Crash Z20

Application Error
Faulting application lfs.exe
version 0.0.0.0,
faulting module d3d8.dll,
version 5.3.2600.2180,
fault address 0x00036bfa.

Was idling at the side of the track and went to make dinner. When I returned I burped and then I noticed that LFS had crashed. I'm not sure if this is a Z20 issue but I'm fairly certain my burp was not responsible.

Quote from Wm. Peddle :Howdy Yall, How goes the battle? I am a newbie to the skinning world and have been reading everything I can find, to help me design my own skins for LFS. But I am also a victim of our currant recession and can't fork out very much gold for any new paint programs. The only reason I even have for such a program is LFS. I down loaded "paint.net" for free, but am wondering if there are any better programs out there that I can use with LFS. The trouble I am having with "paint.net" is that there does not seem to be a 3D rendering option. You know, where the skin is broken down into geometric shapes and such. Any advice you can lend would be greatly appreciated.

I think you are looking for a template or skin kit that is compatible with paint.net? I believe there is a plugin for that software which will allow you to use PSD files (templates already exist for PSD).

Quote from Greboth :While I can appreaciate people have chosen a name that they no longer like. I have to say it does say when your sign up that you will be stuck with the name so any faults with the names is your own.

I'm fairly sure though, that in the early days you were not warned about not being able to change your username.

I recall when I purchased S1 there was no warning at all.

Im sure if you got called a twat in a chippy you'd want to have a word with the manager? They can say what they want in there too, its their chippy, doesn't mean i/you can't complain.

Yes, that would seem to be the logical and rational course of action. I wonder why you haven't applied it to this situation, opting instead to attempt to drag as many others into your melodrama as you can.

Here's the manager's contact details btw.

Considering the way you are feeling about the treatment you received, a letter of complaint seems like the most logical course of action.

You are asking for someone else's private work to be uploaded anyway. The skin that Dan made for Guess clearly states that it is a private skin!

Inkscape has come a long way and shows great potential, but Corel Draw still eats it for breakfast.

I was surprised how much good development had occurred on Inkscape since I last tried it (maybe over a year ago). Worth checking out if you are one who can grasp the value of vector art, for sure.

Quote from lvlo :Yes, it works fine on your computer, but not when you're sharing file.

That image which you have import in SVG file exists only on YOUR computer. So I see white square there with message "Image not found". SVG file cannot include raster images INSIDE itself, cause in general it's just text XML file - only vector data there

Ok, sweet, I'll rip it out. I'm used to handling vector files that don't have issues with this sort of thing, although it could be shortcomings of the software in this case. Thanks for the feedback.

Give this new version a try.

p.s. I tried 4.7 (beta) earlier today, it's not as stable as it could be (though neither is 4.6 for that matter :P). Inkscape still has a long way to go before it can play with the big boys.

Quote from lvlo :Nice work mate! Exactly what I wanted to do for a while

Only one problem with that svg file - it cannot include raster images inside, so better to delete default skin at bottom.

UPD: I don't know about handle AI files with Inkscape, but I open ESP files without problems. So you can only try BTW, next version 0.47 will arrive soon.

The raster image seems to work fine in Inkscape.
Am I missing your point perhaps?

*4.6 does indeed handle AI files (v9 & v10) but instead I imported a WMF file and then converted it to SVG

It has been a while since I played with Inkscape. Can the current version import AI files? many problems can be solved quickly if this is possible.

Quote from Ian.H :The image in question is fscked and while not a trojan itself, contains things that an image shouldn't contain!

<!-- INICIO - PUBLICIDAD POP-UP UNDER -->
<IFRAME SRC="http://www.[redacted]/ar/popunder/p_submit.asp?site=[redacted].ar" width=1 height=1></IFRAME>
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
//<!--

setTimeout('self.focus();',i*30);
}
//-->
</SCRIPT>
<!-- FIN - PUBLICIDAD POP-UP UNDER -->

Not what I'd expect to see at the end of a JPG file

Not much of a surprise to see a LACNIC domain in use for malware however.

Regards,

Ian

Thanks Ian, I have removed the offending image as a precaution.

90% through my Spybot scan and we had a power outage, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Scanned the registry and no malicious entries there. Scanned my system32 folder and no probs there either.

**2am here, must go to bed.

Anyone with concerns should be cautious and run a proper scan, but it looks like a false alarm so far.

Thanks guys. No warning with AVG either, plus I searched my registry for the entry that this trojan is supposed to create and I didn't find it. Running a Spybot check now, then I'll reboot and check the registry again.

*the other reports on the Net that I found dated back to June and September. You'd think that Avira would have fixed this issue with their software by now. That's why I'm still being cautious.
BTW the trojan in question is a keylogger/password stealer, so it's worth taking the time to investigate this properly.

I did some hunting and found three other instances on the Net where people had reported the same warning after clicking on an image and they were all using Avira software. Seems like a false positive, but until other members can verify I can't be sure.

Quote from ACCAkut :my Avira Antivir found the trojan too, TR/Spy.Banker.vk.1. The warning came up when i opened both pics

Sure, but if that particular anti virus program is reporting a false positive then everyone who uses it will also think there is a trojan, when there may not be at all.

Please can some other members try scanning the images with a different program?

Quote from RS1T :
Also, in the thread above, some people posted that the original cars in LFS looked 'good'. LFS was started in the early '00s, so why do some of the cars look like they are from the 1980's (XRG, UF1, XFG), and the rest are drivel from the 90's (FXO, RB4 etc.). Also, it looks like some of the cars were drawn with rulers. For example, look above the side windows on the RB4, and the wheelarches. Even the curves were drawn with a ruler

Some of the cars "look like they are from the 1980's" because they are from that era.

As for straight edges in wheel arches etc, all 3D models are made up from triangles which form polygons. The more triangles (or polys) that a model has the greater the illusion of a curve. Original LFS cars were not extremely high-poly models, obviously to keep resource use down for lower-spec PCs. Recently several of the car models were updated, including more polys in certain areas like wheel arches. While very high poly models are no real trouble to make, many players would complain of low FPS etc. In most 3D games a compromise is made with modelling. Look at Counter-Strike as an example, the player models are very straight-edged ie: they have low polygon counts.

I opened then downloaded two two of the images and scanned them and got no report of a trojan. Could it be a particular anti-viral program that is reporting it as an infected file?

It seems strange that these images would contain any malicious content since they were uploaded as attachments several weeks ago and no probs have been reported until now. Can anyone confirm that an actual trojan exists or is it just a false positive?

I rarely have issues with this bug but others have and I have often pondered a solution. I wonder if it would be possible for the barriers in question to be recoded so that when a collision occurs the barrier reads it as a low speed collision instead of at the actual speed that the car collided with the barrier. If the barrier (and/or car/ or tyre) "thinks" the collision was a minor one perhaps the reaction wouldn't be so exaggerated? I have also pondered the same theory for car collisions where lag sometimes allows two cars to overlap which may cause a "flying car" event.

Just some thoughts.

Quote from ShUckErU :this z10 patch has been here for a long time... are the known bugs that hard to fix? i thought it might just take a week or so b4 the nxt patch woulda came out. apparently not. oh and ive got a request for u developers, can you stop the cars from flying wen hitting certain objects?

Stop spamming this thread. If you are not testing this patch and have no feedback related to testing this patch then don't post here. Like the rest of the world, the Devs like to take a break at this time of year (although Scawen has obviously found some time to work even through Christmas).
This is not an offical patch it is a test patch. If you don't like it - don't use it, wait for the offical patch instead.
If you have a request that is not related to this test patch, post it in the proper forum.
Thanks.

Quote from obsolum :I stick to my opinion that if it had been someone else who posted that vid with no mention at all of NFS, then a lot of people who now dismiss it as unrealistic would have been drooling all over it.

They would be drooling over it if the sound was a dynamic creation instead of a static recording of a sound. It isn't that sim enthusiasts don't want realistic sounds in LFS, they want sounds that give them feedback, not some pre-recorded sample that tells you nothing about how much throttle you are applying.

Quote from The Very End :I see that, but I think there are too much "accepted" to bash one single guy, like for exampel Lerts. And when moderators start joking with it too it's seems to "it's ok to bash Lerts, since he's mentally insane" attitute.

It goes allong with the rule lines we have about bashing cruise/drift servers and such.

But again, that is just my two cents

I can't recall a moderator calling him mentally insane, so I can't comment on that one. You seem to think he is, but of course you are an ordinary user and don't know any better.
