Can't say that i have much to add to this thread, but i can say i've enjoyed reading it thoroughly. Makes me smile to see lots of old names holding a mature conversation on these forums (a seemingly rare occurance of late).
I will be watching intently to see what can come out of this discussion, as it seems to be the group of like-minded people who brought me to LFS way back when.
Hopes for a quick recovery. Apparently, motorist's lack of attention/awareness towards bicyclist/motorcyclist is universally lacking. I'm glad Webber got away as he did.
Please be careful out there, share the road, and watch for bikers.
@ DP - Any idea when we could learn more about the Atom-esque Two seater you have generated? It looks awesome too.
The alternate Body for the DP1 is interesting, but not as appealing to me. The 95% cost you mention is interesting, is that mainly if you produced a new mold for the body? I remember that the mold cost was a pretty extreme first cost.
Revit for MEP is about as useful as a poopy flavored lollipop . It's unintuitive, overly complicated, and in some cases (plumbing) just doesn't work. No wonder Architect types love it. It would be appreciated if you didn't mentioned the name Revit ever again, or at least for a couple of years until it is usable. Thanks.
At the cost of hitting the wall and blowing a tire, a mistake that would have ended a F1 driver's race 99% of the time. He got lucky, that's it. How many other F1 drivers have smashed off a wall at Monaco and continued on to the win? He's young, eager, and doesn't know any better.
I will play the role of the dissenter and disagree here. This is Formula One here! The best cars in the world with the best drivers.
The very essence is that Every part of the car is the highest level of cutting-edge technology. That's what's enabled F1 to be the technological force behind a multitude of road car innovations throughout the history of the sport.
It's the spaying and neutering of the technological advances [normal aspiration only, banning continuously variable transmissions, banning "instantaneous" gear changes (however Honda achieved that), outlawing underbody aerodynamic devices] that has made the sport less-and-less relevant to the over-the-road motor car.
The cost isn't the problem here, it is the lack of advances forwards. The engineers should be allowed to engineer, and create the next inovations that will make all of our lives better.
I welcome KERS and love to see future regulations leaning towards encouraging efficiency as well.
Initially, I was hoping for the upcoming grassroots popular BMW Spec E30 series, but that probably is too similar to the Solstice. (Plus E30 is NASA I believe, iRacing is SCCA)
I think a GT3-cup car could be a good addition, but secretly I'm hoping for the BTCC Volo 850 wagon.
A Caterham R400 would be terrific too.
BTW, GrassrootsMotorsports Magazine has an article about iRacing in it this month. I've not yet seen it firsthand, but my friend says there is a screen shot where I'm leading the writer
Was the big Spa crash the last F1 race to be Red Flagged at the start? I was trying to find this but haven't been able to find a list of red flagged F1 starts. It used to be entertaining seeing the crews prepping the spare car, driver jogging back up to the pit-lane.
Is it just me, or by and large, the modern F1 racers/races have seen much less T1 drama than the mid-late 90's?
I feel the same way about Road Atlanta (except that I'm already subscribed). Truth be told, I haven't heard many first hand accounts of track realism yet.
I agree, but in this case there is quite a bit of depth under the surface. If the tracks and FFB don't sell you initially, iRacing is a hard sell. Having driven a Legends car before, the first time the G25 pulled the wheel from my hands going over a bump I was sold, it was that real. While some people are bound to agree with the OP, my friend put it best, "If you enjoy LFS and want to keep it that way, do Not buy a month trial of iRacing." Simply put, the FFB and Tracks offer something different to LFS. Some may not like it, but to some it is just what they've been waiting/hoping for.
My main iRacing complaint at this time. You cannot try a car before you buy it. I was looking forward to the skippy, so I bought it. Had I driven it a few times, I probably would have held out for the Formula Mazda, Radical, Late Model, or the forthcoming Spec Racer. (Edit -> Due to the fact I bought a year subscription, I actually didn't "buy" it. I got the Skippy, Formula Mazda, Infineon Raceway, and VIR all included)
QFT, this is a race-saver. I use rubber cabinet liner.
Congrats Tristan! Sorry to see it end that way, but a championship is a championship. It really is great to see someone we can all relate to through sims & LFS, really going out there and going after it in such an interesting series.
Best of luck with the repairs, I'm quite interested in seeing the new car and comparisons of the driving experiences.
