If I understand the OP correctly, he's saying that not many people will desire to purchase S2 because the demo servers give a bad impression of what the full product will be like.
He's 100% right! I had to twist my friends arm to buy S2 because of the idiots int he demo servers just ruined the experience for him. I too had the same worries before I bought S2. Infact I tried the demo ages ago and wasn't all that impressed with online play (the game's key feature) simply because everyone would just wreck on T1, drive the wrong way, spend the whole time doing burnouts or drifting when people are trying to race.
Only through word of mouth did I purchase S2, so there's little wonder that demo users outnumber licensed users. When S2 is finished, a new demo will have to be worked on, one that counters all of these problems on demo servers.
what what what? I've never noticed a meeting room?
Damn, that's awesome. I guess I'm not the only one who hasn't noticed it though... perhaps you should join that 'lobby' as soon as you choose 'multiplayer game'? Many games and server browsers do this.
Nice video, but should I point out that the guy you overtook had locked his brakes and was sliding when you made the move, or should I not take your video seriously?
The thing about people like Nutty Boy, is that they don't {appear to} realise that most servers are just started on people's machines as a means to race temporarily, they aren't dedicated services.
Have you ever started your own server? I do all the time and I often get people who're rude & demanding & it p1sses me off because I'm offering my bandwidth and computer services to allow the racing in the first place. Sure I'm polite about it and I don't go banning people for silly reasons, but some people need to realise it's probably some guy's temporary server so try put yourself in their shoes. Or go one step further and host your own server where no one can ban you. I bet you'll find yourself wanting to kick people from from time to time
as a newb observer to this forum, can I just point out that this forum is completely fine? All of the locks I've seen have been pretty mild like "ok this has been answered, locking now" *yawn*. There's no big deal here... infact it's almost as though you guys are looking for something to fix, when there's nothing broken :P
Fantastic forum by the way, I really enjoy hearing the devs, and I hope that doesn't have to stop when this place gets too busy. It's another reason why Scawen's locking & trimming here and there is only going to help keep this place the way it is, instead of the mad house you see in practically every other official game/sim forum.
Somehow I doubt the devs are focusing on UTC. Rather foolish to say the sim is losing focus. bye.
Small things like these can be quickly done and released very quickly, for all you know they're working on everything you talk about as we speak. We're not going to get these big changes in U16 or whatever, but in the V,W,X etc patches. Don't be so impatient, show some support for crying out loud.
there's an old track editor for S1 that I found - it didn't work with S2 but I managed to scavange the bird's eye view of the track for my preliminary designs in photoshop. So from that I pasted a screenshot of the satellite image of the track, & then manipulated it to my liking. Then I traced the inner & outer edges of the track with splines. It really helped to get things right before I started placing objects in the editor.
thanks kronvall - please let me know how you go with it online. I'm not very good at it - I get beaten at my own track all the time! There are quite a few tricky places though, where you can't quite go full throttle which will catch you out.
Let me know if anyone would like more of this kind of track. It took a while to do as I placed almost every piece with precision - you'll notice that the track has a 30* slant to it, no piece of track simply goes off in an arbitary direction. So anyway, it takes time but I think it's worth it. Any suggestions for a 2nd raceway?
How you value a good tracker depends on how much you depend on one. Do you use flight simulators such as IL2, lock on, falcon4 etc? Flying an old tincan in high energy turns whilst trying to keep an eye on a camoflaged target is VERY hard to do, so I need it to be as smooth and as natural as possible. Of course it's not completely natural, but it's as smooth and simple as looking with a mouse once you get used to it. It's matter of choice whether you pick the professional kit or the DIY kit, my reasons for using TIR should be obvious - but if you can get what you need out of a webcam then more power to you.
ps: I'd definately rather wear a cap & vector clip over a hollowed-out lime :P meow!
That's correct, and although LFS is still 2DOF, the 6DOF vector clip still works in stabilising the rotation as you described above. It'd be nice to have 6DOF in LFS, and I imagine nothing would have to change graphically in the cockpits as they seem pretty complete (no missing surfaces etc).
@ KiDCoDEa
I'm well aware that webcams can do the same thing, I tried it before I bought a TIR years ago. The fact is, most webcams (atleast back then) weren't good enough to achieve the smooth movements needed for flight simulators (I got TIR to help with situational awareness in dogfighting). If you want to save a few pennies with your webcam & buggy software then be my guest, but I'm going to stick with TIR since it's specialised for that purpose and it does it's job very well. Your argument sounds very much like a 'tall poppy syndrome'. Btw sorry for the ignorant comment, it was a bit strong.
I chose the le mans prototype, shifter kart, and muscle car.
The le mans mainly because I'd love to be in a grid full of those wide beasts fighting to get into the corner first, plus I wanna see if I can flip one like Mark Webber's merc (we need ground effect modelled!)
The kart would be nice, and eventually we could have little kart tracks at each venue, as the autocross is only good for flat tracks.
And the muscle car mainly because I love the big toe-in you get with the high centre of gravity in something like a fastback or a charger... and they sound great
I would have said V8 supercar, but the FXR seems pretty close... but it's not strictly a RWD is it?
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but the speedo doesn't work in reverse. Oh and whilst you're taking requests, can we plz get some go karts in the next patch? kthnxbai
I'm kidding of course Good idea with the test forum
I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank the devs, in particular Scawen, as I imagine his days are very long - I don't know how he does it, code all day AND frequent the forums... oh wait, I'm doing that now :S *back to work*
