They did but not with a Zonda, it was rather some japanese car, but I'm not sure about that. And Jezza did it much faster ingame iirc.

Quote from Shotglass :the problem i have with this is that lighting in lfs and racing games in general isnt dynamic at all ... there is 1 light source and it doesnt move at all over the course of a race
so what exactly is the point of adding normal mapping if you wont ever see any effect ?

In fact, the light source is moving in relation to you, so you will notice the effect of normal mapping, however, you will not care in 150MPH.

I just wanted to save as many mouseclicks and buttons pressed as possible. Economisation it is called, I believe
Custom start/end points for a section of a track

I would like to be able to set a start and "finish" line where ever I desire on a track, so that I can practice a certain section (or corner) over and over again.

- as soon as I pass the section-end line, the car teleports to the section-start point automatically (no questions asked) and the time, speed etc will be displayed to provide feedback
- I can choose my initial speed and direction (do I want to start from standing still? do I want to start already moving to avoid accelerating every time?)
- I want to be able to watch a replay of my last run
- I want a ghost car of my previous (or best?) attempt
- a table or a graph of all times achieved would be useful at the end of a session
- most of all, I want a unicorn and a giant squid

I think it's easier to make a new PB (or even WR?) on a long track. I don't care about the length of the lap, when racing however. So I didn't vote.

Do you have any background intenet apps running? uTorrent slows down my net pretty badly, mainly the pings are higher, sometimes even 10 times the usual. I have uTorrent off when playing LFS online. High pings due to uT running can cause this IMHO.

Quote from shiny_red_cobra :I can't read these articles...

Well, you obviously can No offense.

Now, I guess that the morale of this thread is that there is too little known about LFS and many, many people are being misinformed by these cheap reviews.

This thread wasn't meant to be a flame war. It's just to show you what people think of racing sims abroad.
LFS vs rF (reviews) and some other too

There is a Czech automobile news website, that published a few short reviews of racing simulators (GT5, GTR2, GTL, F1R, RBR, LFS, rF, Race, TOCA and others). I took the liberty of translating two (IMHO) most interesting reviews for this community - LFS and rF. However, if you speak good Czech or Slovak, you can read the whole article on this page in Czech language.

Now...

LFS
...and here we are. I was looking forward to write about LFS. It is a very interesting game, literally unique. You cannot buy this game in no store and in fact, you will never hold it in a hand and read the short description in the back of the box. The thing is, that this game is some kind of a shareware. From the developers' web site, a little studio of passionates, you can download and try this game for free. The testing version contains 2 vehicles, one FWD and one RWD. There is also one track, quite short, where you can try out the cars. Perfect controls' physics, sounds and little details (the dash has a clock synchronized with Windows time, so that you always know, that time really is) are au contraire balanced with bad graphics and non-licensed cars. Whoever doesn't mind, can buy a full version at 12 pounds (again, at the web site of the devs), that will unlock more cars, tracks, championship and mainly the multiplayer. That will offer many hours of fun and with almost perfect physics even a certain dose of "training".

rFactor
A game, that does well and purposefully what is was made for. It is an ultra-realistic simulator in the style of GTR or Live for Speed. rFactor contains already mentioned real physics and unbelievable details in settings(?) - tyre wear, different fuel consumption depending on driving style, collision system, detailed settings of all car parameters, wings, shock absorbers, springs, height and position of driver's seat, stability control, ABS - in short, everything you can imagine. What is also worth mentioning is worse graphics and overall the environment is sparse. On the other hand it is a pure simulator, in which the already mentioned graphics can play a minor role. Definetly for true fanatics.

I personally find the LFS part a bit inaccurate, maybe a little biased too and it definetly doesn't offer as much information about the game, as the other parts do.
Please keep in mind, that these are my personal translations, so there might be plenty mistakes, but I however tried to provide the most precise and literal translation, while keeping the original meaning.

Enjoy

I'm running it on Vista, which has many background processes actively running, for instance the DWM, various svchosts, plus I have uTorrent, ICQ, Skype and Outlook running in the background. Rather than shutting them all down and then restarting (after quitting LFS), I prefer to give LFS high priority and it works flawlessly for me. Don't worry, I have no malware (I guess )

Yeah, it works Thanks a lot. Only that I changed the abovenormal to high and added a doublequote at the end of the line and it works perfectly

Quote from swingkid :open the shortcut on your desktop (right mouse , properties) and place this in front of the target
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start "" /abovenormal "

then it looks like C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start "" /abovenormal "C:\LFS\LFS.exe
then it always start in high priority

Thanks a lot, but are you sure with those double quotes? They usually come in pairs
LFS in High priority
breadfan

Hi everyone.

Every time I start LFS, I have to ctrl+shift+esc out of it and change its priority to High, because otherwise I experience some irritating lags, because other processes are chewing up my CPU power.

Is there any way to make LFS start automaticaly in High priority mode? I know that WinAMP has this built-in somewhere in its Options, but LFS doesn't. How do I force High priority on LFS every time it starts?

Thank you very much for your answers

It does sound like an F1-ish car, but driving the BF1 is like sitting on an overpowered drill with wheels In my opinion, the LFS cars need more grunt, they need to sound more agressive. When you put the pedal to the metal, it must be ear tearing and the engine must scream "Powaaaa!" (not literaly of course). That's why I drive the LX6 90% of the time. It's sound is just frightening.

I guess that the sounds are a very big downside of LFS right now. Although their functionality is very good and they give out lots of information, they simply don't feed my driving passion...and that passion is why I came to LFS.

Quote from Breizh :The functionality of the sounds is great but the aesthetics are mediocre.

Exactly my words. The sounds are the reason why I mostly drive the LX6, because it's the only car that has some decent howl and growl in my headphones and I play LFS not to win, neither to beat WRs, but for the sheer enjoyment of the driving.

Furthermore, I want exhaust backfires, engine damage noises, cockpit noises etc. For now, the FZR sounds like a lawnmower to me :P

So what's the vid about?

Quote from Bob Smith :I...IIRC, LFS used to operate as you are asking, but it was intentionally changed to how it is now. So it can't be a bug.

It's not a bug, it's a feature.

Where do you have the LFS installed? If it is in the Program Files folder, then try running the game with Admin privileges.

I would let the demo users watch S2 replays, but not play S2 content. I want them salivating all over their keyboards until they buy S2

I tried 1nsane and it was good fun, the wheel worked fine although it had some issues with force-feedback, the wheel kept vibrating all the time and the FF was very weak. I haven't tried the others yet but will.

Maybe you should just pay someone to do it for you.
