Simple Bandwidth Question

I'm curious if I'll need to upgrade to host. I guess I need to know if my connection is good enough, because I'd like to be able to host some races, like 12-16 cars would be nice. Presently I'm on a 10mb connection, with 800k upload, but I can upgrade to 15mb, which comes with 2mb upload, will this be necessary to do what I'd like? Or is my present connection enough. Btw I play other games with 64ppl no problem, but I've only ever hosted as many as 8-10 ppl (Enemy Territory).

Quote from agm_ultimatex :The big difference between racing and a game, is the feel. You don't feel the car slow down, whip through a corner, you don't feel the clutch, the weight transfer when braking, etc.

Yup, it certainly would I've got a good coil over suspension but there's only so much you can do with a live axle...

I just found these video's that I recorded a year and a half ago, I had just bought my mustang and was testing it a bit. It's all stock, and I baby'd it pretty good, shifting it easy and not redlining it.
Just for fun.

And here's a video from this past summer after a full exhaust install and some bolt-on's. Dyno'd just under 400bhp at the wheels. I'm kinda blasting some music but the point was to get the sound of the exhaust, you can still hear it ok over the music though.

What exactly is a cruiser? Still kinda new to playing online sorry, I've seen this mentioned a lot, and I'm not really sure what it means. I'm thinking people that just... cruise around the track?

I'm so jealous!! What do I need to do this? I'm currently looking for LCD's, so it's an option, and I'm very interested.

My video card is a 8600GT Overclocked Edition with dual dvi output, I guess I need an adapter, and is this card powerful enough to do this, or does it even make a difference rendering the game?

I would be willing to do it, how much power is required, never tried makin' a video.

I went onto the Oval server because I didn't wanna cause any hell for anyone
My favorite track is Blackwood, and I spend most of my time on it and City Long.
I think what I'm looking forward to the most is not having to wot right at the apex and sliding through the turn, killing my tires and tripling my chances of wrecking. I wanna be able to ease on the throttle and use every inch of track I have.
For example, for every four laps on BL, atleast one lap I'll either wreck at turn two, or be all over the place and lose 2 seconds off my lap time (RWD). I guess I'm looking forward to throttle control as much as steering.
Been playing 2 yrs offline on KB...

And I've just recently decided to make the move to online, I dunno why I never bothered, I guess I just liked the simulation so much, I didn't care, or maybe cause I play mostly FPS games I never had time...I don't really know why I guess.

Anyways I just recently realized how uncommon it is to play on the keyboard, and after seeing how people drive with wheels and such, I'm very much in the market for one. But I'm already so used to the keyboard, I just like it soo much, although errors with rwd cars are too common.

Anyways any advice for making the switch? Or should I just grab a wheel and learn all over? What if it turns out I'm better on the KB, since I have probably three or four hundred hours on the game in SP..

Any tips on re-learning the game, and what's a good wheel/pedal system, I'm a complete noob to this kind of hardware so treat me as such . I figure I can afford 2-300 if it's "well worth it".

I'm a bit of a noob, online anyways, been playing offline with default and race_S setups since S2 was released....Anyways, I'm not working and don't go back to school for quite a long time, and I just built a new computer, so I'd be happy to host for everyone. I think it's strong enough to host "with graphics" so I can play along.

If this sounds good for you guys, maybe you can tell me If my computer can host or not.
AMD Athlon64 X2 4400+ 2.3GHZ *2
2048MB PC2 5300 667mhz ram
8600GT Overclocked Edition
And I guess most important: 10mbit download=logical 1.2mb/sec download
800kb/set up=logical about 90-96 kbps upload
Looking at the settings in the game for hosting it says I can safely host 16-18 players, at my max bandwidth it said 20 but I don't trust that.

Anyways I'd really like to host, is my machine capable?

Guys don't feel bad, there's just something strange in the newer versions. Example:

A while back I ran the game 100+fps at all times with a amd64 3700+/1.5GB DDR400/Radeon 9600Pro.

Now what's very weird, I see a huge decrease in performance with the system I just built. With the same graphics settings, I get about 2/3 the performance, with amd64 X2 2.3ghz/2GB 667mhz/8600GT OC.

Quick question tho, which hogs more resources, having 10 cars in front of ya online, or 10 AI? Cause once I get more than 16-18 AI cars, if they're very near me, my frame rate drops to the mid to low 30's, which is unplayable for me. Am I correct in assuming it's not all the gfx on the screen, but the AI hogging the cpu?

Thanks guys, I'm gonna try the mouse for a while and see how I like it, I'll be sure and give it time and not quit on it right away, I'm sure there's a learning curve. Again, thanks.

Also, for keyboard use, I don't use fast turn, just the regular left/right/ turn buttons, anyways my question is what's a good steer rate, or is it something that's different for everyone? I think my steer rate is 60 and return 55.

P.S. My best so far with the XFG ( I use this the most for practice, and mostly on Blackwood, I also use the FXO for practice to see how different the race lines are between the two. Occasionally I'll try the, ehh, Porsche looking car and the XRT Turbo for practice with RWD.

Question about playing on keyboard - no mouse

How tough is it to play this game with a keyboard only, I plan to eventually get a wheel and all that, but I wanna know if playing this way is a major handicap. Btw I've been playing offline for a bout two years, and recently started playing online. Anyways I'm curious how much of a disadvantage it is, until I can get my wheel and stuff. I guess I've gotten pretty good with the keyboard, but still I"m behind an average of about 2-5 seconds per lap compared to people with wheels and such.

It seems I can compete for the most part, but it's just so tough having to mash the throttle coming out of corners at or around the apex, rather than just feathering it, to prevent throttle oversteer. My ghetto rememdy is to go ina little slower, to come out faster, but this is only a slight advnatage it seems on a corner with a long straight ahead of it, because others have the same idea, and do it normally with their wheels and such, so although it helps me, it's just not enough when facing tough competition.

I guess my question is, should I even bother trying to play like this, or wait for a good wheel etc etc, cause it seems to be what's killin me, the turning is touchy, I'm sure you guys know why, and also having to mash the throttle with 100% power rather than ease on it through the apex and and get on it when hte car feels on center and then can just wot when I'm coming out, preventing throttle oversteer. Recently I had to hit the apex a little short, comin in slow, and working my way into wot in order to come out of the corner faster than usual, but this only seems effective at all on a corner before a long straight. And others have the same idea's, and they're using wheels etc etc, so really it's no advantage for me.

I just don't have the money right now for a good wheel, but I love the game enough that I'll be getting one for sure when I can.

Advice? And sorry if I'm not to clear, I'm very tired.
Thanks for any imput, hope I was clear enough, though I'm sure anyone who's used a keyboard only for controls should understand what I mean, and even others. Pressure sensative throttle and a wheel must be sooo nice.

I didn't play online until 6 weeks ago. Heh. Anyways a good way to improve, well, what I did, is I set it to pro, and I always use a slower car, or a car harder to control, it forced me to do well, and when I went online, I was consistently in the top 10 of 30 or so, which made me happy, I thought I'd do horrible, though I gotta admit, it's different online, you get nervous sometimes, trying to avoid hitting people, etc etc.

Make sure you understand how to take the first turn, understand the flags, and you'll be good. I recommend being kind, you will get far more respect by letting someone pass, rather than holding someone off for only one position.

What do you guys think of these games? I have both, and of course LFS, I like them all, but after playing lots of LFS it makes the others feel so fake, but I guess they have their qualities. Is LFS the most realistic racing Sim out? I can't seem to find anything better, honestly. Also, are there any other Sims as good as LFS that I don't know of, any recommendations?

The game runs 100-150fps for me, but I admit it really enjoys the power of a AMD64, IMO it doesnt need anything like that, if someone can't run it as it is, they need to upgrade their cpu and/or video card, because I think the engine does fairly well as it is.

I would like to see a Mustang, but not an older one, the newer one's are much better. I admit I'm a bit biased, I own 3 mustangs, and I love racing etc etc. Regardless I would love to see some V8 cars in the game. They're not as limiting as some of you may think, with the RPM redline and HP, especially the newer Mustangs. I own a '99 GT with a mongoose kit, and a '03 Cobra with a KB2.2. I run them both to around 7k, and the HP is very near the torque.

Anyways, cars I would like to see in the game;

SN95/S197 Mustang GT/Cobra
RX-7 RX-8
R32/S4 Vag
..too many to list.

I guess any V-8 Coupe. Myself I love V8 coupes, I would love to see some Mustangs, and/or Vipers, and even some BMW M3/M5 and Audi S8 etc etc. The new era of V-8 Coupes are extremely fast and competative. Although I mostly like VAG and Ford, I'm a fan of anything fun, and there's a lot out there I would like to see. Even just one V8 coupe would make me happy. 400hp/400torque, 180mph!!!
