wow talk about missing the point. When one person is in charge of practically everything, NO WONDER scawen has no time to write blogs or talk about the sim's future or any of that. And as far as hiding under a rock goes, re-read my post, I was referring to Eric. The guy who makes the (wonderful) content, not the functionality. Under a rock would fit in really well there if you ask me. No one can say for certain what is going on in the background with regards to LFS development, not at all. We have Scawen keeping us up to date and working his butt off, and for that I am extremely greatful for... but I don't agree that everything besides the utmost latest features have to be kept secret. People like to be re-assured that their sim is going in the "right" direction. Hell, people have even paid for S3, and we don't have any information whatsoever for it!

It has nothing to do with being "spoilt". Wake up, this isn't 1990 and contact with developers for an online game is a pretty common thing. It's 2007 and to be shot down for politely asking for information on upcoming features is rather childish imo.

What you're asking for is a development Road Map. I've wanted to know what direction the dev's are heading also, as it helps us understand the little changes and quirks found in the sim.

The best example I can think of is the development of an ongoing space trading game called eve-online. The devs there always have their plans all laid out for everyone to see and discuss. It keeps people interested and involved in the game they enjoy so much.

They have sections such as Patch notes, Dev Blogs, In Testing, In Development, On the Drawing Board. Of course we get stuck into testing with scawen & victor, but we don't get much in the way of blogs, and we certainly get nothing about anythign currently in development or in planning. It either comes down to the size of the dev team (or lack thereof), or that Scawen simply does not with to commit to anything by giving us hints on his plans for the future of LFS. Personally, I think this is a mistake, and I really think they need a Community Manager to handle things like this. No one has a clue what's happening with LFS, and I bet many people have stopped playing because of this.

I mean, when was the last new content added to LFS? We don't even know if Eric is in fact working on the sim, or if he's off on holidays (I'm not making accusations, just pointing out the lack of info here).

I'm not criticising the work, I'm just questioning scawen's way operating... LFS shouldn't stay a 1-3 man operation forever, and I strongly think the "APLHA" label is no longer a sufficient excuse - LFS is too popular now. Expand!

whoops I think I got a bit carried away there :\

Why not just add it into LFS rules?

Cut the track/a chicane once (per 20 laps?), get a warning.
Cut it a second time, get a penalty.

and

if you cut the track and gain a position within +/- 5 seconds of the cut, you have to yeild that position within a lap or get a drive through, even if you didn't have a warning.

it sounds complicated but it should be able to be done without being exploitable.

PROTOTYPE 2

You won't see this car on any public roads. It has been designed exclusively for the race track in order to reach the limits of high performance, particularly in the realms of endurance racing. This V8-powered open prototype is somewhat limited compared to it's bigger brother, the PT1, but don't let that fool you; it is frighteningly fast.
Rear wheel drive

Engine:
3.4 liter V8 NA

Power:
375 KW (503 bhp) @ 10300 rpm

Torque:
370 Nm (273 lbft) @ 7500 rpm

Total Mass:

PROTOTYPE 1

This closed prototype racer is a pure-bred in endurance racing. It's massive diesel powered, twin-turbo V12 engine is second to none in Live For Speed.

Rear wheel drive

Engine:
5.5 liter Diesel V12 Twin Turbo

Power:
522 KW (700 bhp)

gee you guys love to argue :P

How can we put this suggestion into more detail? how about to draft up some technical specifications for our possible car?

Post suggestions and see if we can't come to an agreement on them!

Quote from Milanche :If admin is online that shouldn't be a problem.

what a silly and counter-productive thing to say. hell, let's not try and fix anything so long as the server admins can do it!

LFS is the perfect example of how to implement steering via gamepad.

Playstations' F1 games are the perfect example of how NOT to do it. I shelved my 06 copy after 2 days of frustration, and 07 is the same (though I didnt' buy it of course). The reason being is because you simply cannot steer fast! If I steer left, the game responds by SLOWLY turning the wheel to where I wanted it. It's so bad that I have to anticipate where I want to steer a full second before I arrive there. Hopeless.

In that case, the ping bars should be horizontal next to or under each driver's name in the connection list, and it disappears with the N key.

Guys why are you being so specific? I totally expect any implementation, should we be so lucky, would be a fictional car. I understand that some people would prefer roof over open pit, but at the end of the day any prototype car would fill the void in LFS at the moment. Diesel, roof, lmp1, lmp2, r10, r8, radical, toyota, porsche, it doesn't matter! Anything eric would build would be a complete hybrid anyway, and tweaked to suit the sim, not a real-life counterpart.

When you feel the need to nitpick someone's offering of help like that, you need to stand up, move away from your computer, and find something better to do with your time :P

Nice site - it's just a novelty to me but I can see how it could help someone who's not interested in making a professional skin.

pretty close to my proposal... but 3 protos is asking a bit much (even tho I agree on R10's). It's certainly a perfect addition to LFS, in one form or another.

Quote from spanks :you forgot the lxgtr 8 thing :]

this topic is about a prototype car/class

I will eventually expand the car list as my own personal wishlist :P I already have an F06 there, but that's OT

ah ha! I've been wondering why i've been so clumsy in the twitchy cars! Raced an LX6 earlier tonight and it was impossible.. i've probably been racing with smooth steer on 0.5 for weeks! I set it to 0.8 (in w34) and it's heaps more controllable now.

Cheers

I too have been wanting some protos for LFS. The American Lemans style of multi-class racing is exactly the kind of thing LFS can run with. LMP1 + LMP2 + GT1 + GT2. At the moment we have GT2 (FZR), but we really need a GT1 class, and of course at least one LMP class.

Check out this PDF, it explains the American LeMans Classes, and it really demonstrates exactly why it'd be so perfect for LFS

sometimes you get a clear tracking display but it still messes up in game, which is when iv'e found that light-filtering will help.

IL2 rocks, can't wait for SoW

Do you really think LFS was just a matter of "throwing everything they have" into it? I'm sure the LX8 wasn't included for very good reasons. I mean, look at the lx4 & lx6 on the lfsw charts - the LEAST used cars! Throw another very similar car into the game and the lx4 & lx6 will get used EVEN LESS as they share the least popular mantle with their new cousin the lx8. Scawen & co know what they're doing regarding design choices with LFS, they think long and hard about the impact to the whole sim, the bigger picture.

Quote from Shotglass :youd have to be blind to want to race such a car

funny, i thought the same about that lx with wings :P

The reason I posted the kitted up donkevoort is because it would provide us with another style of racecar similar to something like the Radical SR8 (see attached). Using the existing chassis of the LX, add enclosures (full body aero) over the wheels like the 2nd pic, we'd have something exciting to race with. A rear wing wouldn't be out of the question either.
