Disaster for me. I timed out 3 times during qualifying, each time during my flying lap. The time I ended up setting was the first flying lap I managed to complete.

I had an OK start for the sprint race, though I was passed by one of the RAC's alongside me. Unfortunately Niall got caught up in some contact with Klouczech and then me as I had no room to go on the inside, nor have I seen the replay for exactly what happened. Anyway after that I was hoping Niall would catch and pass Troy, but Troy was a little too strong, so I had to pass Niall instead. A couple of minutes after passing Niall, my internet died yet again, and that was that. I couldn't get it to work at all for the final race, sorry if I made anyone wait.

I'm finding it a struggle to get up to speed in LFS these days, and going into this race without practice hurt me quite a lot. Qualifying wasn't very good at all, though I was lucky to not place lower than 4th.

The sprint race was more of the same, where again my driving was pretty messy, but with Niall unfortunately timing out, I was able to get 3rd.

I only managed to get my pace sorted over half way through the main race, by which time Troy had passed me. I knew I still had a good chance to catch and re pass him if I got my head down, and the last several laps were very intense, I felt as though we really couldn't have been pushing any harder, and I just couldn't get enough slipstream to make a pass before the end, so another 3rd place it was.

Grats to Rudy though, again flawless performance, me and Troy have our work cut out if we're gonna fight for the champ!

Quote from hrtburnout :Bluebird, what would you recommend for about €150?

I know I'm not Bluebird. Well the prices for anything by Logitech etc are currently a rip off, so I would definately recommend the AE's referred to in the OP for that budget.

Quote from PMD9409 :It's a shame on what happened to you Dave, Nolan said you had it in the bag before your connection crapped out.

Yeah it was looking very good. Great results for you Core guys though, and grats to Nolan for the win.

Quote from anttt69 :Will you be representing england Dave in the club finals? They could use a few more quick division 1 drivers.

I've got an exam on Monday, which I desperately need to revise for, and with my internet in its current condition I'll probably time-out so I have to give it a miss.

Well that was promising while it lasted. Got place into the 2nd split, on pole position. I lost the lead into T1 because I chose to start in 2nd (fail) during the rolling start, but after a couple of laps battling with Juan Diego Baez, I managed to pass him without much trouble into the chicane. From there on I was just trying to settle into a good rhythm and pull out a lead without overdueing it. On lap 20 though, my internet started to show signs of lagging, eventually turning into all red bars and eventually disconnecting. I knew there was a possibility of it happening during the race, but it was starting to show more reliability of late. A word of advice to anyone considering an ISP, do NOT EVER choose virgin media. Me and my housemates had to go with them because the house had a virgin line fitted and would be too expensive to get a BT line.

I had a 12.7 second lead from Nolan Scott (go Nolan! I expect nothing less than the win ), who is now presumably still leading, I think Ken O'keefe is in the top 10 too, so it is / was a good showing for LFS'ers. I also noticed from watching some of the replay that my throttle was occasionly spiking to 95% throttle or so, so overall a very bad day for hardware issues..

On the plus side I should have gained SR from only one inc, and I now have time to revise for and not fail my final uni exam this semester on monday.

I agree with Ray. LFS teaches you car control which you can apply to real life, along with many other things. Of course before you push the limits IRL you have to get accustomed to the difference in feel, and especially the feedback sensory overload, but once you do that, you can apply your knowledge from driving in LFS (or any other realistic sim for that matter).

Most people are really taken by suprise the moment they have to start controlling the rear end of a vehicle by countersteering. Anyone who's competant with LFS won't have this problem.

Finally managed a decent lap. 1:37.738 in offline testing, but I lost over 2 tenths exiting the chicane when the rear just didn't want to keep it's ass in line. I've attached it if it can help someone.

Gah, over 2 MB so won't fit here, stuck it on mediafire instead: http://www.mediafire.com/?ththgmyjkzt

Quote from Niels Heusinkveld :Also don't forget that in proper blind test, properly encoded 128kbit mp3 can most likely not be distinguished from the original non compressed audio..

I can't tell the difference from 192 up, but certainly can from 128 up. Anyway, most music on people's itunes and ipods and other icrap is generally overcompressed, several time encoded rubbish anyway. Heck, alot of people are satisfied with listening to music from youtube..

Can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm going to step in here and defend Logitech. First of all, I appreciate and desire good sound quality. Secondly, most of the time speakers sound shit because the source is terrible. Good speakers will never make 128 Kbit mp3 files sound any good.

Anyway. Before I left home for uni, I used to listen to my music through a pair of vintage Celestion ditton 44 series ii's, hooked up to a Marantz amplifier. They sounded absolutely fantastic.

My housemate has a set of AE 2.1 speakers that the OP bought. They sound great (the subwoofer has a wooden cabinet FTR). But like most 2.1 systems with such small satellites, there is a degree of seperation between the lower end of the sats and the upper end of the sub. The sub has to produce a lot of midrange to compensate for the small satellites, which is OK if you have all three speakers reasonably close.

I didn't buy a set of AE's though. I decided to go for the cheaper Logitech Z2300's. TBH I am happy enough with them, they are great for uni. The subwoofer is very powerful, too much so in fact on the default bass setting, but is fine on 1/4 or so, and the satellites are suprisingly good, even without a tweeter. They do however lack any substance in the lower midrange, and the set looks quite cheap and tacky if I'm honest. But play a good quality piece of audio through them, with the sub on low, and they sound pretty close to the AE's if I'm honest. They also make for great houseparty's when you wanna get obliterated, as they go very very loud - louder than the AE's. Can't really argue with that for 30 pounds less, especially when you're a student.

Logitech do go down the route of marketing BS to an extent, and the cheaper systems (x-230 etc) are cheapy rubbish, but I think the Z systems are pretty good value.

Well that was actually quite good fun. I wasn't originally going to race on LFS besides MoE again until the new patch and focus on iRacing instead, but this league enticed me back.

Qual: I was hoping for better, but I couldnt quite string a great lap together and Troy took the 2nd spot infront at the very last minute.

Race 1: I timed out just before the race, and my bars were turning red just before the start, so I panicked a little thinking it was going to happen and outbraked myself into T1. This dropped me behind audimasta for a few laps, allowing Troy and Rudy to pull away. Their pace was very good, so I settled back for 3rd.

Race 2: I got a good start, and a good first lap, slotting into 3rd early on. I was just focusing on not overdoing things to keep the tyres nice while keeping the leading RAC's in my sights. Rudy showed up behind me before long, and I could only hold him off for so long, before he scampered past. This allowed me to catch the leader's and pass them to settle for a 2nd place finish. Niall also drove a good race and kept on my ass most of the way, so it's not a bad team result.

I think the cars were fairly matched in qualifying, maybe the RAC was a few tenths faster, but in the race with FZ tyre management Rudy was impossible to beat, so grats to him.
