Quote from teppo.jr :u cant be kidding me :/ last years hockenheim qual was waaaaaay worse than that c*ap

It's not so much the amount of water as the painted road markings... specifically the ones painted over in black paint. Hard to see.

I like the idea of 'get on with it' but I can see why the FIA don't want a bunch of teams smashing up their cars and having to spend shit loads of money repairing them.

The main problem is the black painted lines on the racing line. Makes it a bit of a lottery. Also, for the team on a tighter budgets it's a nightmare to make enough spares.

When did Hamilton get a luck transplant? Even got some extra time to fix the car

Well if the McLaren is as shit as it appears then it's going to be a walk int he park for Vettel. The RBR looks glued to the track.

I recently learned how much f1 teams have invested.... and then lost trying to figure out tyre simulations. Millions of pounds and years of development, often canned. Scawan is taking on a mammoth task here, and it will take a long time. deal with it.

Hamilton failure was due to running off the track earlier in session, so not entirelly random.

If FP1/2 are a reasonably accurate measure of where the cars are you really have to question McLaren's decision to go for a new design concept, despite ending the year with the fastest car last year. RedBull potentially had hit the developmental ceiling with the RB8, but stuck with it and are probably leagues ahead of anyone.

Any focussing on Mercedes. hamilton, despite them being his reportred 3rd choice, may have lucked out big time haha. Though coming out of the box fast was something they did last year, but still ended up shit slow.

Quote from tristancliffe :I just never believed Senna on that score. It was a political answer, rather than the truth.

He also said karting was the purist form of motorsport - he didn't mean the racing or the dynamics or the closeness to the chassis, but it was a dig at the amount of politics in F1 at the time. Go-karterists seem to insist it was because karts are so amazing.

Well, karts are bloody amazing hence why a large percentage of F1 drivers, MotoGP riders, superbikers, GT drivers, rally drivers, motocrossers etc... have one (or more). In enough time you will realise this too and end up with one no doubt.

We you are right on wrong on Senna's quote about karting. He never actually said 'karting was the purist form of motorsport' (I mistakenly in the past thought he did). his quotes on karting in the Senna film were more about politics you are right there. However he did say karting was the 'most breathtaking sport in the world. more so than F1'. Take that as you want, he said it.

On Terry Fullerton - keep telling yourself that was political if it pleases you, but of all his opponents in the world, Fullerton (well accepted as an all time karting great) was someone Senna never really could get a grip on.

Quote from Rappa Z :http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/105876

Maybe a bluff, but surely if you are Ferrari you always aim for the win?

McLaren said they'd be happy with a points finish. Hamilton said he';d be happy with top 10.... it's same old pre-season blurb.

I see Tristan couldn't quite swallow the Senna quote about Fullerton (the only guy he never could quite beat making the quote as valid as it could be) and is still moaning about Hamilton, even pre-empting an excuse of how he could win in a Merc. Some things never change on here lol

Hamilton drove as good as anyone last year, and would have won the title had the Mclaren pit crew and reliability had not been so poor. 2008 wasn't a particularly good year despite it beign the championship year... 2009 was probably better having to drag round the mp4-24

Ya, I know I'm using their platform and at the same time bitching when they serve me ads which looks dumb I agree - there's too much screen space being used now with the Sponsored Stories imo

Yes, you are being dumb.

Ads in news feeds probably have a high click-through rate, so it's a no-brainer to have them there.

If you think it's too invasive go sign up for Bebo

Well Hamilton set that time with a few laps of fuel in, on face value it appears to be a 'decent' time. It's just testing, but Mercedes have had a decent winter.

Quote from vipex123 :Bianchi and Kovalainen both in talks with Marussia, and it's speculated since Kartakayans Indycar deal seems to have fallen through he could also be in with a shout of the drive - which would be a massive shame. I would have also suggested Kobayashi would have a shot at this drive if Kovalainen is but he seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth apart from the odd GT test.

Webber ends up 1.6s infront of Hamilton in testing, which I know I know it's only testing but surely on a damp track you would expect Hamilton to be a little closer to the front? Lotus looks very quick in race conditions, as does the Ferrari, both opting to do long runs for the majority of the day.

There was some rumour going around Twitter than Kovalainen has a drive for Saturday and that Razia is in some massive financial dispute with Marussia but nothing has been confirmed yet, complete silence from Razia, hasn't even been going to the circuits.

One lap time means nothing. On a damp/wet track Hamilton was pretty much fastest all morning. He also set that lap on a longer run than Webber.

But it wouldn't be surprised to see if RBR are THAT much quicker, but you can't read much into that headline lap time.

Bianchi in Marussia? The kid can't get a break.

Quote from Mustafur :Lowes gone Mclaren in Downhill mode now.
Mclaren really need to sort out there management(which imo is Dennis and his anal attitude to everything)it seems to strain everyone who comes in, and create lack of motivation or frustration with the team and from my memory it has started with Hakkinen, then Newey and Hamilton which all seem to have the same reason for leaving allthough Hakkinen retired.

Although they wouldn't be able to get him till next year there best bet would be to get James Key even if thats a bit of a gamble, unless they pull a miricle and get Rory Byrne.

Byrne is working with Ferrari, can't see him working for anyone else anyway.

Regarding McLaren, I think they'll be just fine. They've got a decent car.

Mercedes though, how many big guns do they need to buy?

Quote from JJ72 :yup, racing against people half your weight, in their prime of physical conditioning and reflexes, is indeed a bit silly.

Why? Racing is SILLY! Going round in circles is bleein' immature and stupid. Even more stupid is half the time you're racing guys who are vastly more wealthy than you are... that's JUST as pointless.

Quote from BlueFlame :Effectively all he's doing is racing against kids. I just find it a bit silly.

Fore (39), cesseti (37), thonon (26), abbasse (24), and ardigo (30) are kids? Probably got a higher average age than F1.

Quote from BlueFlame :Then explain why he keeps karting?

Real champions give it up long before they look stupid.

Real champions, in my view, never rest on their achievements, they continue to push what they think is humanly possible. Schumacher asks himself "can a 45 year old man compete with the professional karters?" and he then makes shit happen to see if he can do it. What happened in the past is irrelevant. That's a 'real' champion. Never scared to put their own reputation on the line to discover what can be achieved NOW

Sitting on past glories says to me you're a driver who feels you 'lucked' into the wins and are scared to have that reputation tarnished. that's what makes Schumacher different. Love him or love him no one else is doing what he's doing.

On a side note for Schumacher fans he is racing at the WSK Euro Series next weekend. Going to be tough for him to get a top 10. Be great to watch anyway.
