Just got home from seeing Bellowhead in Birkenhead. I'd forgotten what an 11-piece band could do, very impressive.

Graphics don't look much better?

I'll wait for the reviews, I thought Oblivion was boring as ****, then a friend of mine urged me to buy Fallout 3 and insisted it was nothing like Oblivion, some ****ing friend...

Maybe it's an accent thing but the voice recognition ****ing sucked when I tried it so I wrote it off. Maybe I'll try again.

The thing is so slick though, fast as **** at everything, and the screen is so big and lush looking it makes the iphone 4s look like old tech. I was going to wait for the Nexus to come out but decided this will do me.

Only downside is no NFC, assuming NFC becomes useful for something eventually.

Got a Galaxy S2 the other day. I'm not one for gadgets really but it's a brilliant little box. Turns out it's even got a decent DLNA client on it, so I can use it to stream media off my network drive or as a remote for my stereo.

Quote from flymike91 :The author is framing that as a bad thing whereas I think that preemptive espionage is good in that it decreases the perceived chance of success of potential terrorists and makes the public more aware that there may be people in their communities who, given the opportunity, would carry out attacks against citizens and military targets. People being vigilant about suspicious activity is what has led the FBI to these radicalized lone wolves in the first place.

Hahaha. What we need is more people like Joe McCarthy?

Quote from ColeusRattus :Now while internet dating starts to get more and more socially acceptable, think of one thing:
There always is a reason why a girl (it's always the girl chosing the guy, not vice versa) needs the internet to get in a relationship.

I know a couple of people who've tried internet dating and the conclusion I came to is as simple as it is obvious:

The women are all psychos, and the men are all married.

Quote from flymike91 :Iran ... is building a nuclear weapon to start a second holocaust. They're probably the only country stupid enough to actually use a nuclear weapon that's why everyone is so scared of them.

As opposed to the only country that has used one?

Today I nearly bought a load of stuff to bring my 5-year-old Windows box up to date, but then I remembered that games are all shit these days and the people in multiplayer are all sociopathic wankers, so I didn't.

Hmm. Yes. How about we leave this line of extrapolation alone before people start pointing their fingers at older countries with a history of imperialism.

Quote from S14 DRIFT :Are you one of those people who skip all the cut scenes? I watch them all because, after all, what's the point of playing the game if you don't absorb yourself into it as much as possible...I'll happily sit through 30 minutes of cutscene if it's done properly, like on some of the metal gear solid ones.

They're mostly shit though, or they were in GTA 4. Just people you don't care about, acting like tough guys. It was like watching a cartoon Eastenders.

It's not often that '**** off' is the most reasonable response to a suggestion, but sometimes it works out that way.

Have you noticed how long it's taking to get the new tyre physics sorted out? Do you think Scawen should be spending his time doing a dedicated 'cruise' version?

**** off, mate.

Quote from Rappa Z :I found that you could get the jist of GTA IV cutscenes in the first 10-15 seconds and just skip the rest without missing very much.

Yeah actually I got that impression too, and maybe it's my OCD but I remember in earlier GTA games you could finish a mission in a different way and still succeed, so I was often waiting to hear undercurrents of different motivations from the characters, but obviously I was expecting too much. Can't have subtlety in a computer game, apparently.

Quote from Matrixi :You can always skip them? Personally I love GTA cutscenes, though I wouldn't increase them. Having a cutscene only at the start (and sometimes at the end) of a mission is just perfect.

If you skip the cutscenes the game doesn't make any sense at all. Would it be so difficult to incorporate the story into the gameplay instead of making players sit through so many cutscenes? GTA 4 and San Andreas were way more cutscene heavy than the earlier games, it was too much. If I sit down to play a game for 30 or 60 minutes and I spend 10 or 20 minutes watching cutscenes that's too much.

Quote from tristancliffe :The struggle is to make the game feel like you're part of a city.

The struggle is to reduce the cutscenes so they're less than 90% of the game.

I want to play a game, not watch a half-baked movie.

Quote from Uke :No it doesn't. I think many of these 'guitar aliens' that can shred faster than anything are not always very talented musicians. Sometimes their shredding is just continuosly going up and down scales and such. I'm not saying that all the shredders are talentless musicians but yeah..

I'm sure I explained this pretty badly becouse my native language isn't english but meh.

Edit: Guess where my nickname comes from : P

Speaking of guitards... I saw this guy play last week, he's really mindblowingly talented and musical with it:

Quote from Kid222 :Agree, i was secretly hoping for Hawaii, which was speculated earlier, or something in Europe, like Prague.

But you figure out, that probably:
1) In California area, there's still loads of potential to beat out, on RAGE engine it's a challenge to make whole San Andreas work and look good, the open nature has so many possibilities, i can imagine we're having something great coming towards us. Original San Andreas was probably only alpha, in retrospective.
2) Most of Rockstar team are from America (i guess), so they know their country and habits better -> lulz and jokes. Studying new country and their mentality, to make it into usual GTA quality takes some research -> FU gamers, we want cheezburgers and money, no more hard work.

It's like all the films and TV shows that come out of the USA though - most are set in LA or NY, I'm ****ing bored to death of both places.

Whereas look at what Coen Bros. do in terms of showing aspects of America that aren't normally portrayed. Very refreshing, and they obviously do a lot of research. Admittedly you couldn't set a gangster game in North Dakota, but there are more places on earth than just LA and NY where it would be feasible.

Oh well...

I wish they'd pick another setting, why use the same towns over and over? The old top-down GTA did London in the '60s but I suppose that's not going to appeal to a broad enough audience for the sort of money they're spending now.

Big budgets make games suck.
