just out of pure interest. I just came across this video (http://www.virtualr.net/gamerm ... ive-for-speed-still-alive) where the guy talks about all tracks in LFS being fictional and it came to me. Seriously, it must be so much harder to come with your own tracks then to simply rebuild any exisiting track. Obviously, people prefer real tracks since somehow the purpose of a simulation is to simulate something real. But to come up with your own tracks, you can not just be a good modeller but first of all you must be some kind of a track architect.
Especially since Erics background before LFS was Lionhead and if I remember correctly mainly Black & White (http://www.lionhead.com/games/black-white/). Yes the game had great graphics/worlds for the time but I dont think its comporable in any way.
Obviously the cars are fictional in LFS as well, but lets face it, cars look good or bad (highly subjective) but during racing it doesnt matter so much. The tracks must simply feel right, have a proper learning curve etc. Just thinking about it, I am amazed
first of all thanks for the great updates coming, I dont care if its capitalist reasons behind it or not.
I also had an increase from 60fps to 80fps. But more importantly, I felt that higher ingame AA values are more easily achieved with less negative FPS impact. Might be illusion though.
With Red-Cyan 3D mode, frames drop to 35 per second. But thats expected, right?
I am on a i3 with HD4000 Intel graphics on windows 8.1 and 1920*1080.
Keep it up please. I think like for many other people, all this made me come back. I actually bought a G27 again and I am racing with my media PC in the living room !
Great. I also just wanted to add an idea I had on the way home while reading the thread updates on my phone.
If you cant force people not to hack the setups, can you make it public when they did? Maybe its impossible to secure them, but what about any kind of identifier defined per setup which is then stored on your servers. If anybody uses this setup, and they have no right to, you issue a warning/message on the host.
I havent thought it through but generally my idea is to think in another direction. Dont secure the setup, secure the usage of a setup.
Thanks troy. That sounds amazing. Almost too good to be true, do you have any experience with it?
As far as I understand, the gfx power of the dedicated gfx card is channeled through the mainboard and is being outputted over the normal mainboard video output. Also it seems like the switch is completely seemless.
I have been long time absent to LFS and just got remotivated thanks to the latest updates. But things change, nowadays I am mainly on Mac. I have a completely fanless HTPC though (HD4000 gfx, 8gb ram, SSD and i3). LFS runs ok with it on 1920x1080 but I dont wanna just accept 50-60fps.
On the other hand I dont wanna give up on my HTPC experience with no moving parts not so ever, I love the tranquility. I could accept a little fan noise while playing though.
The question now is, can I install a mid-priced low profile gfx card into my PCI Express slot and just use it for LFS/gaming? I dont wanna use it for Desktop or XBMC (my HTPC software). I want to use it on the same screen though (TV has one HDMI input left).
Since there really was no up-to-date thread about this, I am opening a new one. Is anybody using LFS successfully with steering wheel over Wine on a Mac?
Should I try or just not?
I tried it with WineBottler just now and managed to get it basically running in 5minutes. Sound, 100fps and Mouseinput. Didnt try anything more because I have no time. But my question is, is this worth looking into or should I just give up?
Just a quick fun fact. I passed by this forum after several month of inactivity (again) and I just saw a new topic "New Version" at the forefront of the General Discussion board with new messages.
I immediately felt a slight change in my heart rate. Of course it was "only" this old topic from november about an update which is not that important to me.
Then again, LFS is quite dead for me right now. Not only because there was no significant update (for me) since a while but also because I sold my steering wheel, I am on a mac now, I grew up, have less time and some real life "racing".
BUT... I dare to say that no other game would have this impact on me even though I havent used it since years.
Just my thoughts (and slight hope that there is some light at the end of the tunnel )
You know? This point is always broad up by someone, but its wrong. I know that all the people i know private who used to play LFS dont play it anymore and none of them joined a league. Maybe my sample is to small and not representative but one thing for me is sure:
GPL is also still played in some leagues as far as i know or at least it has been for a long time. But still, i would consider it as dead.
I dont want to say LFS is dead or not in development. But still, even though we assume the three are still working hard (and i really think they are) we are facing a problem. Because LFS was for lots of people never about leagues and the majority of people dont have time (especially predictable time) to enroll in leagues! That was what LFS was always about for me, pick up races. Like a good shooter, pic up games and it was the only racing game what mastered this quiet well.
So the question is, what changed? And how can "we" change it back, as long as we want to....
Victor, German looks fine now (Formal/Informal). Since the language auto selection works fine obviously, why dont you translate the sentence "Select language" in the auto selected language?
Worked perfectly fine here on german Windows 7 64bit on a Mac (Bootcamp) (Install & Uninstall)
I just had a quick look, but it seems that the LFS license agreement is fine. But on the same page the installer text telling me about the agreement and everything is using the formal "Sie" unlike the rest which is using "Du".
Thanks for the answer! No matter if i really like the answer, i think its the only way to go. I also guess you are pretty good informed of what ESP really is doing, especially the up-to-date versions. You are just deciding based on what is possible for you to do in a specific amount of time and what will end in a disaster.
To everyone, because i guess Scawen answered that already plenty of times: Will we be able to turn ESP off completely in the Scirocco? Its not like that in the real car - so i am a little scared
The question will be what resolution these graphics will have. This video footage was first a little stuttering and second not really high definition. So its hard to guess how good it really looks. But it definitely is an interesting and sophisticated idea. How they good the funding? They are already working 4 years on this...
Just a stupid idea came to my mind. Would it work to use the onboard radeon HD3200 and my PCI-E 8600GT simultaneously? I dont talk about anything like SLI, just about using both grafic cards without reboot.
So as soon as i want to play LFS, i switch the display and the race can start?
