Word of warning!!

Just a small word of warning!

The above post mentions the "Inferno setup page." Do not use these setups as is, or you will be off the track more that on it!!!!!

These sets are tweaked to within an inch of their lives!! Really fast but very unstable. You will need to add downforce, take off some camber, maybe change the gears a bit because you changed the downforce. And on and on and on....

If you really want to get faster gradually. Which is what I think you we're asking. Learn the lines of the tracks. The new feature that lets you see the racing line (#4) is a great learning tool.

Don't use the fastest set! Use a really stable set that lets you drive the racing line nice and smooth. You will go faster and faster almost every lap, and you will be faster than almost all the guys that download the Inferno sets!!

Drop by the [HR] servers sometime for some good racing and we will share some sets as well.

Hope this helps and happy racing.

Jeesh you guys that only want to race with full cockpit veiw

I seem to be having trouble keeping the car on the road, so if I don't turn right I have a 50% better chance of not crashing!!

Try turning skins off for awhile. I get stutter when a new skin is downloaded. I thought skins were supposed to wait until you were stopped or in the pits.
I get skins downloading while raceing which induces stutter. Sometimes at the worst time like a high speed corner.

Also can you clairify if it is one stutter, or a bunch all together like when the Anti virus kicks in.

Quote from XCNuse :Bridge does that too, it's really nice because after you make say a whitebalance edit to one, you can copy the edits you made to one picture, and set it to all of the pictures.

Yup this is the same in Lightroom.

Nikon groupy here

I'm a self confessed Nikon groupy. I own a D70 which I bought new a few years ago. And a D80 that I got last year. They are both exellent cameras and far from being pro versions.
But it is all about what you know not what camera you have. I see so many people with the same cameras as me and not a clue how to use them. If you are never going to take the camera off auto then buy a point and shoot. You will enjoy it more.
Don't get me wrong I use auto sometimes too. When I'm out with the family for a walk and am taking snaps of the kids I don't want to think about the camera.

But I also shoot almost all of my clients pics on full manual so I get what I want. This takes some learning though. Not nessesarily from a school but at least trial and error.

Quote from col :That would be completely hopeless in a crowded high speed racing situation - e.g. T1 mayhem - and unfortunately a crowded high speed situation is exactly the place where the look buttons are most important. You need to be able to see to either side for only an instant and then be looking forward again or you will cause accidents !

I'm not sure about 'look at nearest car' - I would have to experience it before judging, but it is certainly missing on of the features that I find 90º look so useful for.
With 90º, you can easily see if the guy/gal beside you has fair overlap or not (and whether you do). With the look at car feature, I would never use it unless it was instant, and in that case, it would be difficult to judge how big an overlap the car has.
Another problem is that it is likely to be disorienting having your view changed in an arbitrary way that depends on the position of another car that you may not even be aware of - I'm pretty sure I would prefer to have a dependable 'look' that always did the same thing. That way it can become an instinctive part of my sensory input rather than a puzzle for my conscious brain

I've said elsewhere that I believe that 90º instant look is a good and fair compromise between fantasy and reality as a way to counteract the lack of peripheral vision when using a standard PC monitor.

When I race, I (used to) tap the look button, I see to the side for maybe 2 or 3 frames, and I'm looking forward again before my brain has even finished 'realizing' if there's another car beside me or not - it's a really intuitive way of getting better spacial awareness.

IMO the guys claiming that you don't ever turn you head 90º in a race car are missing the point! In real life, even with a helmet on and a harness, you should be able to get 180º of visual awareness with minimal head movements maybe 20-30º each way. The 45º look just doesn't do it, and now the 90º look is just way more awkward than it needs to be.

I know it is 'un-realistic', but this is about counteracting one very un-realistic problem (lack of peripheral vision) with an equally unrealistic solution (90º instant look) in order to make the overall experience more realistic.

ok, enough... soapbox anyone ?

+1 +1 You have pretty much nailed it on the head and put the coffin in the ground!!

Quote from joen :A good example of how to bring across what you like and don´t like about the patch, in a constructive and civilised manner. My compliments, people should take this as an example instead of just getting angry and demanding things back/changed.

That is the first time "civilised" and "Andy's" name have been in the same sentence!

You have to knock down the Lateral G force I think. It was one of those I had to do it too. I couldn't see anything going into the corners
You can do it

You can keep the clutch cool no problem!!!

"I drive like a hack!" and I am having no problem with the clutch. I've missed shifts, spun, totally screwed up on numerous occasions, and my clutch is still good.
I shift with paddles and don't have a clutch peddle. Apart from having to relearn a bit of my shifting technique (It could take awhile) I am not having that big a problem.
Redline too

Quote from AndroidXP :Maybe it's the STCC license plugin that causes the server to hiccup?

I was on Redline servers last night and the stutter there was related to skins downloading while racing.
Very hard to go through a corner with stutter. I didn't have this problem before I turned my skinz on.
And I also noticed the pit stutter as well, not all the time but sometimes it does happen.

What do you set your button debounce too so you don't get multipule button presses registering?

Quote from Linsen :
I have to conceed however, that throttle cut and blip is harder to time right with flappy-paddles, I remember that from when I didn't have a DFP. But the amount of practice needed to get it right is certainly not unreasonable.

Hi
Can you let me know how to do this? I have been trying but I don't get a blip no matter what I do.
Thanks
