Quote from AJS :i told my last girlfriend in hungarian : "kuss"

in german "kuss" means "kiss" like in "the kiss" ... a nomen.

in hungarian its pronounced a lil different but it means "shut the f*** up (b**ch)"

Like the time I tried to tell my boss he had 'hat head' and accidentally called him 'groin head'.

I would have loved to know how much my wandering affected the file size but I don't think it would be that bad - I wasn't mining, and world files seem a lot more bloated these days than they were in 1.7 and earlier.

But yeah I literally wandered for days. Sometimes I would walk through three or four rainstorms, just walking the whole time (and collecting pumpkins, I would go slightly off-course to avoid snow/sand so I could find pumpkins, but I wouldn't change course for any other reason), usually there'd be light votes so I wouldn't have to stop moving at all.

I did that on Boosted's server when I got bored. I went into the Nether, built a covered tunnel that went about 300 blocks, then built another portal and ended up miles from anywhere. Then from there I set off walking and each time I logged back into the server I kept walking, for about 2 weeks. Never got to the 'Far Lands' but I had almost a full inventory of pumpkins by the time I was done.

Quote from Shotglass :where did i ever say i was forced to reinstall every 2 years?

There seems to be an implication here, unless you just get sick of your data every 2 years and decide to start again:

Quote from Shotglass :ive noticed exactly how much its slowed down because i usually did format after 2 ish years

As for the registry, I'm not even sure it is the registry that causes Windows to bog down. Certainly it's a bad design decision and it will have some impact on performance but I would be surprised if that's the whole story.

Quote from Shotglass :ive noticed exactly how much its slowed down because i usually did format after 2 ish years

I want an OS where I don't have to wipe the disk and start again every two years.

Quote from E.Reiljans :It's "degrading" only if you're going it wrong

I've been using Windows since 1993, please don't lecture me. I have a dedicated system partition, I have another partition for the user shell folders, and a third for apps and data, I defrag regularly, I don't install anything I don't need, I don't surf porn sites or download pirated software. I doubt anybody has a cleaner Windows box than I do, it's the OS that is shit.

Quote from Shotglass :youre vastly exaggerating there
ive had windows run for 2 years+ without any real cruft issues

No I'm not and no you haven't. You just haven't noticed how much slower it is because it's been degrading over such a long period of time.

Quote from Shotglass :there are a lot of things about the ui that work way way better
for example you can click on window previews when you alt tab now to save time

Like Expose on the Mac. To be honest I prefer clicking around on the XP taskbar to switch programs, it works pretty well.

Quote from Shotglass :also you can access windows and quicklaunch programs via windows+number key

I don't spend a lot of time launching programs, I tend to have the same set of programs open all day.

What would make me buy a new Windows OS is if they fixed the insane cruft levels and put out a version of Windows that ran just as fast in three years' time as it did the day you installed it. Until they fix that I'm not interested in upgrading.

Quote from Shotglass :apart from the ui being a lot better in every way i dont see how anyone would go out buy 3 identical monitors and presumably a rather expensive pc with a rather expensive graphics card to actually render games at that sort of resolution but not be able to afford a comparably dirt cheap 7 licence

Oh I can afford it, I just don't want it. What's wrong with that?

My mum's computer is running Win7, I don't like the UI. It's not so much an improvement over XP as a reshuffle, and I'm happy with where things are right now. Why waste time finding everything again just for the sake of having a slightly different looking desktop with the same shit underneath?

Quote from aoun :Im not asking rhetorical questions to say Its all Vettels work here, but more what do you think..

I think F1 fans like to use car advantage as a means to discredit talented drivers who they don't like.

Quote from [RCG]Boosted :lucky u...never seen one.

The first map I played on your server, I had slimes spawning in my basement all the time, I got pretty annoyed with them until sticky pistons came along, by which time I had three stacks of slimeballs.

My house was within sight of spawn too, surprised you never found any.

Kovalainen shouldn't be in a back-of-the-grid team, I'd prefer to see him in the 'other' Lotus.

Good race this morning, loved watching the on-boards through sector two I wish they'd shown more of that.

So jets in this game aren't nearly as overpowered as they were in BF2, and they don't just fly around destroying everything, and anti-aircraft fire actually works?

I did wonder if they just included dragons to piss Bethesda off.

So you actually saw some engineers shoot down some jets? This actually happened and you witnessed it? WITH YOUR EYES? YOUR ACTUAL EYES? :eye-poppi

So can engineers actually shoot jets down, or can they simply make bleeping noises happen in the jet's cockpit, which can be safely ignored?

If AA on the ground has just as much chance of shooting down a jet as the jet does of taking out armour, then they are balanced. But if ground vehicles are vulnerable to other ground vehicles and anti-tank weapons and aircraft, but aircraft only really have to concern themselves with other aircraft and can attack ground targets without a care in the world (like in BF2) then it will be a disaster.

I'm surprised nobody's waded in with cries about 'realism' yet, but if you want to play realistically then all the infantry should sit around looking at porn until the air force has destroyed everything, then the infantry can stroll in unarmed and put the flags up.

They make the game shitter for 90% of the people on the server. There are the people out in the map playing the game who will randomly get obliterated from the air every five minutes and can do nothing about it, then there are the people who will camp the jet spawns for their entire lives and teamkill eachother to get one, they just make the game more shit than it is without them.

It sounds like BF3 is BF2 but with better hit registration and nicer graphics. Online will just be a massive trollfest like it always was.

That will suck, then.

When it 'takes effort' to kill a jet, and it takes 'no effort' for a jet to kill ground targets, simple logic dictates that the game will consist of two to four players in jets raping the other 60 players on the ground. Wake Island 2007 all over again.

I don't get why people enjoy this.
thisnameistaken

So is it just like BF2, where whoever gets in the jets can rape everything on the ground for the entire round, and anybody who doesn't get in a jet is missile fodder for the next 30 minutes? Or did they make it possible to shoot jets down from the ground this time?

Quote from E.Reiljans :XP is 10 years old.
Asking that is like asking "Why wouldn't you still be on 98? " in year 2008.

Yeah but Win98 was terrible, XP is actually pretty good. In terms of the fundamental problems XP has got (inevitable cruft, the registry [aka 'junk drawer'], lack of an indexed filesystem, etc.) they are still present in Windows 7, so I don't see any point in upgrading.
