It takes about 20 minutes to download, install, and play the demo. So try it out.
Gran Turismo karts are fun (for about 10 seconds), but don't really drive anything like proper karts, and ALL the tracks are huge and flat out almost everywhere.
This sim actually has real tracks, and the physics are 100x better than GT karts, and 10x better than anything in rFactor. Just because visually some funky stuff is going on at the wheels doesn't mean things aren't modelled correctly physically. Though I do admit it's extremely likely shortcuts have been taken, and there are flaws (castor setting seems to make too much difference to handling, FFB goes oddly light during high speed cornering), it's really surprisingly good.
Completely retarded website, I voted in 3/4 different categories until it refreshed and said "You have already voted in this category." , and now I can't vote at all for any category. Tried deleting cookies, still doesn't work.
True, but I'm not moaning about the physics, despite them obviously being hugely simplified. It wouldn't take a monumental effort to make some smaller and twistier tracks with shorter straights and tighter hairpins.
Is it just me who thinks the Karting could actually potentially be really awesome if it weren't for one huge problem?
All the Kart tracks are friggin huge. Most of the early special event ones are completely flat out everywhere, and you only need to do some braking for 1 or 2 of them in the whole game. Even in the course maker, I can't create anything as short and twisty as you would see in real life. It's a joke lol. The minimum number of sectors in the course maker is 2, and when you add any kind of complexity to the circuit you end up with something nearly 2 miles long.... I'm pretty disappointed how little the GT5 devs seem to know about actual Karting.
Just the default set with soft tyres and 4 L fuel. Reduced castor as well to 8 or 9, can't remember.
Wheel settings and stuff I think are important too, I have my wheel set to 210 degrees in control panel, with 100 FFB in game and 0 damping, rotation thingy is off.
I haven't really fiddled that much with the setup options, so a 42 is quite probably possible. Though I need to stop messing around with this and do some work! :P
Yeah, I think real karting is easier, since you feel more part of the kart itself etc. And yeah I also found I had to fiddle around with all the settings to get it to feel right, but once you get it it's fantastic.
Edit: RasmusL, I found I had to wait a while between loading stuff, with nothing happening on the screen, but it seems stuff was just loading in the background.
This is awesome! The fundamentals feel fantastic, and the castor setting makes loads of difference to the karts handling. Hands down the best kart sim yet.
Down to a 45.000 after an hour or messing around. 43 is possible probably.
I'm after a new board as my current one only has a 4x PCIe slot, and can't run my CPU past 2.1 Ghz (ASRock 4CoreDual), so I think it's bottlenecking things quite badly in iRacing.
I need more than 2 slots for RAM since I have 3 sticks, and I want to be able to overclock my CPU (E2140) to around 3 Ghz if possible, which apparantly it will do with the stock cooler. I'm looking to spend the minimum really.
Well it's pretty much as awesome as I was hoping. Driving it around Silverstone gives a weird sense of deja vu, after watching so much onboard F1 footage over the years.
It's fairly easy to drive under the limit, but once you start to push things it really gets interesting. Needs very good throttle control at low speed which is great, and there's so many setup options which might cause my brain to explode. My only gripe is that the tyres feel very under damped, which leads to a bit of a "pogo" effect after some bumps / curbs, but hopefully we can tune that out with the setup options. Best sim experience yet though easily.
Edit:
Pretty much put me behind at the end? Did you not see us fighting for 2nd again on the final lap?
Anyway, it obvious to me the admins aren't going to interfere with the result and take action over our protest, despite how legitimate it might be. So when all is said and done, congratulations to SR and especially Conquest, you've all done a great job this season, Inex too.
But it did happen, and the move(s) by SR approaching the hairpin was naughty. You're the one saying if if if, I'm the one stating what actually happened.
