I voted to wait for something better. Sorry scawen, but they appear somewhat unprofessional... particularly these days when custom t-shirts are easily obtainable.

this may or may not be related to the latest patch, but I had a background process that made my LFS stutter out of control all the time, even though I would get 100fps. It was due to a cd burning application package called Nero Home (v7). When installed, it will run a process called NMBigMonitor.exe that simply runs all the time, even if you haven't opened Nero for days. It seems to cause your HDD to go crazy when playing LFS, and at one point I was even convinced that my new HDD was faulty and went into multiple support channels to try and remedy it.

As soon as I would "end task" on this process LFS would be good again. So of course I uninstalled the application... good thing it was only a trial.. I'll never use it again.

Other people may have this problem too... infact I recommend everyone who's having issues to look in their task manager and check each and every process on a process search website. Make sur eyou know what they are, and test LFS with and without them running (oen by one) to pinpoint the problem.

LFS does not use contrived limits like unlocks to make the "game" progress. Instead it uses very detailed timekeeping which keeps you wanting to go faster and faster, as your friends and online competitors keep doign the same. It's a constant challenge! Just when I think I've mastered a car, I find that I'm actually seconds off the pace... finding those extra seconds to be able to win a race is a REAL challenge. Playing LFS you will discover what racing is all about. Playing GT4 is really just playing a game... you keep unlocking things and the bar is artificially raised. You're basically on tracks, on a set path that is nothing at all like the real racing world.

Trust me... get online and set about getting up to speed to the other drivers. It won't be easy (which is why we suggest the UF1000 first - you could also try the FOX for a fast open-wheeler that is easy to drive). Use LFS World to track your performance, keep pushing hard to get that "Personal Best" message on your screen as you cross the line. It's fun, it's really addictive, and it's always changing.

I don't understand your comments on cars being slow... perhaps you should watch some other drivers online and see if you're doing something wrong?

Understanding the weight tranfer of your car is important too, and you can usually guage this well in LFS. Dropping the anchor and turning will throw a LOT of weight onto the outside front, so that's why easing the brakes and steering in unison helps to avoid massive understeer. Imho it's all about weight! I wonder if the "force" view helps here?

Why don't they just hire a sound guy? Scawen is doing great so far, but doing the sound for this sim is a full time job!

Well it's a good start, so keep at it

random potato shop tip #43:
Blending Options on a layer is your friend. Ensure your decals or all on seperate layers, then right click the layer and choose blending options. From there you can do some very handy stuff... for example, "Stroke" is perfect for decals to give them an outline. You could try a thin white outline on those black decals perhaps.

I don't mind the white either... keeps the car less busy. Great skin, it should be included in an LFS patch

I haven't been able to find a Mark Webber helmet for LFS so I set about to whip one up... and considering I'm making a bunch of redbull skins I thought I'd jump the gun and add a few redbull logos. Who knows what his helmet will look like in 2007, but this will do for now!

I've skimped a bit on detail with the crown as the helmet skin is a real pain to line up... the lines on the back were a nightmare! I suck at helmet skins

thanks... yeah I agree the front-end looks like a caviliar, but the fxo's body shape is pretty close to the Monaro... pity we can't customise the car's headlights & aero - how much would *that* rock?

Quote from Hurts2bStock :Nice work on the LX4 I have to like that one more, however, only because Pontiac is somewhat of a four letter word to me....lol

haha believe me if it weren't a replica skin I'd put a Holden badge on it, since that's what it really is.

Ok I've just addressed the quality issue and re-uploaded the file... sorry for the multiple versions. Please re-download!
The problem was the alluminium layer was set to the wrong blend - I've now used overlay which works nicely... no detail loss at all (and yes the default layer was on multiply already, that wasn't the issue). I've also uploaded the 2048 res version btw I know the default layer is jagged from resizing but I never notice that on the skin anyway. Everything else is high res.

Thanks for your comments guys

I got sidetracked and made a Red Bull lx4 skin: http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=298744#post298744

I'm not sure if I should release the FXO skin yet though, there are a few small things I'd like to address...

Quote from Stew2000 :Not too sure about the yellow but thats excellent

Thanks

I've seen many caterhams with the very same yellow nose, plus it's an adaptation of the Red Bull F1 car's yellow nose (albiet much bigger)

edit: re-uploaded correct version (had the shade layer turned off) it's 2:30am gimme a break :P

If you liked this skin, have a look at the Red Bull FXO I'm working: http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=17157

Rhys Millen Red Bull Pontiac (FXO/FXR)

This will be one of many Red Bull skins I'm planning on making. I've also started an XRG skin but it doesn't have as much potential as this one. I'll eventually get this skin over to the fxr, but I was after an fxo skin first.

Anyway, I came across this one on google.. Rhys Millen's red bull drift car - a Pontiac GTO (I think - Aussies would know it as a Holden Monaro). It's a very close match to the FXO/FXR. This is the main image I've based it off:
http://www.speedtv.com/_assets ... large/101923_dsc_0244.jpg

I have a few shots of the details on the side as well which helped determin which decals I needed. I didn't have any shots of the rear of the car, so it is purely speculative. However, I've just found a tiny pic that shows the back, so I have some modifications to make - though I wasn't far off, suprisingly. I'll attach the main photos I have, so if you have any that show more detail please post them.

Besides the rear of the car, which I will redo tonight, the main issue I have is the Bridgestone logo on the front wheel arch. I had trouble getting it to warp correctly, plus the texture doesn't map very uniformly. There's a lot I don't know about photoshop... is there a way to align an image to a path? I had to do it by hand with the warp tool. That being said, I have some photos that show the bridgestone logo that is just straight... so it has changed at some point in time - which one should I go for?

Please let me know what you think, feedback of any kind welcome

I think you'll find that many quite famous tracks use simple terms like "First Corner" "Last Corner" "Straight" "Chicane". I think they should be default names that gain favour over anything with a low score.

As far as reverse tracks go... well that's tricky because computer game culture practically invented the concept - as far as I'm aware real world tracks don't run reverse..? I could be wrong.

I think names should be based off the forward variant, and when racing rev configs you should just accept the fact that you're racing against the grain... T1 will be come last.

I don't think you get my point here... they are 2 completely different corners that share a bit of tarmac. People are in a track config making suggestions on the site, unaware that these suggestions are for all other configs as well - resulting in names that make little sense!
