Ok, now we just need a review of the GT3 w/ load cell brake. (not out yet)

Quote from Bob Smith :Trail braking is a process by where you reduce pressure on the brakes while increasing steering. So the theory is, you have simulataneous rolling and pitching, where the front inside spring is extending (i.e. rebound), and the rear outside spring is compressing (i.e. bump).

Ahh that makes sense. Thanks Bob.

Quote from Zen321 :I admit that a higher front rebound would create more oversteer when trailbraking, in order to prevent the weight from going too much to the rear

I'm starting to confuse myself as well. To induce oversteer during trailbraking, wouldn't you want to focus on the front compression setting instead? Once the car is set and the forward load transfer is complete, don't the rebound settings only have to deal with minor oscillations in the track surface, at least until throttle is applied?

Or did I just make that all up? Where's a smart-ass engineer when you need one?

Edit: And by smart-ass, I don't necessarily mean smart, I mean Tristan.

I was always under the impression that decreasing front rebound would increase oversteer, and increasing front rebound would increase understeer.

Quote from VTRacing :So, if you stiffen the rear compression or the front rebound, you will tend to get more oversteer (especially on exit)

Right, this is where the chart is off i think.

Increasing the rear rebound should increase oversteer during corner entry.

It seems everything listed on that chart for corner exit is opposite the way you'd think, not just rear compression.

For some reason I never really focus on the dampers that much for corner exit. I tune the dampers to help get the car turned in and rely on arb, tire pressure, and springs to help with stability on the way out.

I'm not sure what exactly it is you're asking, but from what I understand dampers don't change the amount of load transferred, just the rate at which it is transferred.

Yeah, the polygonal lasso is the only way to go when you need to do a detailed selection of both straight lines and smooth curves.

quick tip, hitting "Q" will bring you into quick mask, where you can fine tune your layer mask before creating a selection from it. Black brush (adds red) takes away selection, white brush (subtracts red) adds selection. When you hit "Q" again to exit quick mask, a selection will appear on whatever you didn't paint red. Really useful for any number of things.

A more accurate way would be to Select>Color Range, and then eye dropper the white. That way you know you can get all of it, and if need be you can Select>Grow to push the selection right to the edges, getting rid of that typical edge glow you see around selections. The magic wand tool is kind of hit or miss.

This is a good one.

It is enjoyable, especially when you mix it in with the GT class cars from the SCC mod. Those cars may not be very realistic to drive, but they sure look pretty when you're blasting through a pack of them at Le Mans with everything on high.

And it sounds great too.

The car isn't perfect by any means, but it's actually drivable, and that's more than I can say for almost everything I've tried in rFactor.

With TC and SC off, things start to feel like they should. Trail braking gets the nose in without inducing the ISI death spin, rear end is controllable (and savable) under power, and Real Feel works.

Basically the way I judge a mod, or sim for that matter, is by how much I have to relearn my driving to either be fast, or just keep the car on the track. After all, every true sim out there is working towards the same goal, and ideally should all feel the same.

This DP mod, along with the Vette, are basically the only cars so far in rFactor that can be driven similar to the way I'd drive in iRacing or LFS, or the real world for that matter.

It feels closer to your work than anything I've tried.

Actually, this mod feels about as good as it gets with rfactor, which i suppose isn't saying much. Still, I wouldn't be so quick to write it off. Feels much better than 98% of the mods i've tried....

I feel like some credit needs to be given to the Virtua-Lemans guys, the tracks they do for rFactor really are top notch. Mid-Ohio, Lemans, etc., are all awesome tracks to drive the Vette on. I can't use the Historic-X mod, or whatever it's called, as it sounds like you need a GPL disc, which I don't have.

That being said, even with the good mods in rFactor, the back of every car I've tried just acts like it's in another dimension most of the time. I can't go more than 30mph around T1 at Monaco without spinning. I can't save slides 1 degree past the limit. Worst of all, I CAN save slides by steering the wrong direction. Car straightens right out...

I didn't write it off immediately either, I've had it installed for over a year. I've tried every combo of settings, every value in Real Feel tweaked over and over, and nothing changes the fact that the ISI engine sucks, and guys like Niels have done their best with it, but they can only do so much...

Edit: And what's up with night racing being unplayable with more than a few cars? I can get 200+fps during the day, but a field full of headlights at night brings my system to a crawl.

Quote from GrIp DrIvEr :I was telling YOU. not everyone else, because you have to give crap about what they listen to. you said, all the bands in here are garbage. I am so positive that no one wants to read that.

Don't forget, punk is not about a certain sound, a certain image, it's not about what iTunes says... it's about a mindset, an ideal, unity and a sense of individual freedom from authority.

Many of the bands listed here are just selling an image or sound, there's no soul. Entertainment to many? Yes, but definitely not punk.

Quote from GrIp DrIvEr :iTunes considers it Punk. if it isn't then SOOORY. We don't need anymore of your imput. Don't post any of your two cents either.

First of all, iTunes wouldn't know punk if punk spit in it's face. Second of all, you asked for people's input. That's what you got. You can't make a thread and then tell people who you don't agree with not to post in it.

Most of what people have listed is either Pop-Punk, or just total garbage. Usually the two go hand in hand... but hey if I was 15 I might think Rise Against is punk too.

I've had rFactor for over a year, and even with Niels' Vette I can't get it set up right. I spend more time trying to set up my **** steering than I do racing, eventually I just turn it off.

If it weren't for the 'Ring, I'd have uninstalled it months ago.

This may be a stupid question (yes they do exist) but when i get rid of my f9 screen i get a big list of everyone in the race, and can't get rid of that. I don't want to shift-F to get rid of everything, i just want the list gone when there is no f9/f10/f11 etc displayed, without using shift-F.

In other words, the only things i want on my screen are the track map, timing, and position in the upper right corner. Nothing on the bottom. I can't seem to make that happen...

omg nevermind. i'm an idiot.

Quote from DaveWS :That was a bump, but that occured well before the oversteer to the right. I was on full throttle for most of that slide, so that isn't the cause. I've never had any issues correcting slides in LFS or iRacing FWIW.

The thing is, the car was completely settled, planted, corrected etc well before the sudden snap to the right. It's like a massively delayed weight transfer or something.

This was the first thing I noticed when trying the new nkp. I can only describe them feeling like very slow motion tankslappers, when the rear end should be firmly planted.

I'd go jump in whatever car you're most comfortable in, and do some full length qual sessions. Forget about your time, just stay on track. Easy SR, especially if you're in danger of not being promoted. If your minimums are met for the season, I'd park the Mazda. Even poking around in that thing can get you in trouble. One little curb and your session is pointless.

Yeah I'm excited about the DP, even though I'm still D and will have to wait to race it. Lots of practice beforehand I guess. Mixed class 24h with Daytona and the C6R? At Sebring?! Yeah count me in.

It sounds like you just need to boost your iRating a little bit. The stronger the field, the cleaner the racing gets. I never really see anyone make foolish moves, and my average SoF is only approaching 3000. The racing is super clean, and even though I'm not in there to beat guys like Volker Hackman and Luke Mclean, if I end up with incidents it's almost always my fault.

It might be worth it to grab a few easy podiums in some rookie solstice races just to give your irating a little bump, and that will help group you with cleaner drivers in the skip, mazda etc. And definitely stay away from the mazda if your iRating is in trouble.

Quote from Victor :the emphasis is on the braking and not the blipping.

Right, and your whole leg has to move to move the heel well. Your ankle is more precise in controlling the ball of your foot/toes.

And I'm pretty sure my foot wouldn't even fit down there if I tried putting my heel on the brake.
