jtbo, I agree with you but the problem still remains. A large projector would be best suited with a large FOV and the image would be really distorted regardless of the screen size as Juls stated.

I wish I was more in the know about projectors. Like, what's the technical reason why we can't have a really wide aspect ratio projector like 16:3 (the equivalent of three 16:9 monitors linked together). It's so simple to make a good DIY screen for projectors...

Quote from vixer :I think the best would be a virtual helmet (around 1600x1200) with a head tracking device on x1 acceleration .

hmmm... u could just strap a monitor to a helmet and you'd be all set....

Quote from Glenn67 :Well if your refering to the formula bmw ingame then I'd say it would be pretty accurate (Scawen did a hole day of testing in a real one)

Driving a real car is always going to be different to a sim (controls are different and g-forces) but a sim will give you a head start if your new to racing I believe.

There was someone who posted here a month or two ago that stated the Formula BMW felt very different from the real car.

I believe akhenaph was referring to the MRT though.

hi.. check out the unofficial addons forum. IMHO, making an NA car sound like a turbo is just as silly in the virtual world as in real life The full version (S2) has several turbo cars.

As far as the carbon fiber hood, that's probably just a skin.

I've always wanted to drive one of these. They're about 100-200lbs lighter than a 2nd gen miata. According to wikipedia, a 6 speed sequential is standard in the australian market - which can be either a good or bad thing... I'd personally probably prefer a normal h-shifter.

<rant>
That wikipedia article is freaking terrible. Here's a quote:

"The Techno Pro Spirit MR-S was also the first car to be able to beat Tsuchiya's champion AE86 in its own grounds, the touge."

Who CARES!@%
</rant>

Before buying I'd test drive a 99-04 mx-5 to see how it compares. You might prefer the g/b on the miata and the extra storage space will come in handy. Parts and maintenance on the mx-5 are pretty low as well.

If you combine this idea with a FFB gear shift and FFB pedals, you can have a Player Piano type racing rig I'm not exactly sure what the point would be, but it would certainly look cool in your living room.

Am I the only person that thinks ball bearing turbo's avatar looks like Scawen?

Anyway, congratulations!

Quote from hyntty :I don't think it's very fair to demand a faster cpu than a amd 3500+... If i can make the videos, i should be able to watch them too.

Of cource if someone donated a server I could make the videos in stream format, and it would be easier to watch, but that's not really a solution at all

well i have an amd 3400+ so the cpu's probably not your problem

Stupid question. Can you show up at either of the qualifying sessions? I'm going to yet another wedding the 21st of June.

Thanks

vimeo uses the latest version of flash which yields a better video but it requires a faster cpu. My laptop can't play the videos at all but my desktop has no problem with them.

edit... just noticed you said veoh Chances are it's probably the same issue.

Quote from zeromussov :w00t, nice resolution (tv?)

It's fake as it's not currently possible to get a view like that... I'm just dreaming... there's a few threads in the improvements section if you're interested.

You guys should use vimeo or blip.tv for the videos. I recorded my only decent round in HD (1280x720) with Fraps as a test and it came out pretty decent - except for the fact that I basically ran out of HD space and the recording started stuttering the final lap. My cpu isn't that fast (athlon 3400+), but using these guides helped..

Capturing:
http://www.chaotic-motion.com/video/help.html

Compression:
http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=32840

I diverted from the divx guide a bit to lower the file size. I don't understand how people can compress a 2 hour movie to 700MB with decent quality, yet my 200MB 6 minute LFS video loses a ton of the original quality. hmmm... it's probably the high resolution that screws up the file size..

Here was my round 8 skin that no one got to see!

It's basically the same one from the rally round with several corrections:
1) Changed SAAB logo to RA logo - I thought the RAC was a saab concept car - oops
2) Changed Roundabout to Raceabout - I'm an idiot
3) Changed RAC to RA logo
4) Added metal gas lid, metal latches
5) Used shadow map

Anyone involved in moderating the race (safety/rescue/control) should know what they're supposed to be doing before the race as well as knowing all the rules.

I believe in a few races some volunteers came in and weren't sure of either their role or some of the rules (example: no chatting).

While I appreciate whoever voted me in for round 3, I'm going to have to withdraw myself from the voting.

Since I did not take part in round 3, I think it would be unfair if I won

I use names-over-cars and often drive with the racing line on unless I've perfected a track I really wish both features were not available because they're not realistic. But I guess you have to draw a line somewhere.

I find names over cars it's a definite advantage once you get to know different player's driving styles.

Also, with the driving line on it's very easy to use it as a marker for braking instead of relying on objects off of the track.

Quote from Christopher Raemisch :Thats a robin not a woodpecker

ah, thanks. Perhaps they aren't protected birds then! We do in fact have woodpeckers as well - they have a very odd shaped red head, but I have not seen them on my car. I thought this guy was just another type of woodpecker since all he does is go crazy pecking really fast.

Quote from Bob Smith :Force it to read the programmers forum and it'll be wanting to end it's own life soon enough.

Alterantively, if you're feeling more sadistic, get a bird bath/feeder, and then either poison the water/food, or attach some form of remotely triggerable mild explosive to the item and watch it like a hawk with trigger in hand.

lol... I'm thinking about rigging up something like this:
