no surprise the test subjects drove more aggresively, when they had to play Burnout, Midnight Racer and Need for Speed.
For me, playing LFS made me more cautious and more aware of what others are doing... I had 3 car accidents in my life... All were only light crashes, with scratched door, bent suspension, etc.... All before I found LFS... Now, after almost 6 years with LFS, I had no accident at all and I drive many more kms per year than before due to my job...
well the data about your past races since s1 are on LFSw, thus you can figure out the time the races took you... of course the time spent online after the race has finished and before a new is restarted would not show in the pre-Z era...
In the "Online racer stats" we have the driven km/miles is LFS... It would be a nice addition to know how much time it did cost us to drive this distance...
Maybe it would be possible to have two values> one for total time spent online and the second to show the total racing time (the sum of all laptimes which are in the details of "online race results")
if you read the whole thread, you would know that I noticed (5th post)... the title of the thread and the first suggestion is a "bit" older (september 2005)...
no, LFSW does not need to know who is the owner of the server, only which skins are used... (as I suggested, server owner would write the names down in the server config file, LFSW would find the skin according to the filename)
added storage & bandwidth > ads skins are all 512x512, size about 200kb ... thus the maximum used space with ~750 licensed servers, ~30 ads files per server, is 4,5GB in server skins... compared to car skins> ~20.000 licensed drivers (my rough estimate and I guess there are more than this), 20 cars, 400kb each skin = 160GB
so 160GB vs 4,5GB... is 2,8% noticable? I don't think so...
moderating the content of the ads? ain't it the same as with skins? (assuming ads-skins are on LFSW)
the files are the same size (some even smaller) than the skins and you don't have problems joining different servers and dowloading skins of people racing there (making it an option is obvious)... more load on LFSW... yes, the same like there were +5 people on the server you are joining...
yes, it would require some work to get it working right, not losing the default ones or the already downloaded ones... maybe the server owner could specify the filenames used for his ads-skins in the config file of the server and upload them to a special slot on LFSW...
Yes, using a real car is almost the same as using a G25 and LFS... The 1st prize in the 1st Czech LFS League - last year's CarDo Racing Octavia Cup were a few laps in a real race car (Skoda Octavia) on a racetrack (racetrack in Most, CZ). The winner ( windmouse ) did not even have a driver license (too young) and never drove a real car before and he had no problems on the track... On the contrary, the people from CarDo Racing were very surprised how nicely he drove and even followed the ideal line...
If you get into a sandtrap with most of the cars with slicks, you are stuck and your race is over... IRL in short races too, but in endurance racing the track marshalls can push your car from the gravel and you can contine. Or with the MRT5, you end up facing a wall and finito... IRL you get out, push your cart 1m backwards and off you go...
That's why I think it would be good to have a "push" button in LFS... Let it be delayed say 15sec before it starts working (marshalls running to your car, you getting out of the MRT5), but then your car would start moving 1 km/h in desired direction regardless of surface, but limited by an angle (so you could not be pushed up a wall on FernBay )...
i would say tracks ... when I worked at the second largest racetrack in our country, told the owners about LFS and what was their oppinion on having their track in LFS, they were all for it and the only condition they had, was that the track must be done accurately, with all banners etc., they did not even want some money for the "track license" ... that's more than two years ago...
The same with real car manufacturer... I asked at Skoda Auto, they understood that it was more advertisement for them then the other way around... but in both cases the devs said maybe sometime in the future... some time passed and nothing... so I gave up on this...
I think a proper damage model is also very important part of a racing simulator. Now with the very forgiving damage model, many people go with no brains into T1. They hit a few people and usually they get away with it. Should the damage model be better. Do this and your race is over. Many people would then drive much more carefully than they do now... The same with damage to the suspension... Now it is ok to cut the curbs on some FernBay tracks... IRL you could maybe do this once or twice before your suspension says goodbye...
and if everybody would be a foreteller, everybody would know what he will do in life, tests would be not needed, because everyone would know what will be in the test, so no need for schools, etc.. etc.. i other words everybody would know their fate the time they were born and thus they would not need to work for something, because they will know what will come...
I think this option should be only for offline, for people to learn where to drive... using it online could give people some advantage in races and on the other hand could make them more dangerous while not driving on the line (during overtaking)...
i know FCV disables it, but i don't see why should we force someone to use cockpit view...
well, you would get the same trouble in a real car unless you modify the pedals (I was unable to heel&toe on my last car, because the pedals were placed wrong)... so as I see it you have 2 possibilities>
1. modify the pedals
2. do not heel&toe, just engage the clutch, downshift through all gears to the desired one, and then when you go off the brakes, blip the throttle and disengage the clutch...
