Good point, I like that. In fact, I like any sound improvements. I'd like to have some backfires on gear changes included. Like a dinosaur politely chuckling

Quote from ColeusRattus :IIRC, a portion of the price of CD and DVD writables is also meant to compensate for a possible "illegal" use of them.

I for one find it very alarming that nowadays everyone is considered a "pirate". It seems we're all guilty until proven innocent.

...USB drives and HDDs too (depending on their capacity).

I am wondering why, in the age of worldwide electronic distribution of content, artists are still dependent on those bloodsucking, greedy and morale-less distributors and producers. Sure, artists need money to pay for recording studios etc., but can't they take a loan at their local bank? And then distribute online with proper tools. It works for PC games (Steam for example, where independent games are offered, too).

I read lots of (propaganda, IMHO) articles, that tell you to buy CDs and not download them, because artists need the money they deserve. The thing is that artists (or game developers, if you will) get paid by their producers anyway. It's just those money-hungry producers that we are stealing from...and I don't care in that case. I have no problem with buying CDs from independent musicians that get the money that I pay and which they deserve. I just somewhat don't feel the need to support those large companies that exploit human talent.

Quote from aroX123 :
-See the drivers face through the visors.

I think that this kind of simulation is only for the sake of itself. If you want to permanently see a distracting reflection of your own virtual face (and you would soon want to change its skin to your photo) just wear a real helmet while playing.

I'd rather see some dirt appearing on the windscreen for example, that atleast adds some kind of strategy to the game, but stuff as "your own reflection" and "scratches on your visor" is just redundant in my opinion.

First, let's have the fun part of reality in THE sim, then we can experiment with the annoying part of reality (driver being exhausted, blurred vision, visor reflections, pit-crew accidents, unruly spectators etc.)

Quote from geeman1 :I thought that only works in non-full screen, which is why you are advised to make LFS windowed before alt-tabbing. But when LFS full screened alt-tabbing is not handled correctly, because full screen applications expect that the program will not lose focus. I am no expert on this, but I remember Scawen saying something about not being able to do much about full screen alt-tabbing glitches and seeing as many other games have similiar glitches when alt-tabbing while full screened it makes me think that there is more to this than programmer lazyness.

I think I've read somewhere that Alt+Tab is handled by DirectX so Scawen can't do much about it.

Quote from eRaptor :Hum... If he's a speedhacker, he should be banned from master server for good!

DaEmOn, if you wanna get back, buy a new S2 license, and make sure you don't try anything stupid with that one...

It's only fair that you support LFS after hacking online

So rich kids can do all they want, right? You gotta love capitalism.

Would you pay to be able to contribute to the community and have nothing off of it? Except some respect from people you don't know? IF your creation would be that good of course. I know I would pay for the editor.

Quote from BBO@BSR :Maybe this would work for people who are not in a team (but a lot are).

For me it's like this:
When I want to race/practice/whatever a specific car/track combo then I use our own Teamserver. After a while usually some people I know come and race with me or us.
If there are people that don't behave, then I or one of our Team usually kicks/bans them.

So in other words I don't have the need for something like you suggested and I wouldn't pay for an admined server (or like you wrote "high quality" server) as our team got it's own.

And if I/we don't race there then there is CTRA and leagues.

I am not in a team and never have been, but what you said makes sense and makes my idea somewhat pointless.
The reason why I have started this thread is that I am sometimes getting frustrated by the uncertainty of finding good online races. You can never be sure that the server you join isn't full of crashers (and the other bad kind). I just wanted to find a solution to my problem. Maybe I should join a team, but I am too much of a casual racer for that kind of commitment.
Paying for quality servers. Would this idea work?

I've recently had this idea. Would anybody be willing to pay a small monthly amount (2 GPB for example) for a high quality server? With that I mean:

1) A server that has an admin present at every certain time (let's say every work day 15:00-22:00) and access is available only for paying members.

2) Out of that time period, the server is not moderated, but available to all public.

3) The money will be used to pay for admin's time and server "maintenance".
3.1) Admin's time doesn't mean a full-time job, but rather a small compensation. Maybe instead of a monthly "pocket money" for the admin, an S2 voucher would be more suitable. Who wouldn't want to get paid for playing LFS?

4) Personae non gratae will be banned for some time (judging by the severity of their bad behavior). This will be a much bigger motivation for them since they've already paid for the month ahead. (Last day of the month = demolition derby )

5) Free access and cookies could be won in competitions.

6) Every day could be different, for example friday evenings could be short fastpaced races (to blow off some steam after a long week) and mondays could be endurance races for example.

The rest is left for you to discuss.

...and please tell me that I have spent 30 minutes of my life typing this only to "use the search button"

Quote from robind2 :so the g25 wontbe broken if i take it to the right wheel its working to left

No, don't worry, it will be fine. I do it with my wheel and it is 2 years old and still works perfectly. You HAVE to counter-steer to control the car. The wheel is designed to take a lot of thrashing without damage.
Enjoy your drifting.

You have to overcome the force of the FFB. Even though the wheel turns left, you have to grab it firmly and turn it right. Don't worry, you will not damage the motors in your wheel.

When my G25 was new, I was also afraid of the FFB and the wheel was spinning right round like a record baby right round round round (sorry, I got caught in the moment). You just have to hold the wheel tightly and turn it against the force of the motors.

Are there any usual-real-car-based tweaks? I'd like an XFG made into a 2001 Skoda Labia (I mean Fabia) 1.4 litre TSI.

Or something more insane like the Bugatti Veyron. Is there anything like this to be found?

I am actually toying with a thought of going to all cruise servers, causing havoc and getting banned from them all as a protest to the growing amount of cruise servers.

I prefer quality over quantity, so few good and full cruise servers is better than many empty ones.
