years ago.
I like it but sometimes wonder if you lose part of the fun when racing competitively. When I first played S1 I'd race online most nights for an hour or two, nowadays rather than regularly racing online I'll be practicing offline and only racing online in league races.

Hearing about how hard it is to get things going in the States I think we're pretty lucky here in Oz. Great community and high participation with 60 or more racers per event ranging from WR holders to those who just want a bit of fun.

Anyway I'd recommend league racing to anyone, no doubt it's where all the best racing takes place within LFS.

Maybe something similar to the wrong way kick that we have, if a racer is on track with a car that's not available they get a warning message and after a few seconds they're kicked from the server.

Till something like this is implemented just vote-kick them, no harm done.

Quote from geeman1 :Tiny was maybe a little wrong word here, but any way you don't have to press the clutch all the way anyway. About half way maybe, when I used manual clutch I just pressed the clutch as fast as I could, so it's hard to tell how fully it went. Only thing I am sure of is that it's a lot faster to use manual clutch than autoclutch, because the autoclutch is really slow.

More like about 80-90% seems to depend on whether you've shifted gear or not before depressing the clutch. Your right about all the rest though, it is faster but that's the reward for doing it all yourself which takes extra skill and effort

Quote from geeman1 :You can actually shift faster with manual clutch by just only hitting the clutch a really tiny amount

Your wrong here, as long as I've been playing with a clutch pedal you've needed to fully depress the clutch to change gear. That's the most common cause of a miss shift for me, not depressing the clutch far enough and ending up in neutral.
Maybe there's some setting I don't know about but this is how it is afaik.

btw, sequential shifter, manual clutch, all aids off

They are definately better than plain old socks, neoprene socks will probably be almost as good but then they don't come with a nice LFS logo on them do they?
Anyway with all the negativity in this thread and bagging dE being the 'in thing' these days I just wanted to say that I like them and I'm glad I bought a pair, that's all

btw, dE certainly have/had their problems with customer service but as far as their products are concerned they're top class, I also have an LFS polo and it's very nice and very good quality.

I take it everyone here bagging sim sox have never used a pair?
I always wear mine when I race, that says it all for me.

Maybe what your attempting is a little bit too ambitious. The only timed race with a driver change I've raced in was in a well established league (AAL) which regularly gets 60 or more racers per round. There's a lot more involved with these sorts of races, mainly with finding a partner and having a set you both are happy with and also depending on the length of race there's being able to set aside the time required.
It's a good idea but the level of commitment is pretty high compared to even a normal league race, maybe start a bit smaller and simpler and work up to it. We (I'm an AAL admin) have had just the one 3hr race with driver swaps (compared to fortnightly 1-1.5 hr races) and while everyone really enjoyed it we'll probably only run one once every couple of months because of the huge effort it takes from everyone.

I think unless you have a significant overlap the onus is on you not to take out the leading cars rear quarter. Of course if you're the leading car and someone is close behind then it often pays to take a slightly wider line to be on the safe side but you shouldn't have to always be doing this because people are too ambitious when overtaking.

Just flat out lie
"oh you mean need for speed?"
"yeah it's the new need for speed called live for speed, PD aren't allowed to port GT4 to pc so they secretly worked with Codies to create a new game you can only download from the net. It's really exclusive like and is guaranteed 10x more realistic than GT4. Just keep it quiet, they don't want Sony to find out so your only allowed to tell other really cool people like you"
"OMG I want it"
"Just remember if you tell anyone about it and they say 'oh, you mean need for speed?' that's actually like a code word so you know that they're not a Sony double agent "

Quote from Gabkicks :i dont think its really that much off from real life. i see the same stuff happening in super GT. the only reason alot of people dont drive as close is simply an issue of skill mostly...

I tend to agree, I couldn't say if it is completely right, I suspect it isn't but recently I was in some FOX races at BL1 and I could stay close to a leading car through corners just by adjusting for the loss of grip.

I liked it from the first time I drove it, lots of fast flowing corners where you gotta get on the power early, the reverse config is also quite good, had a really good 3hr race with driver changes on the reverse config.

Yeah and by playing online with S2 rather than the demo they got to see what the community is really like

I gotta agree with Vykos, this subject comes up regularly and there just isn't any real solution to this problem.

Even if your not flatshifting your better off turning throttle cut off and lifting the throttle on upshifts yourself. It's not hard to learn and once your good at it I'm pretty sure it is faster.
Throttle blip is a bit different, most people will probably want to leave this on unless you left foot brake and can blip the throttle yourself while downshifting. Similarly if you know how to heel-toe.

I flatshift in those cars that will allow it in LFS, I don't see much reason not to, those that will suffer from engine damage I manually lift on upshift.

Personally I think it's a bit of a falacy that slower cars will produce closer racing. In my experience I find that mistakes in the slower cars are more costly and your chances of re-catching someone of similar skill is less likely.
I also don't think it's right to consider close dicing as the be all and end all of racing, maybe in short sprints but in longer races there generally isn't as much dicing but so many other factors start to come into the race.

So far I've found the LX6 easier to drive than the LX4, it could just be the setups I've used but the LX6 being a bit heavier feels more stable to me. I figure the reason people find the LX6 harder is they don't have good enough throttle control. The LX4 is the real drivers car imo.

I'm with Unforgiven, car reset is one of those things that greatly improves the playability of LFS and I don't see much reason to even allow it to be disabled server side.

Quote from vpr01 :but to get any kind of enjoyment out of it you do really need a wheel.

Why do you say this? It's quite obvious that many many people get a great deal of enjoyment out of playing LFS without owning a wheel. Good on them and thanks to the devs for having the foresight to allow anyone with a PC to play LFS.

I think the thread starter has a certain point, when rFactor first came out and I saw some screenshots of it I immediately knew it was a game developed in America. Just something about the hud and the flashy nature of the graphics I think.
I think there's something to be said for LFS being developed by Europeans, not to intimate that that makes it superior but just that it brings a certain feel to the game. For one thing I'm not sure we'd have a car like the GTi if it were developed by Americans and even though I don't particularly like it I know many many people love it.

btw apples and oranges can be compared quite easily, it's just a matter of whether it achieves anything
