Scawen, I can test it in a couple of days. It’s just that my rig is disassembled because we are moving tomorrow. My setup is Ryzen 5900x, FE3080 and 32” Triples and Reverb G2. Let me know if you want me to check out something in particular.

Thanks for the christmas present. Just upgraded to S3. No, Rockingham is not worth 17,12 EUR for me. But the last years of fun definitely is and this gives me the chance to pay back a little and at the same time pave the road for an interesting future.

I dont see the anger of so many people. If it touches you so emotionally what LFS does, you should consider playing it more Wink

I myself will go back to play AC Nordschleife in BMW E30 DTM and 190 EVO DTM with my pals. Yes, Multiplayer is shit compared to LFS... I have to leave the server to change my car, I have to leave the server to change controls, I have to restart my server to change a track... even so I am admin. So... each sim has its upsides and downsides Smile

Thanks Scavier for the surprise.

Quote from Scawen :

Seems a bit like this:

Before 0.6H: "Why do you insist on making LFS run on a Casio wristwatch from the 1980s?"

After 0.6H: "OMG this is impossible, I don't have a Cray supercomputer!"

I dont really get this point. Yeah, there are some winers who complain now about less frames with their non-gaming-compatible computers. But the ones you quoted definitely dont fall into that category.

I actually do play on my HTPC on a Full HD TV (=> 1920*1080) - only passively cooled and only onboard graphics. I got used to frames around 50-60. In the new westhill the fps went down approx 10% - completely understandable and fine. For Papa though, the situation is completely different. While he managed to average way beyond 100fps before, after the update (_and not just on westhill_) he is facing fps around 30 dropping constantly to 15, 20. Therefore LFS is simply not playable for him right now. Even more interestingly, if he sets up (almost) the same resolution but in window mode he gets the performance from prior 0.6H. Since there are more people reporting similar issues, there must be something off. Especially when looking at my results and the impact on fps compared to others with significantly higher performance PCs having relatively and absolutely speaking a higher impact on fps.

I agree with you Scawen though on the fact that from the current data you cant really make up any patterns. Shouldnt we try to change that and try to find out some specs?

@Papa: Could you post your detailed system specs?

Cheers,
Steffen

Nah, seriously.. Full IPv6 readyness will imply another incompatible patch anyway when the world is changing to that format, lets change it when it's actually needed.

I dunno, I think now would be a good time to add it considering this hasn't been released yet. How ever, I know, my home connection has IPV6. While, less than 7% of the people who access google have actually adopted IPV6 so far(source), if you look at the graph, you'll see how much it's picking it's pace up, (2.8% on April 1st of last year, 6.3% as of March 30th) I think now would be a good time if we're going to introduce the functionality.

Good source: http://www.google.com/intl/en/ipv6/statistics.html#tab=per-country-ipv6-adoption

It also shows that in Germany and the US the share is already up to 16%, Belgium even 31%. Though Uk is only at 0,28% :Really:

This leads to the fact that those mentioned percentages arent able to start dedicated hosts. I am one of them Wink

Scawen! Dont do this. I just received an email update to this thread and just read your comment. For me it somehow implied that you have just released a patch with the new Westhill. Damnit. Smile

Scawen, just to out of interest. Your current plan is to test compatible changes now in G2, G3 and as soon as everything is fixed, release incompatible test patches including WE? Or are you planning to first release compatible version H and test incompatible things in H1 etc?

Jokes aside. For me as having played since December 2002, it is plain saddening what has become of LFS and it's development. In 2006 things still looked ever so promising for the future. I even remember LFS mates of mine winning "S3 licenses" at leagues. As it turns out 8.5 years on they still haven't been able to receive their rewards from the long gone league organisations. Not that it bothers them anymore cause I've seen nearly all my LFS mates fall off the radar after having lost their hopes and interest.

And I, I seem to just have stuck around having fait in- and love for LFS.. But since early (insert year) history seems to indefenitly repeat itself and my love light for LFS is slowely burning out too...

One should only handle few false promises. And one should not shine brighter than the truth is.

So my question to you ScaViEr... Where are we really, with LFS? Is there really a promising release in the nearby future. And are you certain that if what ever update comes... you will be able to make progress on an acceptable pace? I respect that you're lifes have changed with several other priorities. But please don't say that because of things in life you have only been able to release clutch and engine wear simulation, a Formula BMW, open configs and virtual 3D support ever since 2007. Even if considered the tyre physics. Because don't get me wrong I am not insulting you. But this is just not reasonable to us, your customers, your loyal fans. And I just hope you can find joy back in your work in LFS. Because it's still something special. And I have been very saddened by slowely seen the population take a dive.

That sounds really like fun! I honestly have no idea anymore, the last time I used Tweak was like 5 years ago. Have to look for downloads. And what is NTO?

Maybe we can create a host for this

Quote from 5tag :It would be an easy way indeed but do we really want yet another one of the XR kind? It's not particularly pretty and in a way I'm sick of it (Drifters).
Live for Speed needs fresh content and when I think of RWD touring cars I'm thinking of (old) DTM's 190 Evo or BTCC's E36 320i, modest looking, sporty saloons slammed to the ground with huge wheels and aggresive aero kits.

So yeah, something along those lines for me, please.

Quote from Victor :Good to hear the hosting service is functioning well

Ah, DS Lite - my isp is doing a test with that. What that is, is you get a full IPv6 address space and a NAT'ed IPv4 address. So you (will) share your IPv4 address with other people. This means you can still create IPv4 connections to the internet, but you cannot run services anymore. Or in theory you could, if the isp offers you a way to do port forwarding. But I'm guessing they do not.

Putting an IPv6 address in the host.cfg or setup file won't work. LFS itself is not IPv6 ready, nor is the master.

The hosting's ACL section doesn't allow IPv6 addresses to be entered, simply because LFS isn't IPv6 ready yet. So adding them is pointless.
This will of course change in the event LFS becomes IPv6 ready.

Exactly, then, I pretty much understood everything correct. Any plans on getting LFS ipv6 ready?

Quote from Victor :hmm, our LFS site IS ipv6 enabled and our insim relay as well. You could in theory connect your host to the relay and you could connect your insim app to the relay as well (although it needs support for the relay, which I'm not sure Airio has).

Other than that .. I'm not sure atm. I do plan on adding Airio / Lapper support and I've a insim "plugin" of my own in the works as well (aimed at leagues). Then you could run Airio on the hosting server itself, which would solve your problem. But unfortunatly that's not possible yet.

But .. this dilemma also means you cannot play LFS itself then? Or do you play from another location?

Thanks for getting back to me so fast. I already explained my probelm in detail in the Technical Assistance forum: https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/86276-LFS-dedicated-host-with-ipv6%3F

Ok, then I will wait for your approach. I just finished the first round of using the On-Demand host. Simply great, works like a charm and no fiddeling with firewalls etc. Thanks for that feature.

I am able to play from my connection. The situation is this, there is an IP reported to the server, if you ping-back that IP though, you wont end up at my place. Its called DS Lite (Dual Stack Lite). So the Master Server supports ipv6? That means I can set an ipv6 IP as my ip in the host cfg? Also, I can set an ipv6 IP in the Access List for the On-Demand-Host? Doesnt seem like:

IPs with errors : 2A**:2**8****:3C***:6***:B***:7**5 (LFS only uses IPv4)

Victor,

I am trying to setup one of these on-demand hosts. I would like to start Airio though. I am doing all this because I cant setup a private host on my dial up connection since its a modern ipv6 connection and the LFS dedicated host ist not compatible with it.

Unfortunately this leads to the same problem with Airio since I cant setup my IP to allow INSIM, since I simply dont have a public ipv4 IP.

Any ideas?

Quote from cmanns :Correct performance is good on OS X

If someone can ask LFS dev's I'll bottle a Wine + LFS application for OS X that they can redistribute !

I need permission to include LFS witht he wine files for an OS X all-in-one application

That would be great! You should go ahead with that idea.

No clue about steering input like a Wheel, I just quickly checked it and Keyboard/Mouse worked.
