It seems to me that everyone on there (even the veterans) started out posting with the same confusion as we have, asking the same questions etc. Just that after realising that no one really believes in a flat earth, they've joined in with the little game as it were. Some people must have way too much time on their hands I guess.
Thought I'd post some screenies of how LFS looks with higher exposed skies (I gave the skies more "exposure" in photoshop), and a few hi-res bits. Another thing which I feel improves the look of LFS, is darker cockpits, which I've also edited in photoshop (the .dds files). Attached are unedited screens.
P.S. I'm sure if I got Ekar's textures they'd look even better.
Edit: Added a copy (almost) of screenie1 but with some in game bloom effect. I don't like driving with it though, as you seem to lose some definition, even if you turn the actual bloom effect off in the ini file.
Thanks Gnomie and Ekar for posting your setting's, it helped me tweak my own a bit more. I've attached what look's best on my PC setting's wise.
However; I've realised that if you just fiddle with the brightness of the skies in LFS, you can get it looking as good as with the bloom effect, without the horrible fuzziness / haze.
I used the exposure setting in photoshop to significantly over-expose the skies, and I think the result looks more realistic. I believe IRL the sky is much brighter than anything else, even on an overcast day. In LFS, the skies are barely brighter than anything else by default.
Another thing which I believe would make LFS look better, would be if the areas in shade were darker, and areas in sunlight were brighter. Is there any way to manually edit the lighting like this?
A few people seem to be using hi-res tyre / track textures. How difficult is it to follow some simple rules? Blackout has the best screenies by far at the moment IMO.
Ekar, could you upload both the ini file and dll file please? I'm not sure if the dll file becomes changed in some way, because when I use your settings, I get mental bloomage.
Gnomie has the best screenies IMO. It'd be great if I could get it looking like that. I Know you posted your ini settings Gnomie, but could you post the dll as well? Cheers (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=771640#post771640)
Last night Andy Green (driver) and Glynne Bowsher (engineer) were in Loughborough, to give a public presentation about the Thrust SSC project. I think it's the first presentation they've done about it in a long time, and it was incredible the story they told.
I didn't like Kev's comment on the whole land speed record thing though. These guys were completely broke several times, and yet the determination to do something which many people said was not possible was pretty amazing. We need more people like that in the world, especially Glynne and the other engineers.
Andy came across as being a little arrogant, typical fighter jet pilot who loves himself, but it was impressive the trust he put into the engineers to drive that thing.
To the OP car, that probably won't beat the landspeed record, but the Australian one has a pretty good chance.
Edit: Never mind Kev, I noticed you said "good luck to them", but it ain't pointless in my eyes.
But surely LFS would need more info, i.e. a z position, as well as the direction and x / y positions like now, which would require more bandwidth and stuff?
Plus I would think the lag would be so much more noticable in 3D as it is now on lfsremote.
What? Putting words in my mouth? I'm happy with my penis as it is thanks.
1. Unfortunately hurling abuse at people just because you "think something is shite" isn't going to make you popular with anyone on this planet.
2/3. Either make constructive critisism or simply don't comment at all. Unless of course putting other people's down work inflates your ego, and makes you feel better that is.
I set up the braking force in setups to be able to brake fully at high speed at the most grippy braking zone on the track without the wheels locking. This means in a car with d/f you will need to start lifting gradually off the brake pedal again, or any downhilll sections or similar, and it works for me.
Without modding anything, I'd say just fiddle with different braking forces in your setups, maybe even fiddle with the brake linearity setting in LFS (can't remember what its called but there is an adjustment in LFS for the pedals). In general keep trying until you feel comfortable.
Edit: I also migrated from the squashball mod with an ms wheel to a G25.
