Quote from Stone in Focus :you know the irony of your avatar bread fan.... it's hot!

Nope, because Breadfan actually has nothing to do with bread, neither with fans

Quote from 1995CobraR :got a problem with me likeing both brands? here have a nana...

I personally have no problem with it, it's just that I don't know much about american cars. If you had a microsoft logo as the avatar and a nick that says LinusTorvalds4ever then I would understand the irony :P

Quote from hrtburnout :To have S3, you need S2 final first .

I just wish that Eric would at least show a sign of activity.

Is there any info from the DEVs about their actual progress? I would like to know when the next patch will come out and how much of it is done. I hope that Scavier will consider this possibility as it will psychologicaly shorten the waiting for next patch :P

Quote from ajp71 : I can't see why any true LFSer won't upgrade

Well I am no true LFSer (yet) but I will upgrade to S3 when available. Bad luck for S2 then, I guess

What I am concerned about is the fate of S2 when S3 comes out. Will the S2 remain almost unnoticed just as the S1 is now? I mean lack of servers and lack of S1 licensed players? I hope not and would like to know how many people will migrate/upgrade. Is there any poll about it already?

Alright. In the spirit of putting this thread back on the initial topic, I say I cannot do sh.t concerning the models, textures etc, thus I shut up. But I wish you all good luck with this modding situation and hopefully we will see some positive results soon.

BruTaLysT has made a very good point. Obviously there are people who can provide professional, high quality and optimized additional content for the game. What bothers me most is how to break the invisible wall between those people, and the ones (or shoud I say three?) who can make it all happen.

This Sp!tfire's thread is by far the most intelligent one in this whole thread. You have my support. Anyway, I would like to give that Skoda mod a test drive as my dad owns a Skoda, so I'd like to compare them :P

I still think it is worth the trouble of removing the possible exploit, but that's up to the DEVs.

I've been playing LFS for some time already, but I still don't know whether it is or isn't possible to watch replays from S2 on (locked) demo clients. If it's not possible, then I think it could be a big tease for demo racers as they could see the S2 content in it's full beauty with all the cars and tracks, they just couldn't be able to play it. And since the demo already contains the cars and tracks, there wouldn't be no hassle with aditional downloads, just the .spr and .mpr files.

Quote from Homeless_Drunk :Using pre-sampled sounds would be a step backwards...

I don't understand why everyone likes pre-sampled sounds...they give no feedback to what the car is doing...

If everyone likes pre-sampled sounds, then that makes you the only one who doesn't Pre-sampled engine sounds FTW then

It's fun to see this thread going the morbid way However, only to remind you, it's not only about gravestones

Now on a more serious note: I have a friend, who is 23 and is still a virgin. That wouldn't be as bad as the fact that he hasn't even had girl in his life. Why? Because he is a computer games fanatic. But few weeks ago, he told me that the computer games don't amuse him anymore. ...so he bought a PS2

I personally think that the reason why people are asking for mods is that they want to drive their favorite car around a track, to try what it's like. Racing online with their car might not be the priority. In order to put some order into this, there should be a server-side option wether to allow mods or original content only, so that you don't see noobs winning races in batmobiles. I would like to drive a batmobile around Blackwood, but I'm sure that it would be annoying for others, so I'd drive it offline only. What I'm trying to say is that there should be a server-side option to allow (or not) mods.

Quality of the models is another thing that bothers many people here. A rating system based on comunity members' votes would be helpful, although a board of uber-members would be even more. But that's work for no money. Speaking of money, the DEVs could think about releasing a LFS S2m version, that would (for a small fee, if necessary) allow using mods, so that the effort comes with a reward. And as we all know, when something is about money, the competition grows and so does the quality.

Concerning the rules, there obviously have to be some, to prevent chaos. The size and complexity of the model would be predefined by certain boundaries (uncluding wireframe, textures, sounds for cars etc.).

The last thing I want to say that all this talking and flaming about mods is in my point of view absolutely useless until we stop talking BS and show the DEVs that the LFS COMMUNITY IS READY to accept mods in a mature and intelligent way. I don't want to sound like a leader of a revolution, neither I want to be one, but I suggest that we choose the most responsible members of this fine community. They must be respected by us and also by their superiors - The DEVs. After being chosen, they will create rules originating from the DEVs' specifications. They will act as the judge, the jury and the executionner ( :smash3d: ). Models will be rated by the community and the best ones will be forwarded to the board, judged and possibly implemented.

Phew, I think I am overcomplicating things, so I better shut up and see what happens..... *ducks and covers his ears*

Then there should be a committee, that will make rules. The high elders of this forum should form a group, that will create simple and comprehensible rules, that the modders will have to obey. Then there should be another lower committee formed by experienced modelers, who will give technical proposals to the high committee and also judge contributions (their quality and value). The mods, that pass might eventualy get implemented into the game in future patches.

I wouldn't want this thread to turn to another flamewar. As I see it, you have 2 options:

1) Stop arguing about modding and wait until the DEVs give a resolution to this or;
2) Blackmail the DEVs by sending them lots of high quality contributions.

And how many options would you like in the poll? One for every tenth of a litre?

//edit: Just for your pleasure and the fun of others, I suggest making a compilation of as many numbers as possible and then run a frequency analysis on it to find the "most popular" value. If you want just the pure average, sum all the values and divide the result by the number of the values. Shoud be enough.

OK I get your point and I'm not saying that I disagree with you. I am just presenting my opinion. Anyway, I am for everything that adds more possibilities to LFS, be it new content or new options. The one that you have presented (server side setup-disable thing) is a good idea, while it can be turned on/off. I still think that LFS is 50:50 about driving and setups (because you have to be good at both to win) but I will support your idea

If someone is better because of hours spent behind the wheel, it's ok, but if he is also better because of hours spent setting up his car, it's not ok? Every one can do that. If he is lazy or doesn't know how to set up his car properly, it's his problem. Laziness and ignorance are not an excuse.

and I'm driving FZR with default setup, hehe.

I'd rather let the demo users have only simplified physics because the physics and online play are the very basics of LFS. The various tracks and cars are just a cherry on top. I played the demo for a loooong time because all I wanted was realistic handling and free online play. Why did I pay for S2 then? Because I had some spare money and didn't know what to do with it. As I say, restrict the online play to (let's say) 4 players max on a server with some limited physics to give them just a glimpse (no custom setups for example). That would make them buy the full game, not even more free content. They already have enough, I know that, I've been there
