see, the fact that an average SEVEN YEAR OLD pc can run lfs fine, proves LFS is a loooong way behind in graphics. Seven years is a long time in hardware and software development, should LFS really be held back this much?
I'd say you'd be guessing wrong there (I am a programmer tho this isn't my area)
My guess is that tracks are designed in a linear fashion, instead of one big area. Therefore, view distance denotes which bits of the track are rendered in terms of distance ahead of and behind the player's car.
speaking of, I'm having real trouble finding some logos (see attached). Can anyone please help? I have the PCT one, the others aren't that easy to find... I've tried BotW & some google action... I might just recreate them once i figure out what fonts they are (www.whatthefont.com).
Not a bad idea actually, considering a lot of people colour their name in flag colours anyway. Of course it should be optional. And it shouldn't be displayed on chat messages either, just the standings list.
I was racing on AS Nat Rev/FOX the other night and it was an absolute blast. Slamming brakes into t1 then an amazing sequence of fast windy track, followed by some more punishment on the brakes. Sensational! Nothing at all like the borefest that is westhill/FOX
I actually want a car below the FOX, as an even more junior series (Formula BMW?). The FOX is almost EXACTLY the same spec as a Formula Renault 2.0 car. I always thought the F08 was a mix between champ car and formula renault 3.5...
As for TC, I sure hope LFS gets a deal to create a 2008 spec F1 car! No traction control
As I said before, custom flags are similar to custom racing numbers. I was thinking about how racing numbers would be implemented (font textures, data files, etc) and it is simply too complicated to implement under the current skin system in LFS. LFS has such a powerful system in place to allow your car to look however you please, so if you want a racing number or FLAG then just paint it on This is of course less convenient for some, but it gives us total freedom. We can paint the flag anywhere we want, just as I have been doing with my skins thus far.
I've been thinking about this also, but there is a problem here. On the forum, we're known by one name only, thus adding a flag to it is easy. In LFS however, you can have multiple drivers so you need to select a flag for each... this means being able to select from a massive list of flags within the driver screen... which I'm sure is possible, though there are a lot of flags to choose from :-o
I've been wanting this for my formula renault FOX skins... in the mean time I've been releasing different versions of a skin with different flags and racing numbers to represent different drivers.
Flags are right behind racing numbers in my priority list, though they would be much easier to implement!
You're right, I've seen it time and time again. You can't have competition without foul play in online games.
So join a league you keep saying... it's not for me.. I've tried private leagues and tired of it quickly. Lots of fun but I prefer to race when I feel like it, not when I have to. That's personal preference though.
I'll leave this suggestion alone, but it's got me thinking more about having leagues built into LFS. It's a complicated suggestion and many problems would have to be solved to make it a possibility. I already started a 'custom series' thread a while back, but that's only a small piece of the puzzle.
eh it was just a suggestion (edit: I don't need to mention how much lfsw already rocks do I?)...
I don't understand how it will "ruin online racing", what exactly will change? The best thing about LFSW to me is the addictiveness of getting your PBs better and better (with the aim of becoming fast enough to win races). Maybe that's just me... but I doubt I'm alone :\
Anyway, I understand now that there is no standardising for lap times... infact that's probably why hotlapping was created in the first place, yeah? To avoid having to put checks in place for tweaks & trainers and other exploits. It's just a pity that hotlapping is so detached from online racing. I don't hotlap - it's much more fun racing at the same time with other people as I'm sure you'd agree.
It seems there's a fundamental problem here... we have all these lovely stats but we're left to a sort of honour system when we wish to compare them.
It sounds like the LFSTweak problem is infact a big problem for LFSW and it should be addressed, regardless of this idea. When someone can cheat to post times it makes comparing stats in any way, shape or form somewhat pointless. :\
Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline 2007 3 Mattias Ekström 4 Martin Tomczyk
This is the audi DTM of Ekstrom (Winner of 2006 Race of Champions) and Tomczyk. I'll be making the two variations of the car, with red & yellow finishings.
I'll get started soon!
ps: There is a similar skin already released, but I intend on doing the latest version of this car in as much detail as possible. I'm aiming towards a Red Bull skin pack eventually (I've got FOX, BF1 and FXO skins completed).
as a side note, how funny would it be if you could swerve your car to pickup the last drops of fuel to get your spluttering car to the finish line? lol...
+1 for a warning of any descript in the GUI, and an indicator instrument in cars where appropriate. The indicator on the GUI is realistic as it can represent either a warning light OR your crew radioing you. I highly doubt there's a racing series out there that would not warn the driver in one way or another that they are almost out of fuel.
Just enough time to get into the pits would put an end to most of the unrealistic scenarios where cars stop in the middle of the track soooo often (especially when race length has recently been increased).
I haven't watched beyond the first replay, but to me it is very obvious that you're simply uncomfortable with the controls. I could ramble on about driving techniques til I pass out but none of that helps if you don't trust your controls Simple remedy: keep driving mate! Once you no longer have to even think about pedals and gear shifts then you can think about setups and techniques. Don't worry tho, I'm hopeless with a wheel too, but if I had one i'd take the time to get used to it and I'd be up to speed eventually.
I don't think slow times due to lack of laps will throw off results too much. The percentile works off the top % of times, so regardless of how poor some drivers are, you're still competing to get into the elite group at the pointy end. Even so, I agree to about a 50 lap prerequisite would be a good idea.
This is a suggestion for Victor regarding LFSW. The statistics are such a wonderful tool for evaluating your driving but I find that the best laptime lacks any perspective. How hard would it be to show somewhere what your best laptime is compared to every other racer? I.e show what percentile you are in for each particular combo.
I often find it hard to get a snapshot of where you are at and which combo's you are lagging behind with. Is a 41.9 good at SO1 with FOX? I could check the world record, but that is not a good representation of the lfs population, instead a WR represents the best of the best with no indication how good everyone is.
Aiming to get into the top 10 or 5 percentile per combo would be a great goal, and dare i say it, an addictive goal.
