I would have thought come S3 something like a F1 car would be only natural. I can't see any real reason not to include one at some point, in S1 we had the LX6, in S2 we've got the FO8, in S3 it'll be something else.
This is a necessary rule and it's not hard to enforce in a league even without reviewing replays, if a driver is blocking unfairly down a straight other drivers will soon bring it to the attention of admins.
I am an admin for the AAL and this is very important that we have the ability for disconnected racers to be able to rejoin from the pits on the same lap that they were disconnected. It is not an issue of fairness as they will always lose some time even rejoining on the same lap. We are running a 3hr event next week with a compulsory driver change, dealing with disconnected racers is going to be a major headache.
It is possible in other sims but of course I don't know how difficult it would be to implement in LFS but if any devs read this then please at least consider this as it would help us a great deal.
These settings are actually quite bad despite what most people will tell you, spring and damper do not add anything and setting them to zero will only remove forces generated by LFS. Try putting both spring and damper to the defaults of 100% and see how it feels, I suspect you will start feeling more forces along the lines of what you expected in the beginning. Once when I tried setting damper and spring to 0% as recommended by others it simply felt like most of the forces were removed. I started looking into it and couldn't find any proof that they should be set to 0%, it's mainly a leftover from older titles like GPL which don't relate to modern titles like LFS much at all. You'll notice most people using such settings ramp up the strength in LFS to compensate.
If it still doesn't feel quite right then fiddle with the settings to find a balance that you like. The one thing I must stress is that when it comes to ffb do not rely on other people to tell you what is right, even me
Send off an email to the devs via the address on the homepage, if you can explain what happened to Vic he'll probably help you out.
btw I really have no idea of what you've done or how you could find yourself in this position, your posts are really quite confusing. If you do email the devs you might want to write something that's more coherent, in fact that would also help a great deal when posting here.
I've been playing games for about 20 years now, all types but since I started playing LFS I've stopped playing most other games and nowadays I barely play anything else. Last game I played was GTA San Adreas which was great but then S2 was released and I haven't touched it since
For two years I used the wheels view but started using cockpit view in S2 purely because of the open wheelers and not wanting to switch the default view back and forth all the time. There's really no difference between the two apart from one having a 3d model blocking most of your view, realistic in one sense, unrealistic in another.
How intelligent is the repair process though? If getting any sort of minor damage results in the same time penalty in the pits then that line of reasoning is bogus and we should have the option to disable repairs.
Going by the little flag next to your nick you're an aussie, I believe one of the optus servers is now permanently setup for the road going cars, LX4 down iirc.
The thing about people driving the faster cars is that many of us have driven the low powered cars to death through S1, slicks and downforce are the new things to play with and there are also many people who just don't like low powered cars.
I wouldn't mind seeing the dedi server setup to only allow either slick or road tyred cars, might reduce the number of servers with all cars and provide a bit more variety.
Quickest and easiest way to see if the master server is down is to go to LFS world and open the Home window. If there is a sudden fall in the numbers on the graph or is shows no racers online whatsoever then it's down
If your getting oscillation then it's more than likely that your strength settings are too high. I get no oscillation and when I push the brakes whilst standing still the ffb acts as it should.
LFS doesn't need anymore adjustment to the ffb other than strength, first off because of the aforementioned method it uses to generate forces and secondly because you can make adjustments in the control panel for your wheel (well at least logitech models, not sure about others).
70% may also be a bit too much bias towards the front for the rear engined FZR. Not saying that turning too much whilst still braking isn't also the cause but that it's probably a combination of the two. Unless your having trouble with the rear locking up and trying to bring itself around then I'd look at something more along the lines of 65%. Typically my FZR setups are around 63-65%, with no engine at the front the front tyres will be more likely to lock than say in the XRR so more rear bias should be used in general.
I can't really help you much with setup stuff but I think with RWD and in particular a rear engined one like the FZR throttle control becomes very important. On throttle understeer will transition into oversteer with the right use of the throttle, whether it be just giving it more throttle or momentarily lifting before reapplying to get the nose to turn in.
In the FZR you will need to use some corner exit oversteer on many corners but of course there's the ever present danger of overheating the rear tyres.
I haven't driven Blackwood since S2 was released but on Wednesday night I took part in a 45 lapper at Westhill in the FZR so I'll attach my set. For me at least I found it fairly predictable in it's behaviour and I could do 22-23 laps on R2's at a consistent 1:34-35 pace. The original is actually by king13 which I got from inferno and modified a bit for endurance. This might help you just to get some decent seat time in the car, maybe do 10 lap stints and try not to get the rears over about 90-92 degrees C. If you think it will help I can link you to the race replay.
Get Bob's easy race setup pack from the setup section.
It does sound like your braking force is too high if it's always the undriven wheels that are locking, like Shotglass mentioned mast of the Race_1 sets have braking force too high.
You may also be pushing too much on cold tyres, haven't tested it extensively but I'm pretty sure the cold slicks will be more prone to locking up as the grip levels are lower.
You may also want to download some hotlaps from LFSW, don't expect to be able to brake as well as WR holders but they should give you a rough idea of the braking points for particular corners.
I think that LFS is just more accesible overall, it's also more open than many other sims. How many other sims allow you to play with a mouse or a keyboard, not many. I also think the community is more open minded and not so stuffy like the older more established sims. The comments in that issue of ASS was the perfect example of how intolerant the supposed 'hardcore' sim racers can be.
Pretty good review, I've never seen the show but from what it appears to be the review was quite fair and reasonable.
Chase cam is something that showcases the game more than anything else which is why reviewers will use it, especially when the target audience isn't sim racers.
I think for a league you have to go by whatever LFS determines is the finishing order unless it's blatantly obvious it has gotten it very wrong. Sorry don't have the time to look at the replay but an mpr can't always be trusted, it's quite possible some lag could make one car appear to be just ahead of another when it isn't.
To be honest I think anything less than a couple of days is not enough to evaluate a sim, some things you can tell are good or bad almost immediately but to really evaluate a physics engine you need time imo.
I've only seen a bunch of screenshots but I got the same feeling, especially some of the in-car shots. For some reason I just immediately knew it was an american made game. Not saying it's necessarily a bad thing, just interesting we got the same feeling.
